Resolved Question: Poll: how ghetto is your school ?
I live in Jacksonville, fl so yes mine is very ghetto lol. its 59% black (i'm half black so no i'm not racist). but its deff not the worst in the city lol. out of the 21 (public) high schools its probably 13-15 . how ghetto is your school? moreResolved Question: Gainesville, Jacksonville, Orlando, or St Petersburg?
I have the opportunity to go to school in these 4 cities. Which should I go to and why? moreVoting Question: High School GPA and College?
Hey Guys, I'm currently a Sophomore at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts in Jacksonville and looking to raise my 2.5 GPA to a 3.0 sometime in Junior Year. My freshman year wasn't so hot, I had a lot of personal issues with my family going on, and was moving alot. My grades on average were B's C's and second semester I earned D's and F's. So far this year though, I have been making A's and B's, with the exception of one C in math second quarter. I've been pushing myself to really work hard, and I finished off third quarter with 5 A's and 3 B's. I'm hoping to get all A's soon, and raise my GPA. I talked to my guidance counselor as well and she was able to enroll me in FLVS (Florida Virtual School) to retake my Algebra 1 Course I received a D in. My college of interest is Univeristy of Central Florida, I'm aware it's not super prestigious, but the competition is really high and that's why I'm doing as much as I can to earn better grades. For my Junior Year I'm taking one AP and all Honors Classes as well and doing my best to prepare for the SAT's and ACT's next Spring. And I'm also going to volunteer at the local theatre and do community service for the City Rescue Mission downtown. So with all this being said, would I have a chance at UCF or any other University for that matter? I'm aware their admissions for upcoming freshman are usually supposed to be higher than a 3.0 but I'm just wondering. Community College at FSCJ wouldn't be so bad but I'm trying to just get into a 4 Year College, UNF is in the area but I'm not so sure about that college either. moreResolved Question: Raising my High School GPA? I recently moved from a small town in Tennessee to Jacksonville Florida. I didn't want to move but my dad moved here and my mom and little sister is moving here also next week. The rest of my family also lives here and my mom wants me to be closer to them. I moved down here early because i didnt want to put it off any longer and am staying with my dad. I am 18 and pregnant (30 weeks) with my first baby. The dad(my boyfriend) just got a new job in Tennessee and is doing well. He is scared of coming down to the big city and is scared he can't financially make it without a job or anything. So he is still in Tennessee. My dads apartment is extremely nice And has a pool and a lot nicer than my old house. But it is so different here! The people are rude in stores and there is so much crime I'm scared at night...there are so many robberies and shootings and I'm scared to drive because of the busy roads or go anywhere by myself :( the prices are also sooo expensive. I call my mom every night crying and wanting to go back home. I love it here my family that is already here couldn't be more supportive and they are making sure I've got everything i need but I'm just homesick and I really miss my boyfriend and friends. :( I also miss feeling safe. I want to move back but already commuted to my mom that I would move and she could take care of the baby while I go to school. But its so hard being here and I can't stop crying :( I'm also scared the school my sister will be going to will be high crime. Has anyone gone through this situation and how did you cope or adjust? Any advice would really be appreciated. Thanks! moreResolved Question: I am 15 and moving from Montgomery, AL to Florida. So here is the question. where in Florida should i move?
I am from Miami, FL and want to live in a city that is somewhat alike. i was thinking Jacksonville or Tampa. i am not sure. i want to get into culinary arts one day. i know Jacksonville has a school with a culinary academy, but i don't know if there are any high schools with a culinary academy in Tampa. if there are any cities you know about with a culinary academy that has the same personality as Miami let me know. i DON'T want to live in the panhandle so anywhere but there. Thanks alot for your help. moreResolved Question: Do NFL fans have a stronger liking for teams not in their teams conference?

So my husband and I are contemplating moving to Florida next year and we'd like to go down and check out some areas some time in the near future. However, we need a house that is going to have a bit of land with it and I'm really not sure where to start in the planning process. I raise dogs, so we need at least 2+ acres and my husband would like something he could develop a little bit (putting up storage for his business, etc.) We've been contemplating the Jacksonville area and the Orlando area, but I'm open for nearly any suggestions. We do have two kids, so I'd like a decent area with good schools if possible. I'd also rather not be too far off from a city or developed suburb, but still far enough away to get more affordable land/housing and be able to escape the HOA regulations that seem to dominate much of the suburbs in Florida. Specific names of more rural areas surrounding cities would be helpful, as the main point of this question is to get a better understanding of the rural communities there. moreResolved Question: if you wanted to contact someone about fixing a park, who would it be?

I heard that episcopal high school in Jacksonville is a good school, is it? How about jobs? And on the fun side, what's there to visit? My sister is starting 9th grade next school year. I'm graduating this year but I'm taking a year off before I go to college. I'm probably going to the UF, not sure yet. Tell me a bit about Jacksonville please? It's still hot there like all the time like Miami? moreResolved Question: what are your favorite cities in florida?
I'm moving there soon for school, and I keep getting torn between places. I've thought about Jacksonville and Tampa mostly, but I keep reading different things about them. My friend recently went to Jacksonville and loved it, but from what I've read it's mostly older people and more quiet than other cities in Florida. I'm young, so i wanted a place with people my age and a good nightlife. I've also heard good things about Tampa, but I also went on to read it's got it's fair share of a large older population. Anyone with personal experiences about good places to live in Florida, I'd love to hear your opinion! i'm not just limited to these two cities, I've also heard a little about Orlando too, so any cities welcome. Thank you! moreResolved Question: Thinking of relocating to Florida?

Hello, I am currently an f1 student in the United States. I'm in the 12th grade, attending a high school in Florida. When I first came into the United States, I came to Oklahoma where I received my I-20. I then transferred to the city of Jacksonville, Florida, to the high school which I now currently attend. The high school is in the process of becoming sevis certified so that they can give me a renewed I-20. However, this school is incredibly slow at things which they don't have much knowledge about, and I'm afraid that I won't receive my I-20 before college starts. I have the grades to get into FSCJ, a community college in Jacksonville that accepts international students. However they require an active I-20. Is there any other forms that they can accept, or the government can accept to show that I have been studying at my current school for 2 years? I have my transcripts. all of my paperwork. an f-1 visa, (expired, so I'm not planning on going back to my country any time soon) I think I recall reading something online about "My school isn't sevis certified," however I don't know what the form was. School gets out in 4-5 months, and obviously I HAVE to be attending college full time afterwards, so this question is very important to me. If anyone could help, I'd be very grateful. moreResolved Question: what city's police require only diploma ?

I have read a lot of negative things about Jacksonville. I know that with every major city it has bad parts but people are saying that this city's crime is insane! I really need an UNBIASED review! I was wondering if someone could break the city down and tell me where the best overall place would be to relocate too. When I say best, i'm talking as far as low crime, family oriented, good schools, not too far away from the energy corridor but between 20-30 mins of a drive (the driving I'm not too worried about). My son is only 15 months right now, but I want him to be able to attend a good school when the time comes. My max price is around the $450000 mark. Ok, to cut to the chase, I had an extremely physically abusive "father" while growing up, was moved around no less than THREE times while growing up. Also, I served in the military for five years and was stationed in the absolute ARMPIT of the state of NC in the eastern NC town of Jacksonville, NC. I'm from western NC so I CAN say that. Anyway, I didn't get to date while in high school due to the divorce of my parents and all of the other mental hell that I was going thru. I also didn't get to date while on active duty because all of the women in that town were already married and it didn't help matters that Marines are considered to be trouble makers and are generally disliked in eastern NC (google the article about Marines not being allowed in Wilmington, NC bars). So, now I live in CO's second largest city, am FINALLY in college, and am doing what I SHOULD have done SEVERAL years ago instead of being a dumbazz and joining the Marine Corps. I feel like an absolute FREAK and a disgrace to the male gender because of my age (early 30s) when coupled with the fact that I have not even once had a serious relationship yet and have been ( I am speculating here) rejected by women my entire life. CO's second largest city is mostly military so maybe that is why I haven't been able to find anyone here. Also, I suppose that the women at my college find me to be too "old" now and that is why they don't want to have anything to do with me. This is the most painful thing that I have had to endure in my entire life! I had dreams and goals upon getting out of the Marines. One of those goals was to be able to find a never married/childless lady such as myself and eventually marry her. I am truly hurt and crushed at this stage in my life because I know that the only women my age (late 20s/early 30s) are divorced/single mothers. I am NOT saying that single moms don't deserve to find a good man which will love them. I am only saying that I think that it isn't fair that I should only have single mothers to choose from simply because I was dealt a shit*y deck in life and didn't get to marry my high school and/or college sweetheart like everyone else does. moreResolved Question: How do I get a good short distance flight?

My boyfriend and I were thinking about moving downtown due to school and work and the "city life" The Reserve at St. Nicholas Apartments seem to look decent online, but does anyone know if they are safe/nice/etc? Or is it in the heart of the ghetto/bad area? Basically, would we have to watch our backs at all times, or is it pretty excluded from all the crime/commotion? Also, if anyone knows of any apartments downtown that are nice, or safer, feel free to tell me! Thanks. moreResolved Question: Have you ever had this situation with In-laws?
Sorry so long but please help. Well i recently got engaged to a really nice boy we have been dating for about two years. We literally spend every free minute together. I am soon moving in with him, he is almost 20 but because of the economic problems he lives at his house. He has a stable job and etc. Now his parents. They are really nice people who mean well...but....I come from a very different family. In my house i can easily go a week without seeing my household family for more than 20 minutes. I get my own space and I enjoy it. Well at his house it is completly different. I feel comftorable there for the most part but every one wants to know EVERYTHING I do. If i pick up a pen they want to know what i'm going to write, if i don't come to dinner as soon as it is placed down they find it rude i guess, if i go into our room everyone thinks i am either upset or mad , when i am not but i like my space. If we hangout in our room instead of with them they get insulted. If we sleep in we are lazy. They ask questions, some of i don't even know like about my oldest sister facebook status or something. They get upset if i don't constently hug them. And they baby us way too much. In two years my fiannce and I are going to take a big step in our relationship. We are going to move 5 hours away to Jacksonville Florida to continue our last bit of college. Now we choose that because everyone lives here, in this tiny town. I've lived here for my entire life and he about 10 years. The biggest store is our local walmart. On top of that everyone lives here. My very large family. My grandparents grew up here, my aunts and uncles live here, My grandparents know the grandparents of the kids i went to school with, everyone in my family got married at the local church. As creepy as it sounds ...there is always someone watching you. And we want to get away from this. We didn't want to go too far , like 15 hours away or anything, but we wanted our distance, our freedom, When we move to J.Ville we are going to rent a nice simple apartment with two close friends that we can trust. There are multiple beaches, there is life shopping malls. Everything. And we get to finally grow up in a sense. There is just one problem. My in-laws want to move with us. And they are nice, but they said themselves they hate big cities. J.ville is the 13 largest city in the US. They like the quitness of their one redlighted town. So they are coming with us to basically be with us. But there's the problem. We are moving down to get our space, we don't party or drink, but we want to go explore the beaches and live without the constant visits and questions from family. And my future in-laws are very sensative. I didn't go visit his mom before my senior prom and it turned it to a big fight. And he joins their side a lot, all though he doesn't admit it. They are going to expect us to visit daily, know about all we do, they will get insulted if we don't invite them anywhere. I am really upset about this. I love my fiance, but i want to be married to him, not to him and his dad and mom. moreResolved Question: tattoo zoning in texas?

Ok, so I'm one of the old men on my campus who is considered what they now call a "student veteran". I am truly envious of the people who were able to go to college straight out of high school. Why? Because I missed out on being able to be around and/or MEET WOMEN because I was once a stupid 18 year old and joined the Marine Corps. There are ZERO single women at Camp Lejeune / Jacksonville, NC and that is a FACT. Any woman who says that she is single in Jacksonville, NC is most likely a MARRIED Marine wife who's trying to cheat on her husband who's been deployed. Anyway, all b*tching and whining aside, there really is a social disconnect that I and MOST other student veterans experience on our respective campuses on a daily basis. I'm not kidding folks, I encourage you to simply google "student veterans" and you will see myriad articles talking about this very problem that I have explained here and you'll see that I'm not saying this simply to b*tch, moan, and complain. I'm not anti-military at all. I just simply wish that I would have FIRST gone to college so that I could have had the same opportunities that most people get to have in college such as being able to meet single women, date, and meeting new people in general. Nobody wants to have anything to do with me at my campus because I look older than everybody else. Not only that, but I have heard other veterans talking in my classes and they say that they are already married with kids. Oh well, I guess that I shouldn't have been stupid and should have joined the Air Force which actually has DECENT duty stationsg and (gasp!) attractive women! BTW, most bars in the surrounding cities of Camp Lejeune such as Greenville or Wilmington, NC won't even let Marines into their bars. With that said, how could I have dated while in the Marine Corps with this being true? MATURE responses ONLY please! moreResolved Question: Question for the women out there please?
Ok, so I'm convinced that MOST women who are on their FIRST marriage either marry their high school sweetheart OR they meet a guy in college. From what I have observed by living here in Colorado Springs, Colorado, is the fact that most women here in this town of roughly 400,000 people do in fact marry their high school sweetheart. In my opinion, this is why there are SO MANY single moms here in Colorado Springs is because Colorado Springs women marry their high school sweethearts and/or marry waaaaayyyy too early, subsequently end up divorced, and won't give anyone who's not originally from here the time of day, but that's a different story and topic altogether. Seriously, I have never lived anywhere that is conducive to meeting single women. Contrary to popular belief, there are ZERO single women in the Marine Corps town of Jacksonville, NC / Camp Lejeune. Moreover, again contrary to popular belief that most Americans support the U.S. Marines, Marines are in fact disliked if not hated in the towns surrounding Jacksonville / Camp Lejeune such as Wilmington, NC. I mention this because it is the very thing that kept me from dating from age 18 to 23. After I got out of the Marine Corps, I moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado for a manufacturing job and was subsequently laid off. Although most of you will probably think that I am just making excuses for myself and/or feeling sorry for myself, I can assure you that what I am saying here about these two towns is in fact the SAD truth! Colorado Springs, Colorado is an EXTREMELY cliquish town in which dating for men is out of the question unless you were raised here and/or at least went to high school here. The reason for this is because Colorado Springs, Colorado is predominately a military town which has no less than FIVE military bases. Since I am 30 years old and have never even so much as dated before, I do in fact realize that time has passed me by and it is too late for me to become a "normal" straight male who dates and eventually marries. At this age, I have given up on women altogether because the only women out there that are close to my age are single moms. In short, I am curious how many of you women grew up in the SAME city your entire lives and your first marriage involved marrying your high school sweetheart OR how many of you women out there ended up marrying a guy that you met in college at the age of 21 or 22. moreResolved Question: Ladies, do you think that my situation is unique?
Ok, so I will admit that, due to a stupid mistake that I made when I was 18, that I have ruined my chances of ever dating, getting married, and having a family. Specifically, I let my physically abusive father talk me into joining the Marine Corps which did nothing but put me behind in life. Little did I know that there were no single women to date at Camp Lejeune / Jacksonville, NC and little did I know that Marines are extremely unwelcome in towns such as Wilmington, NC due to some of the idiots being stupid, causing fights, and getting in trouble with the law. Long story short, didn't get to have NOT ONE g/f from age 18 to 23. After 23, I made yet ANOTHER stupid mistake which killed any chances of me finding a g/f. I got a civilian manufacturing job in the city of Colorado Springs, Colorado and subsequently was laid off after a couple of years. Again, I did not know that Colorado Springs was predomiately a military town with five bases which = little to no single women. Furthermore, I didn't realize that younger (20s) women in Colorado Springs are VERY cliquish and only date people that they went to middle and high school with. I am now 30 years old, have completed my first two years of my gen ed courses at the local community college, and am now transferring to a college back home somewhere in the southeast, Texas, or Oklahoma. I find it very discouraging that I am this old and have ZERO dating experience because of the places that I have lived haven't been conducive for meeting women. Even more depressing is the FACT that the only single women close to my age are now single moms who are divorced and I refuse to play daddy for some kid who isn't of my own blood. Even if I get accepted into a four year university in some town back in the south, the college aged women there will find me too old for them. With this said, how do I make peace with myself over the fact that I will NEVER be able to date or get married because of the FOOLISH decision that I made to go into the Marines versus going to college, getting my education, BEING ABLE TO MEET and DATE WOMEN, and socially maturing like most guys get to do? moreResolved Question: question for women who are 18+ please?
Ok, so I feel like such an awkward person at this point in my life. I am in my late 20s and STILL have not EVER had a g/f before. This is NOT by my personal choice though. I will admit that I made a mistake when I was 18 and joined the Marine Corps when I should have instead gone to college, studied, gotten my degree, AND gotten experience with the opposite sex. Instead, I was dumb, joined the Marines, and was stationed in the armpit town of Jacksonville, N.C. where there are ZERO single women available. BTW, people in the surrounding cities aren't too fond of Marines so I didn't bother trying to meet women in those places. Long story short, due to getting a job here and being laid off, I have been living in Colorado Springs, Colorado which has ZERO dating scene because it too, is a military town with five bases. Moreover, I tried online dating both here and in Denver, but all the women in Denver rejected me and all the women here in Colorado Springs said that they were single moms. I am trying to transfer to OU in Oklahoma from the community college here not only to get my degree, but to also hopefully MAYBE meet some women to date like I was SUPPOSED to be doing right after high school. Is it too late for me to start dating? Also, do you think that women in Oklahoma would be more accepting of me since I am from TN? Women in Colorado Springs tend to dislike southerners so that is already counts as a strike against me here. moreResolved Question: Looking for a title of a teenage book!?
Hi all, 7 years ago I read this book at school and it was in the teenage category. I cant remember the name or the author but I can remember certain details about it and was wondering knows of the book I am talking about if I post what I can remember. It was set in New York City with a family banning their daughter from a party but she went anyway. The family ended up moving to Jacksonville, Wyoming.. The teenage daughter did not want to go. They moved in with the grandfather and the dad started writing. The teenage girl had a few tricks played on her by classmates. The daughter ended up falling in love with a guy called Rich. The girls friends ended up visiting from New York and she told the guy she was supposed to have been seeing she was in love with Rich. I know its not a lot of details but please I am desperate to get my hands on this book. moreResolved Question: Where should I go to college and is it worth the loans?
I am caught in a financial dilemma. I am from one of those families that has no prepaid college plan. I plan to major in nursing and going on to graduate school for midwifery. I want to actually go off to college and not go to my local college which is the University of North Florida. I have been accepted to University of Central Florida and may most likely go there because of the scholarship that covers 3/4 my tuition and with bright futures (scholarship program in florida) all of it. Tuition is not the problem its the room and board. I know I may have to take out loans to pay for it if I leave Jacksonville and not stay with my mom or even if I go to UNF and stay on campus. I am on the scholarship trail right now but its so difficult. And it is hard to know between the truth and lies about college loans. I know I am even going to incur even more debt by going on to graduate school. I know for a nursing degree that I do not have to leave my city but I want that college experience of actually being away from my mom and being able to mature. Also I need a good undergraduate program in order to get into the only two graduate midwifery programs in Florida ( University of Miami and University of Florida). My desires for an authentic college experience is conflicting with my needs. What should I do? Suck it up and go to UNF and save some money and hope for the best or go to UCF and incur some debt before going on to graduate school? moreMore Jacksonville City Schools Results
