5 Anniversary Gift Idea Wedding Year Questions and Answers

Resolved Question: I need a really great gift for my boyfriend! 1 year anniversary!!?

Okaay, so I have a lot of holidays coming up with my boyfriend in the next few months. November: Boyfriend's 18th Birthday December: Christmas January: 1 year anniversary!! February: Valentine's Day For his birthday, I am getting him a hoodie and I am airbrushing it. He has requested it, so I decided that I'd surprise him with it for his birthday in November, because he can wear it through the winter when it's cold. For Christmas, I am getting him a cologne set of his favorite cologne, because I met him 4 days before Christmas and absolutely fell in love with his scent from the very beginning, so I thought it would be very apropos. For our 1 Year Anniversary!! I have no idea what to get him!! He told me that his gift to me was going to make me cry my eyes out, and I'm honestly thinking it's a Promise Ring (a pre-engagement ring for the younger group, basically symbolizing that, though we won't get married for 5 years, he's gonna stick with me til we get engaged engaged. Its more of a long-term commitment statement). I wear a ring my Dad got me years ago on my wedding finger, and he teases me about it, so I always tease back that I'll switch it to the other hand when I have something better to put there. Soooo.. I really think that's what it is. But what do I get him to compete with that?! Like really?! That is sooo huge!!! So that's one gift idea I need.... For Valentine's Day, I need another gift. Last year, he got me a diamond necklace, and had my parents bring me to a surprise dinner for the both of us alone; it was wonderful!! However, I realllyyy neeed something great for him! So, to sum it up: I need an absolutely amazing 1 Year anniversary present and Valentine's Day present. Any help would be amazing! He's seventeen and very into computers, not very outgoing, but he is a lot of fun and my best friend. more

I want to get her something nice, something special. I'm not going to upgrade on her wedding ring until 10 years, but I was thinking of getting her another ring. But with a Garnet stone, since that's what her birthstone is. But I want something very nice. i'm talking 2,000 limit. i was also thinking about getting her a nice diamond necklace. Whatever gift i get her i will be giving it to her in Vegas, since that's where we'll celebrate. Any ideas would be most appreciated, more

Resolved Question: 5th Anniversary gift for my WONDERFUL wife?

Today is my our 5th wedding anniversary! Traditionally the 5th anniversary is symbolized by wood, so what can I get here, made of wood of course, that would be a nice gift, but also on a budget. We already agreed that the nice restaurant we are going to is our gift to each-other, since it is so expensive ($30 a head), and we go to it always on our anniversary, but I also want to get her the traditional gift. This past week, her cat of 10 years just died, and she was really sad about it. Maybe a small wooden cat? Combining our anniversary with a memory keepsake of her cat? She was close to her cat, but I don't know...your ideas?OK...Answer 1 is the most immature thing I have ever read on the internet. Wow, and from a "Top Contributor"...I guess that title means nothing. more

Resolved Question: My teenage son won't take responsibility for anything please help.?

i am at a loss to what to do here. My 13 year old son is out of control and I don't know what to do anymore. I have tried everything i know, from star charts to grounding...From relearning my way of parenting (thinking it was me and not him) to down right being a big meanie...NOTHING and I mean nothing works. This has been getting steadily worse for 4 years now and I am at my ropes end. He has only 2 chores our schedule is as such come home do homework until 4:30 or 5 pm then he may hang out with his friends or play games..After dinner he has to do the dishes (while I sweep and do counters the husband scrapes plates and the two small ones wash the table and chairs) and in the morning he has to feed HIS horse. He feeds his horse once a day that is all he does if he does do dishes he only does half (we have a dishwasher) doesn't clean his room is acting out at school (talking) he won't pay attention when told to do something in fact he ignores us. Has been stealing treats (we keep them seperate in our room since last year when he started taking whole packages and eating them) if I say no to soda he takes it to school instead. He sneaks out of his room when he is grounded... The horse is being sold next week and I have taken away almost everything he has with a chance of earning the items (not the horse I can't take care of her by myself) back. He talks nasty at me calls me dude and even called a girl a wh*re in front of me he was sent to his room for that and had to write 100 sentences about respecting women.. This is but a tip of what I deal with everyday...Today is my wedding anniversary and I asked for help cleaning the kitchen so we could cook dinner he refused and told me that my gift was on the way when he gets around to doing it...i said all I wanted was help no gifts and he said it's your loss. He treats his friends really bad, ignores them and yells at them, his friends have actually helped me before because they feel bad for the way he treats me, they have even told him that the way he treats me is bad...He hits his little brothers when i am not looking and said he was playing...etc like i said I could go on and on. ANything any ideas at all... I don't know what to do more

Resolved Question: Where to buy the candles for the candle poem/basket given as a wedding gift?

I found the poem on here a few weeks ago and was very excited since I have a bridal shower this month and wanted to give this to my cousin as her gift. I found an answer that also gave a website of where to buy the candles as a set, instead of running around searching for the right colors and sizes. Below is the poem I want to use. I have seen a second poem that has the same idea but I dont like it as much and want to stick with this one. So if anyone knows where to buy these at in a set, I would greatly appreciate it! A Basket of Candles For [insert Bride's name] A basket of candles that come in a pair In all different colors, for you two to share The white ones burn first They are wrapped in white lace To celebrate your first married night In your new chosen place. The green pair is taller, and also much thinner Burn with the first company, you have over for dinner. The dark blue candles are for after your first fight Use them to burn while making up all night. Pink candles set the mood and pave the way For your first married Valentine’s Day. Now, when your first year of marriage is through The cream anniversary pair, will light for you two. Red candles aflame, both your futures are bright Celebrate promotions you’ve worked toward with all of your might. By this time we hope, maybe, just maybe You can light the purple ones, on the birth of your baby. And just when you thought you’d put these away Take the light blue ones out-for your fifth anniversary day. Now just one more pair left - for the big 2 5 The anniversary pair that will keep your love alive. Congratulations [insert Bride and Groom's names] On the start of your forever May the two of you always be happy together And burn these candles Just the way we said But please don’t forget-blow them out before bed! more

Resolved Question: Ideas for 5th wedding anniversary?

I came up with an off the wall theme for our anniversary this year (my turn to plan) but I'm having trouble with anything past that. I've heard divorce are highest before the 5th year of marriage because the endorphins that make you think you're in love wear off by year 5. So . . . my theme is "The Endorphins are gone, it must be love." I don't even care if it's true. I thought it was a funny theme when it popped into my head and I'm sticking to it, even if there are numerous studies that prove it wrong. (I deliberately didn't look it up.) Does anyone have any ideas for gifts or activities, etc. along these lines? more

Resolved Question: How to plan a surprise 25th wedding anniversary party in a week?

I have already posted this in Food and Entertainment, but I think it may get more answers here. Sorry it's so long, but I thought the more details the better. Originally we offered my fiance's parents an all inclusive trip to the Bahama's, and they declined. I was a little taken aback, but have been searching for the perfect gift for about a month. Their daughter, Vanessa, decided that we should throw them a party. The problem is she decided this on Thursday night, and wants to have the party next Saturday. I understand her reasoning, the two have a weekend off together about every three months, so it would be hard to make it a surprise without having it sometime in June. So, the plan is we decorate their basement while they are out to dinner and a movie, and serve snacks and such to the guests when they arrive. So, I'm in need of some decorations that don't require more than and hour to decorate at least the basement which is about 1200 square feet. Note - They have absolutely no family photo's from over 5 years ago due to a fire. I also need some recipes for awesome appetizers that will please everyone. I can't use any type of seafood, because his mother won't eat it or anything it touches. She claims she is allergic, but her mother says she isn't. I have a recipe for a cake that I'm planning on making, but any decorative ideas for it would be helpful. Even the couple is unsure how their wedding cake looked, so I can't take that route. Also, if anyone knows of a website that will be able to ship cute 25th anniversary decorations to me, in Michigan, in less than 5 days, that would be great. I'm very stressed out about this. I searched for some decorations today, but wasn't able to find any. I thought that I would have better luck, but I couldn't even find silver/gray plates or napkins. :( l know I can't expect a miracle, but I still want to make it special for them. Note - Using the list that his mother gave me for the wedding, and my a little help from Vanessa I have already called about 45 people, 32 of which said they will definitely come, 3 maybe's, and I have 11 more phone numbers to call tomorrow. Estimated guest count is 65 His family is very close, and everyone goes to everything. If I didn't invite all of them than undoubtedly I would offend them all. You should see their thanksgiving. We have a budget of $900. However, I ordered the liquor and beer today, so I only have $625 left. more

Resolved Question: Wedding day gift for my wife...need your opinion?

I just thought of this gift idea to give my wife to be as the wedding gift. Get 7 bottles of wine/ champagne and make a custom label for each bottle, one for each of the major milestone anniversaries 1,5,10,25, 30, 40, 50. I thought it would be cool to have bottles with the year we are married on them. it will be lots of fun opening bottles that have been around as long as our marriage! Is this a cool idea or is it just super lame? Should i get a variety of wine/champagnes or just stick with 7 bottle of her favorite? thanks in advance for your opinion :-) more

Resolved Question: 5-year wedding anniversary?

My 5-year wedding anniversary is coming up. What are some good ideas on what we could do and a gift that I could give my husband. Thanks!! more

Resolved Question: Can I please get a man's opinion please?

I ask for a man's opinion because I know female's are more likely to agree with me on this idea. My one-year wedding anniversary is coming up and I wanted to get my husband a meaningful gift. He is not a jewelry type of guy and is very simple so I can't think of anything good enough to spend my money on him that he would really appreciate. We're the type that takes vacations for gifts for eachother because we find those more meaningful. So we are planning a weekend in Chicago and are going to be tourists for 2 days..eat some good food...etc. But as it is our first anniversary...I do want to get him something. We went on our honeymoon to Kauai Hawaii. While we were there we snorkeled constantly at as many beaches that we could. One day at Ke'e beach we snorkeled really far out right past the inner reef (by ourselves...this was not guided)...and before we knew it we were surrounded by 5-6 endangered green sea turtles that were feeding on the reef. Some were literally 1 foot away from us. It is Hawaii state law I believe that if you even get caught touching a turtle it is a $100,000.00 fine. Anyway, it was the thing we remember most about our trip...probably one of the most amazing things we ever saw...swimming with turtles in the wild. Anyway...I found that you can actually adopt a turtle and get a certificate...photo...and means to track them if you adopt one with a satellite tracking device. I don't think of it like adopting a star...because what does your money really help there. But with this I know the money is going to that particular cause because I'd pay directly to the wildlife company. Do you think this is gay or would be stupid in his eyes? He's a pretty sentimental guy...he keeps little notes I leave him and everything...what do you think. Should I keep looking? more

Resolved Question: ideas please for a gift for my husband on our 5th wedding anniversary. Something which can be memorable & last?

It doesnt have to be anything to do with what is the "traditional" gifts for a 5th year. He smokes, he drinks whisky, he has a pierced ear. I did think about a really nice earing but im not sure that could ever become sentimental or memorable in any way.I love the photo collage idea, just not as a jigsaw tho. Thanks that is something i am gonna look into. more

Resolved Question: I want remarry my husband!?

About 3 years ago my husband and I eloped in Vegas. No one was there except us and I didnt tell most of my family members until about 2 years ago. In 2 years we will be celebrating our 5 year anniversary and I want to remarry my husband all over again. Of course this will be a renewal of vows but I want a real wedding with all the fixin's. I don't want the gifts but I want my family to be there to see all of this happen. What do you think? Any ideas of where I should begin? Thank you. more

Resolved Question: What is a good accessory to compliment a bottle of wine as a wedding gift?

A really close relative is getting married in one month, and I have most of the gift put together. I bought a wine chest to hold 6 bottles of wine. http://www.winestuff.com/cgi-bin/sh000013.pl?REFPAGE=http%3a%2f%2fwww%2ewinestuff%2ecom%2facatalog%2f&WD=chest%20treasure&PN=Six_Bottle_Treasure_Island_Travel_Case%2ehtml%23aW600#aW600 And on each bottle I am making a tag, one for their 1st year anniversary, one for 2nd year ann. one for 5th, one for 10th, and one for first child (+1). However the chest holds 6 bottles and I only have 5. Should I add another bottle and include another tag? If so, what? Or, does anyone have any ideas of what could fill that last spot? It measures about 4 inches by 4 inches. The couple is planning on having children. We have known them for 23+ years (the groom anyway). He was raised with my husband. If for any reason they were unable to get pregnant, they would either (1) adopt or (2) get another dog, which if that's the case, they can use it then? I could just simply put "+1 Addition to the family"? more

Resolved Question: 5th Yr Wedding Anniversary gift ideas please?

I know on the 5th year, it's something "wood". Do you have any ideas on what I can do for my husband, or what kind of gift that I can get him? Our Anniversary is on Saturday, and I need ideas for a gift asap. I need to go shopping today. :-) Thank you! This is the first year that I waited until the last minute. I'm usually two weeks early with gifts. However, my hubby is the one always the day of, or a day before with trying to find gifts. I'm the guilty one this year. LOL I'm sure I will find something of wood, that will still represent that I understand my man. :-) Plus, not to mention we have a four year old, so a night out on the town is out of the question unless we can find something that the whole family can do. more

Resolved Question: Star me if you think any of these are funny? :D?

0 to 200 in 6 seconds Bob was in trouble. He forgot his wedding anniversary. His wife was really pissed. She told him "Tomorrow morning, I expect to find a gift in the driveway that goes from 0 to 200 in 6 seconds AND IT BETTER BE THERE !!" The next morning he got up early and left for work. When his wife woke up, she looked out the window and sure enough there was a box gift-wrapped in the middle of the driveway. Confused, the wife put on her robe and ran out to the driveway, brought the box back in the house. She opened it and found a brand new bathroom scale. Bob has been missing since Friday. GENEROUS LAWYER A local United Way office realized that the organization had never received a donation from the town's most successful lawyer. The person in charge of contributions called him to persuade him to contribute. "Our research shows that out of a yearly income of at least $500,000, you give not a penny to charity. Wouldn't you like to give back to the community in some way?" The lawyer mulled this over for a moment and replied, "First, did your research also show that my mother is dying after a long illness, and has medical bills that are several times her annual income?" Embarrassed, the United Way rep mumbled, "Um ... no." The lawyer interrupts, "or that my brother, a disabled veteran, is blind and confined to a wheelchair?" The stricken United Way rep began to stammer out an apology, but was interrupted again. "or that my sister's husband died in a traffic accident," the lawyer's voice rising in indignation, "leaving her penniless with three children?!" The humiliated United Way rep, completely beaten, said simply, "I had no idea..." On a roll, the lawyer cut him off once again, "So if I don't give any money to them, why should I give any to you?" THE PRISONER The bride tells her husband, "Honey, you know I'm a virgin and I don't know anything about sex. Can you explain it to me first?" "OK, Sweetheart. Putting it simply, we will call your private place 'the prison' and call my private thing 'the prisoner'. So what we do is: put the prisoner in the prison. And then they made love for the first time. Afterwards, the guy is lying face up on the bed, smiling with satisfaction. Nudging him, his bride giggles, "Honey the prisoner seems to have escaped." Turning on his side, he smiles. "Then we will have to re-imprison him." After the second time they spent, the guy reaches for his cigarettes but the girl, thoroughly enjoying the new experience of making love, gives him a suggestive smile, "Honey, the prisoner is out again!" The man rises to the occasion, but with the unsteady legs of a recently born foal. Afterwards, he lays back on the bed, totally exhausted. She nudges him and says, "Honey, the prisoner escaped again." Limply turning his head, He YELLS at her, "Hey, its not a life sentence, OKAY! 10 HUSBANDS,STILL A VIRGIN A lawyer married a woman who had previously divorced ten husbands. On their wedding night, she told her new husband, "Please be gentle, I'm still a virgin." "What?" said the puzzled groom. "How can that be if you've been married ten times?" "Well, Husband #1 was a sales representative: he kept telling me how great it was going to be. Husband #2 was in software services: he was never really sure how it was supposed to function, but he said he'd look into it and get back to me. Husband #3 was from field services: he said everything checked out diagnostically but he just couldn't get the system up. Husband #4 was in telemarketing: even though he knew he had the order, he didn't know when he would be able to deliver. Husband #5 was an engineer: he understood the basic process but wanted three years to research, implement, and design a new state-of-the-art method. Husband #6 was from finance and administration: he thought he knew how, but he wasn't sure whether it was his job or not. Husband #7 was in marketing: although he had a nice product, he was never sure how to position it. Husband #8 was a psychologist: all he ever did was talk about it. Husband #9 was a gynecologist: all he did was look at it. Husband #10 was a stamp collector: all he ever did was... God! I miss him! But now that I've married you, I'm really excited!" "Good," said the new husband, "but, why?" "You're a lawyer. This time I know I'm gonna get screwed!" IMPOSSIBLE TO PLEASE A group of girlfriends is on vacation when they see a 5-story hotel with a sign that reads: "For Women Only." Since they are without their boyfriends and husbands, they decide to go in. The bouncer, a very attractive guy, explains to them how it works. "We have 5 floors. Go up floor by floor, and once you find what you are looking for, you can stay there. It's easy to decide since each floor has a sign telling you what's inside." So they start going up and on the first floor the sign reads: "All the men on this floor are short and plain." The friends laugOh,I just realised, sorry, but it didn't fit all of them in, lets see f i can finish the last one in now... The friends laugh and without hesitation move on to the next floor. The sign on the second floor reads: "All the men here are short and handsome." Still, this isn't good enough, so the friends continue on up. They reach the third floor and the sign reads: "All the men here are tall and plain." They still want to do better, and so, knowing there are still two floors left, they continued on up. On the fourth floor, the sign is perfect: "All the men here are tall and handsome." The women get all excited and are going in when they realize that there is still one floor left. Wondering what they are missing, they head on up to the fifth floor. There they find a sign that reads: "There are no men here. This floor was built only to prove that there is no way to please a woman." more

Resolved Question: What to give my wife for our 5th wedding annniversary?

Our 5th wedding anniversary is coming up, and the past 4 years I've given my wife a card (except for one year, I didn't make it to the store - oops - can we say "dog house"). Anyways, she always seems dissapointed, so I want to do something beyond the card thing I guess for our 5th. I read that the "traditional" gift is wood or silverware - well, we have no reason to have silverware, and we already have clocks and don't have any room for more furniture and she hates knick knacks because she's kinda one of those neat freaks who hates clutter and I guess knick knacks = clutter in her book, and she's not too crazy about going out to eat because she's a fitness guru. Anyways, any suggestions? I am absolutely dreading this - it just isn't my thing - not to sound like a jerk, but a card feels like a huge leap some years.... any ideas? Also, we have 2 kids and no one who would be willing to watch them for more than an hour or two, so any extended absense wouldn't work. Thanks. :) more

Resolved Question: Tattoos to celebrate our 5 year wedding anniversary?

I was thinking of using the modern 5 year anniversary gift idea. SILVERWARE I could get a fork and he could get a knife or spoon. (or vice versa) I think it is a really fun and cute idea. I also thought of traditional gift wood. We could get hearts or something that look like wood. Any input "wood" be appreciated. :)I understand that most people are going to be like ahhhh its like getting his name tattooed on you. I have his zodiac sign tattooed on my breast plate above my heart. I don't believe in tattoo removal as each tattoo you decide to get reminds you of who you are and people that have helped you grow as a person. I have 10 tattoos so I'm not a noob to the tattoo culture.I want something unique to represent this. I mean how many people do you know have a fork to represent the love they share with someone? Thanks again for any ideas. more

Resolved Question: 50th Wedding Anniversary Gift Ideas?

Things to keep in mind --my parents are 70 years old --a photo would be nice, but we are all at different locations --the budget is $1,000+ --they wouldn't want a cruise --they like quaint, off-the-beaten path kind of places to visit --money (in any form) isn't unique or thoughtful enough, IMO Thanks for your ideas! more

Resolved Question: Is it a good idea to have a BIG wedding on my 5 year wedding anniversary?

My husband and I got married at the court house and invited NONE of our family almost 5 years ago. Now we are thinking about having a big wedding and inviting everyone! Kind of a re-commitment wedding. What kind of things will people say about that. Should we do it, or will everyone think that we just want their gifts, should I say no gifts please. I really just want to say our vows in front of our family. We have two kids now, and a wonderful marriage, is it wrong that I want to celebrate that with a BIG wedding? We definately dont need gifts. We have everything we need for our house. I guess it would always be nice though. We have been saving money for the wedding so money isnt the issue. We got married so fast because he was leaving for Iraq at the time. more

My husband and I have been married 2 years. We got married on our 2 year dating anniversary, but didnt get to have a "real" wedding because during our engagement I got pregnant. We couldnt justify blowing money on a big ceremony with a baby on the way. So we just did a little bitty thing. We are considering doing a vow-renewal ceremony on our 5 year anniversary. We feel like we missed out on the fun memories and great photos. Not to mention the gifts! We didnt get ANYTHING when we got married, which is kinda unfair. Just because we didnt throw a big wedding, we didnt deserve wedding gifts? What the heck? Anyhow, we would love a chance to celebrate our relationship with our friends and family in the way we never got to. Does anyone know how vow renewal ceremonies work? Any websites? What the heck do you put on the invites? What do you wear? What do you do? Any ideas, resources, or personal experiences are great! more

Resolved Question: 5-year anniversary gifts? What to give the guy who "has it all?"?

My hubby and I are only a week and a half away from celebrating our 5-year wedding anniversary. I am absolutely stumped on what to give him! He has so many of the goodies that he already wants that I'm not sure what to do. I'm also 37 and a half weeks pregnant so an "outing" gift like a mini-vacation or a great night out on the town isn't really very do-able at this point. I was thinking of something related to his "new dad" status would be fun, but I still want to keep it romantic. Any ideas? Thanks in advance! more

Resolved Question: Need a 5th wedding anniversary gift under $800?

I am celebrating my 5th wedding anniversary on the 24th and my husband already upgraded my wedding ring to 1 carat ($1600). He says he doesn't want a new wedding band but his band looks so aweful next to my new ring. We were on a small budget 5 years ago. I have $800 I want to give him a new diamond band engraved any ideas where to go for that budget? Or anything else. he would be so angry if i spent more than that on a ring for him. I know its not much but I am hoping he will be ok with an upgrade like that. more
