I'm considering starting an antiques retail business, under a ltd company, and am working out a long-term business plan and monthly cash-flow forecast. I intend to withdraw as little money as possible from the company so I can re-invest it in more, and better, stock. So, if it makes say, £50,000 profit after all costs in a year but I re-invest all of that money back into more stock, will I have to pay Corporation Tax on all of that profit? Or, do I only have to pay Corporation Tax on any money left over or withdrawn after I've bought the new stock? In other words, how are Profits defined when it comes to Corp. Tax? I started in retail and loved it. It only took me a year until i stepped into a supervisory role and enjoyed that too. Unfortunately the manager that took over the store bullied me and so i ended up hating my job jacked it in and started working in admin. Ive landed a receptionist job in a hotel and the plan was to move upwards as the manager thinks im picking it all up really well. The assistant manager has just told me she only earns 80p more than me per hour!!? I was on more than her when i was a supervisor let alone management. Is this the usual case, does retail pay more? I am not sure whether this is good enough for a personal statement and I would appreciate it a lot if someone could take a look at it for me. Thank you again! Fashion Futures Personal Statement Fashion is aesthetically beautiful anyway you look at it. It is captivating and it draws attention to the eyes of many. Even though it wasn’t until recently that I felt that Fashion is my passion, I was always subconsciously attracted to it. Currently, I seem to have an affinity for keeping abreast the latest fashion trends be it for women or men. For a period of time, uncertainty became my enemy and kept a tight grip on me. This left me clueless about what I wanted to achieve in life. Prior to this however, I was studying Computer Games and Japanese in University of Westminster. After completing BTEC Nationals and an Access Course in College, I was confused about what it is I wanted to study at University. However, my peers and student advisors advised me to study something that I would find interesting. Gaming was the main hobby I could think of that moment so I decided to go for that. However, my passion for Japanese outweighed the Computer Games so I decided to study that on it’s own after my first year. Constantly thinking about what I should include with my Japanese, I thought about applying to do a Fashion Course. However, it could not be any Fashion course and it would have to be quiet specific. For that I did some heavy research and found none of the other fashion courses very appealing. Browsing the net, I searched the UEL website and found the Fashion Futures combined programme. The modules in the course and the summary of the course itself sparked a flame in me and I know immediately that I wanted to do this course. The course interested me extremely due to the fact that every time I was searching for new fashion trends, I would be coming up with ideas of different styles that would appear in the future. Trend Predicting is an ingenious idea for a course as it will assist me highly in the future. At this present time, I speak fluent Japanese and plan to study Korean. Reason for this being that Japanese and Korean fashion is currently a little similar to the Western world however, they seem to have applied different styles to their own, which has made it seem as though that type of trend does not exist yet. There are a lot of designers in Japan and Korea who are also creating a lot of styles like the Belgian futuristic designer Martin Margiela. I would love to do a lot of Research on this different type of fashion and this course will teach me the accurate way of Researching and Analyzing in order to anticipate different types of trends that might appear in the future or any time period. My background in IT has made me computer literate and I find this a valuable asset to have since the Course will include using digital equipments. Even though, I have yet to work in a Fashion industry, a year in the retail experience business has graced me with the ability to intuitively adapt easily to any challenge that I encounter. Skills that I am proud of through experience are to lead, based on my work as a Team Leader; communicate easily with team members and analyzing every aspect of any given job. Languages; is almost like a gift that comes naturally to me as I am able to learn any language quiet easily. Currently, I speak a bit of French, German, Japanese, Korean and Chinese. The interesting aspect of this is that each of these countries has different types of Fashion Trends, which I found interesting after comparing them with each other and the UK. However, it seems that the UK contained all the different trends from these countries due to the multicultural ethnicities here. During my spare time, I like to read books to keep my brain stimulated and I enjoy playing dance games because it is a very good way to keep fit while having fun. People find me quiet amusing and sometimes go as far as to say that it isn’t fun without me. My friends have always mentioned that I am quiet good at accessorizing i.e. with clothes and accessories. Even though I have expressed my interest in this course and proved how much I want to do this course, I know it will be difficult because this is a very demanding course and I am prepared to go through any obstacles to do this course. This course is exactly what will determine my future and I am prepared to lay down everything for a chance at this. moreResolved Question: how can i improve this cover letter?

I realise that I am going to be in the minority but Britain joining the Euro is a good move. 1. The pound is not the major currency we think it is - The dollar, euro and yen are all much more important - even before the euro the duetchmark was more important. 2. We would not be ripped off changing our currency (today's business rate in the FT 1.148 - the retail exchange rates between 1.08 and 1.10 + commission) meaning egg and chips on the costa is 5% more expensive than if we where in the Euro. 3. I dont need the pound to prove I am British. 4. Pricing would stabilize for products we brought in and sold to Europe meaning businesses can effectively plan. 5. Prices across Europe could be priced more effectively 6. Our economy would grow. 7. The only power we would surrender is the right to set interest rates - which have always been lower than the UK since setting up until November - I could have saved thousands on my mortgage. I was wondering if you would be so kind as to answer some questions for me? I have a number of friends who wish me to trade their money in the retail foreign exchange market for them and my worry is one of tax. My friends are spread out across the globe (I am in England) and my intention was to trade their accounts and for us to split fifty - fifty. Does anyone have any pointers for me? How do I go about this in as informal a way as possible? I really don't want to bring in lawyers and start an actual business. We all trust each other and they are willing to let me do this on an informal basis. I will trade their accounts and if they make money they will withdraw it and send me half. That is the plan, but what about tax? If they withdraw profits at regular intervals, do they have to pay tax on the whole amount and then send me half which I will then have to pay tax on too or do they send half right away and we each pay tax on what we receive? I really don't want to have to set up as a business and be screwed out of even more money just to give the government, so could someone in the know give me an idea the best way to progress? Thank you. moreResolved Question: i want to start my own business.........?

I believe I have to pay VAT on CIF cost-insurance-freight. My supplier doesnt think I should be paying VAT on cost of imported goods from Hong Kong as they are coming from outside Europe. Is VAT payable on all childrens products from Hong Kong... what about childrens clothing? Also, I have quotes for shipping, duty, customs payable, but what does CAF mean? Finally,my main product should retail at between £25-£28, I would appreciate an idea of what major stores would likely to want to purchase them for before VAT added. Any help greatly appreciated. Hi, My sister and I are keen to start up a small online business (retail) and its going to be more of a hobby than a big business venture. I've read up about domain names, web hosts, web builders and editors, copyrights and trademarks, etc ... the thing I am abit confused about is: 1. Do we have to register with Companies House as a requirement? Or is it not neccessery? I can't work out if they are a legal requirement? 2. Although we dont plan to earn big bucks and will likely not make over the tax allowances, do we have to register vat and add vat to out items?? Sorry if this sounds stupid. You see lots of little online stores and myspaces selling items and their prices dont look like they add tax... Thanks, CharleneI should have added - I work fulltime and already pay NI and tax ... so i would not register as self-employed as it would be something on the side, or would I?Thanks for the comments so far! As this will be a sideline hobby, we aim to spend as little as possible. I dont think we will be paying alot of tax on items because they will be focused around crafts and things we or people have made for example. Therefore, would we still have to add tax to the items we sell? I looked on the inland revenues site and its so confusing! Its says about not paying tax if your under a certain amount, but it stills implies you may still have to register??? ... I think i will buy a book as well! :-)------------------------------------------------------- Thanks, that looks great. Although I still dont understand if i am required to register in the first place or not? Cheers!_______________________________ Thanks for all your great answers, you've really helped!! xx moreResolved Question: Question on retail business?
I am contemplating to get into the retail trade, but I do not have much experience in it. I am not planning to do THIS particular business, but let's speak hypothetically. If I plan to set up a shop selling computer products, and I sell material ranging from thumb drives and data cables to motherboards and computer casings, how much of each item do I need to order from the supplier? For example, thumb drives and floppy drives are hot items. Hence, I will most definitely need to order them in bulk. However, items such as motherboards and computer casings are not so sellable. They can only be sold to people who needs replacements. Hence, we do not need to order them so much. The same can be said of RAM cards. Therefore, are we able to only order a few pieces of motherboards or comouter casing at one time. Will the supplier entertain such requests? For example, can I only order 5 to 10 sets of motherboards at one time?If I were to order too many motherboards and I can't sell them off, I will be stuck with a lot of unwanted ware when the motherboards become outdated. The other day, due to the popularity of the book Harry Potter, my aunt ordered 500 or so copies for her shop. They sold like hot cakes. Somehow, the supplier also persuaded her to purchase an unknown children's story book, claiming they were also popular. She ordered about 100 copies and she is still stuck with them. My question is this. Can we order small quantities of a cerytain product from our suppliers? Will they entertain such orders? For example, can we order 5 DVD Rom or 5 motherboards? Will suppliers sell such small amounts? I am using computer products as an example only. Don't get the wrong idea. Thanks. moreResolved Question: Just off to ebay for some retail therapy....What is the stupidest/most impulsive thing you bought?
