Open Question: How to make a pet-sitting/daycare business (for small animals only)?
Any tips? How do I let people know that I will do that? I don't trust Craigslist and barely anybody knows me where I live. I am 12. I need the money!! Any tips on how much to charge, how to care for small animals, what happens if they are sick? I was planning to print out papers where they will sign, write their pet's name, write what their pet is allergic to, are they good with other animals, do you reccomend anything for you pet, etc. So I won't get into any trouble if they blame me for hurting their animals. I love animals so I will not hurt them, I will be extra careful, because I know they are small and fragile. Any other things you want to tell me about?! Oh and by small animals I mean like hamsters, guinea pigs, rats, etc. Not dogs because I don't want my dogs to attack them and plus, I don't want the dogs to chew on stuff, pee, etc. My other dogs won't like another dog being in the house. moreResolved Question: Could Psychology of Motivation Save the US Economy?
Could the US Economy Be Saved by "Jobs Creation Prizes"? In the past I have suggested prizes to get energy independence technology breakthroughs, and my suggestions were roundly ignored by the Powers that Be. I'm from Manhattan -- I have Tude -- I'm still here -- and so, not giving an inch, here is my Modest Proposal for Today --- National prizes for Job Creation. These jobs have to last at least 24 months. They can't be given to relatives or people already associated with the Job Creator Prize Contestant. The prizes will be awarded on or about 15 January 2012. They will be based on jobs created between 1 January 2011 and 1 January 2012. The top ten contestants with jobs created about 10,000 jobs will get the prizes. The prizes are twofold: 1. A Congressional Gold Medal as an Economy Booster -- and this comes with a large Certificate that states the Gratitude of the Nation, and that outlines in some detail the precise achievements of the medal winner. This would have a blue ribbon and a gold Congressional seal on it. It would come ready for framing. 2. A cash award of $10,000,000 (Ten Million dollars) The jobs have to be for citizens of USA, performing at least 90% of the job duties in USA, while speaking English, and using skills learned by experience, in High School, or in College. The jobs have to be profitable for the organization that hires the person. They can't be fake make-work jobs that just p*ss away money to get the gold medal. Each employed person must marginally contribute net profit to the firm that hires him/her. Within this framework the jobs can be any legal activity. Drug dealing is not OK, but legal porn is OK, and import/export is OK, and manual labor crafts are OK, and intellectula work (researtch and writing) is OK, and farming is OK, and pavement laying, and making music, or art, or manufactured goods, or selling Pizzas or window caulk. If the contestant commit criminal fraud by breaking the rules, or sneaky activities, then they will be personally prosecuted and get jailtime if that's what a jury decides. So the contestants have skin in the game. It's not a freebie giveaway program where they can cheat their way to victory and walk away with the cash and the medal scott free. They are at risk if they cheat. They can lose their liberty. Ego is a world driver. More for men than for women. But that's OK. It's a fact. You harness up that Ego for the National Good, and we might find a pathway out of our doldrums. If the program works as planned, then for the next two year cycle, we can bump it up to 50 prizes of only $5,000,000 (Five Million dollars each). Once the new thing has been done, and people "get" how it works, you don't need as much money to bring contestants in to the process. That was never a major incentive anyway. It was just there so that folks would know that if they won, some of their expenses would be defrayed, and their personal bank account would get bigger -- so it's worth their time to at least consider. Once tens of thousands of business people know the prizes are worth their time, you don't need to over-incentivize them with cash. The gold medal and the certificate is almost reward enough. Ideally, you want the prize money to go down to around $1,000,000 (just to pay for overhead and marginal up front costs), and the number of prizes to go to 100 every year. At some point you are creating a lot of new jobs. Not by government "stimulus" stupidities. But by incentivizing the Ego drive in Business Personages. One of these medals is a great resume item for folks in the CEO Circle. It's almost like an alternative to Gates/Buffett style Foundation work. This is better than giving money away -- it is teaching people to fish. moreResolved Question: Jobs Creation Prizes as the Salvation of our Economy -- Would it Work?

People are talking in terms of the standard routine variables -- taxes regulaion -- aggregate demand that we all learned about in Econ 101. For this question -- come with me outside the box. My implicit premise is that individual persons -- egos, personalities -- personas -- people can be a brand new resource -- never thought of before - since everyone was staring blankly at the standard variables. I say that one thing is very plain to me in this world -- individual people can make a huge difference. If Warren Buffett decided that his top and only priority in the next 12 months was to create 100,000 good new jobs HE could do it. So could Bill Gates. So could 50 other super high achiever individuals. Whatever they want to get done -- these people can get done, and not just becuase they are rich. They are Ultra-Effective Individuals. They make things happen you never learned in Econ 101. moreResolved Question: Could the US Economy Be Saved by "Jobs Creation Prizes"?

Tampa, Florida here. And before you ask, I'm a quiet tenant. I pay my rent on time religiously. A couple of days ago I walked into my bathroom (rented 1-bedroom apartment). In the bathroom there's a door made of steel on the ceiling that covers the access to the air handler, and water was dripping out through cracks in this steel door. A fair amount of water. So I called apartment maintenance, and an hour later (props to them...literally an hour) they came out here, and the maintenance guy (without even looking at anything else) immediately told me the line that takes condensation produced by the system to a drain outside was blocked. It flows via gravity. There is no pump. So he wet vac'd everything, and blew pressurized C02 gas through the line to blow out the blockage. He said it was definitely blocked, and he said he got this orange, mucousy algae crap out of it by blowing through the line. After which I naturally thought everything was fine. Skip to 30 hours later. Again, same problem. Again, maintenance was here within an hour. Only problem this time was that the maintenance man looked disconcertingly confused about why this was happening again, and unfortunately, all he did to fix it were the same things he had done the last time. Wet vac'd, CO2 gas through the line. He told me if it happens again they might have to resituate the drip pan, or possibly reroute the whole condensation line to make it go to somewhere else so gravity can evacuate the water more efficiently. It was 30 hours between the first event and the second event. It has now been almost 40 hours since the second event, and there's still no water leaking out of that steel door in the ceiling in the bathroom. Regardless, due to the confusion of the maintenance guy on the second go-round, I have no confidence that this won't happen again. None. My plan right now is to wait and see if it happens again. If it does happen again, I'm going to go to the office and talk to management about getting an HVAC specialist or a person from TRANE (that's the brand of my unit) out here to take a look at it. Couldn't this be something BESIDES the condensation line? Maintenance hasn't appeared to have considered any other possibilities. Also, the A/C unit works beautifully, in terms of it's ability to cool the apartment, but isn't it supposed to detect the kind of overflow that's happened to me twice now and turn itself off? Once the level of water in the drip pan reaches a certain level so it doesn't flood the whole house? What if I'm away and this happens again? Also, my lease is up in 3 months. I have no problem with the responsiveness of maintenance here. In fact, I applaud them for how promptly they respond. But I've rented for a lot of years, and I can't tell you how sick I am of this game that gets played with maintenance where they're like "Oh, we fixed it" but then they didn't fix it, and then "OK, this time we fixed it" but no they didnt, and it only gets fixed after 3 or 4 of those back-and-forths. And when I have to play that game that it makes me want to move. And I could move, if I felt like it. My lease is up in 3 months. But to where? Another apartment complex that might do the same or worse? Buy a house, where I'd have to pay them for labor and parts? Just because I'm writing a check for service doesn't mean the repair guy is going to do immaculate work. I'm very willing to admit that I'm part of the problem here, as well. I take these things way too personally and I start to have anxiety, distress and feelings of being betrayed in the business relationship. Which probably isn't very healthy. Anyway, any advice anyone can give (technical, psychological, or otherwise) is much appreciated. moreVoting Question: Directing/Acting - A career in the entertainment industry. Is it legitimate with effort?
So for quite some time now ever since childhood and through my high school years, I've always had this burning passion for the arts (i.e. Acting, Directing, Writing, and Music/Dance), and I have plans for continuing my education in these fields onto college, but there is a catch. I've got those typical parents that want their child to be successful in the future, with admittance into a college/university and high paying job that requires a good education. I know all they want for me is to have a better life experience than they did, and that means so much to me, so that's why I've come here to inquire any information I can. When parents think of education, and a good career, it's likely that they are thinking law, medical, engineering, etc.. How can I prove to them, that my dream to pursue a career in the industry is also legitimate? I plan to put in all of the effort I can, and incorporate my creativity into my education, but will this career be stable to support myself? I understand that the income/salary of a director or an actor varies from just about nothing to fortunes, but will earning a degree in this field and making a career out of it be enough to live an average life at the bare minimum? Will there be a good probability that I would, at the very least, be able to find a career right away and make a living? I've usually always been quite optimistic about my future in the entertainment business, but looking at a lower case scenario at a realistic point of view, I just want to make sure that if I don't happen to go high with it, I'd be able to at least live decently. Oh and I'm currently a 16 year old going on my junior year in high school. I'm enrolled in drama, and my fourth year of French. Academic wise, I'm taking an AP English language class and the rest of the required classes. Just wanted to include this information for any miscellaneous reasons. moreVoting Question: Directing/Acting - A future career in the entertainment business? Is it efficient?

Hi All, I realize turning to YA for this maybe a long shot, but I figured I would give it a go anyway. I'm currently writing a Masters level dissertation about Commercial Self Publishing and I need some help focusing my methodology chapter. My research question is centered around the concept of whether or not 'Commercial' Digital Self Publishers such as Authorhouse are representing themselves correctly based on the services they offer potential authors. For example, Lulu.com calls itself a self publisher, yet their listed business model makes them sound as more of vanity publisher(a term that is obviously looked down upon in the industry). My main plan of methodology was to complete a Content Analysis of four popular digital self publishing company websites by focusing on different aspects including their selling 'Motto' or website branding slogan, Marketing Plan, How much they offer authors in Royalties, etc and then make inferences about whether or not this makes them Vanity, Subsidy, or true Self Publishers. My question for everyone is: Does Content Analysis make sense in this context? Over the past month, i have read at least 15 research books and I keep coming back to this concept for my project, although I don't understand the framework of what the Content Analysis works in. Does analyzing websites mean that I'm doing Textual Analysis or something else? Most of my data will be qualitative, only dealing with numbers periodically from the information in the literature review. Does this mean I am using induction or deduction?? I have most of the data collected and am actually prepared to write, but I keep stumbling over A. What my methodology "type" is and B. If it's actually correct or if I should choose a different methodology outside of Content Analysis. Does anyone have any insight or recommendations? Unfortunately, my thesis advisor is completely rubbish and has been absolutely useless throughout this ENTIRE process. If I email him, he emails back saying things like "Good Job, Keep it Up, Etc. Nothing of substance, so basically I'm working with no support from my department. I know I'm on the right track, I just need a little more guidance on this. Thanks for your help!!!!Oh, I should also note that I was unable to find much formal research on my topic. No dissertations, No Term papers either. Most of my lit review is made up of newspaper articles and industry opinion pieces. moreResolved Question: How long did it take you to finish your business plan? What were the most helpful websites for market research?
I'm writing one right now. I ended up going to a coffee shop today in old colorado city...I just needed motivation, I have been going at it for days... Thank you!! moreVoting Question: I don't know what I want to do with my life?
I always thought I was going to study law at Cambridge University (England) to become a successful lawyer raking in loads of money and managing a great career. But then I had a sudden change of heart this summer when I realized, I HATE paperwork. I am a straight A student with honors since Kindergarten. I've never had a problem in school, I always finished my assignments on time with high marks. But I procrastinate. Its almost unbelievable that I could get anything done with how long I wait to put it off. Ill save a ten page essay til the day before its due and I manage to get an A+ on it somehow. I don't want to live that way though. I thought I wanted to be at the top of the business chain with an office and a view and then I'd come home to my million dollar mansion. However, I like to be creative. I like to draw and paint and get piercings and tattoos and spend all day sleeping and wake up in the middle of the night to write a short story about nothing. I want a job that allows me to be creative and thats not necessarily what comes to mind when I think of a lawyer or an accountant or a CEO. I want to live a good life though, not a starving artist who can't afford to pay the bills on time. I've been on the poor end of the bargain and that's not what I want for myself at 25 years old. What would you recommend that I choose as my career? And i'd like to point out that I don't find anything wrong with having a job like a lawyer but I want to be able to release my creativity in some way and not have to live a boring life. Can you help?! THANKS :) (by the way I am a freshman in high school so I've got about 3 years to figure out what I plan on doing with myself) moreVoting Question: SM Audition and Trainee Life?
SM Audition and Trainee Life? I've been thinking about auditioning for SM Entertainment within the next few years, and I've had a ton of questions about it. I am Korean American and I can understand most Korean and I am learning how to read and write Korean. I have also played the piano for six years and the violin for 1 1/2 years, and I know basic Chinese(Mandarin) and I'm still learning. 1. I'm planning to go to the weekly auditions in LA but if they have global auditions around the time I want to audition, should I go to those? Also for the weekly auditions, could you live in another state and still do it because I live in the Southeast? 2. What are the categories you can audition for? I want to audition for singing but because my singing and dancing is about average, I might audition for acting or modeling(if they have one for that). Also if I do get accepted through acting, could I train in singing and dancing as well, or would I have to audition again for those categories? 3. If you audition for singing, should you prepare songs in Korean or in English? 4. When they make you dance, will it be freestyle and about how long will they make you dance? And will you have to dance alone or in a line with the other people? 5. For acting, what do you have to do? Will you have to act out a script that they give you or do you have to prepare one? Does it have to be from a Korean show or could it be an English script? 6. I am 13 right now, and I plan to audition when I'm about 14 1/2 or 15, so I can improve my skills. Will I be too old to audition then? 7. I know that most Koreans like girls to be small and petite. I'm 5'7", so am I too tall? I'm around 130 pounds, and I have some muscles because I've been a competitive swimmer for three years, so do I weigh too much for their "standards" and should I lose my muscle? 8. Will they send me to an international school because I am not fluent? 9. Do you live in a dorm if your family is living in America, or could I stay with relatives that live in Seoul? 10. Will I be able to go to college if I have to train for a lot of years, because just in case my entertainment career doesn't work out, I want to have a backup plan? 11. How does training work? Is it like school for acting, singing, and dancing? 12. What time of the day do you train and how many hours do you do it? 13. On average how many years would I have to train? I saw online that most SM groups trained for 3-5 years, but also some girls from SNSD had to train 7-9 years. 14. Would I get to visit my family often? 15. Does SM give you some money as you train, for necessities and stuff? 16. This isn't really a question, but I'm just asking for some advice. My entire life, I've been doing what my parents want me to do, which is get good grades so I can get into a good college and become a successful doctor or lawyer or business woman. I've a had a dream for auditioning since about last year. I really want to do it because I know its what I'm passionate about and I won't regret it, but my parents will just think its because I'm obsessed with Kpop. My mom even said to me once," Lindsay, I'm glad you don't have silly dreams of auditioning to go to Korea. Those kids may be famous but they'll only last a few years. How could any parent let their child go through years of training just for that." That hurt me so bad, because I want to do this and like I said if it doesn't work out, I'll make sure I have something to fall back on. I'm trying to practice how to tell them about this in 2 years when I want to audition. Since last year, I've focused so hard in school to impress my parents, getting only 99s and 100s on my report cards, and even managing to take high school math classes. This year its my goal to be valedictorian or at least in the top 3 when I graduate so that I can get on their good side. But to me it seems impossible to be able to convince my parents, because they've planned out my entire life. I balance school with sports and community service because they signed me up for all those things. They even send me to a private school that cost $25,000 a year to help "improve" my education. It seems like life is totally against my dream. Does anyone have any advice to help me? And for the record, I do not just want to give up this dream and continue living my life like it is. I am 100% positive I want to try and audition and if I pass, I will no matter what not regret it. And even if I don't pass SM, I may try JYP or YG, or just keep auditioning for SM. Any kind of advice on how to convince my parents or how I should tell would be helpful. moreVoting Question: Do I have a chance at getting accepted into the University of Florida (UF)?
Right now I'm currently a high school senior. I have a 3.79 unweighted GPA with a 4.5 weighted. Ranked 11 out of 550. I'm taking three AICE classes this year and one AP. I took 4 AICE classes last year and an AP. I took an AP is tenth grade as well. I'm an officer in the National Honor Society and the captain of the Academic Club, which competes. I'm part of the Int'l Business Academy and plan to major in Business Management/Minor in Accounting. 100 + Community service hours I got a 1080/1600 on my SATs, 1650/2400 with writing (Which is pretty bad, I'm retaking them) I have yet to take my ACTs but I will in October. I have a sibling who is graduating from UF in December. I'm a white, middle class female if that factors in anyway. How are my credentials? Hello all! I am going into my second year at a California community college (Mira Costa). Time to start getting ready to apply to transfer to a 4 year university. I was just wondering what my chances are at making it into USC's Marshall School of Business.. CC gpa: will be at a 3.4 by the time I apply in October. I work for a private investment firm, for a man who is one of the top contributors to the UC schools. I work very closely with his accountant and executive assistant, which will hopefully be excellent people to write letters of rec (I have some others in mind as well). I have also recently acquired a mentorship with the founder of the natural health food company Kashi, no longer owners of it since it was sold to Kellogg awhile back. I also intend to join my CC's finance/investment club very soon. My goal is to transfer into the Marshall School of Business. I would like to acquire an internship during my undergraduate studies, work/intern once I graduate, and go to grad school for my M.B.A. In my spare time I enjoy bodybuilding, surfing, buying/selling for profit, and am in a big virtual stock game (I placed 420 out of 12,000 people, not sure how important that is but thought I'd mention it :) ) I have been bodybuilding for several years, and plan on competing next year. I will be tying this into my essay, since it has played a significant role in my life. It has truly shaped who I am, giving me the confidence and determination I have. I have a clear goal in mind and I know I can achieve it, if I can just get that on paper and show them that! I know quite a few people there, will be joining a fraternity if I get in, and it just seems like the best fit for me. Not sure how much this matters, but I am also Iranian, and have helped the youth in my community with holding past athletic events. Thank you for taking the time to read all of that. :) Any input would be greatly appreciated.I understand, and I have seen the minimum gpa requirements, and asked my counselor (said the avg gpa this year was 3.4-3.6). The reason I'm asking with my personal info/background is because he made sure to tell me that USC looks a lot at the person as a whole, placing a higher emphasis on extracurriculars and letters of recommendation. Thank you moreVoting Question: Is this right? Or do I need to be corrected? Please help?
I am a 17 y.o currently doing my A Levels, and I basically want to become a lawyer and practice in the US. However, I am currently living in the UK. So, this is how I plan to get to where I want to be: - Pass my A-levels and get into a good University. - Get a joint honours bachelor of arts/science degree in Business with law or criminology with sociology (the coursework/essays/papers will prepare me for the excessive writing required in Law School, plus I find those two courses interesting) Now this is where the confusion comes in. Is this enough to get into an American Law School or do I need to do my masters in the UK then go onto Law School in the States? I ask this because on the Law School websites it always says students must have completed 4 yrs of University but I will only have spent 3 years in University. Help me please and thanks in advance. moreResolved Question: Does this help with the demand question? i really dont understand any of it..?
Polynomials Polynomials can be used for many different real-world applications. The problems shown below are only some of the possible applications. Application Practice Answer the following questions. 1.In this problem, we analyze the profit found for sales of graphic t-shirts. A demand equation (sometimes called a demand curve) shows how much money people would pay for a product depending on how much of that product is available on the open market. Often, the demand equation is found empirically (through experiment, or market research). a.Suppose a market research company finds that at a price of p = $25, they would sell x = 60 shirts each month. If they lower the price to p = $15, then more people would purchase the shirts, and they can expect to sell x = 75 shirts in a month’s time. Find the equation of the line for the demand equation. Write your answer in the form p = mx + b. Hint: Write an equation using two points in the form (x, p). Show all your work. A company’s revenue is the amount of money that comes in from sales, before business costs are subtracted. For a single product, you can find the revenue by multiplying the quantity of the product sold, x, by the demand equation, p. b.Substitute the result you found from part a. into the equation R = xp to find the revenue equation. Provide your answer in simplified form. Show all your work. The costs of doing business for a company can be found by adding fixed costs, such as rent, insurance, and wages, and variable costs, which are the costs to purchase the product you are selling. The portion of the company’s fixed costs allotted to this product is $600, and the supplier’s cost for a shirt is $18 each. Basically i want to go to MIT since im a Techno freak. Im 16 and yet I one of those people who just love work with tech. I have motherboards and chips laying around my room which pisses of my mom. I currently manage a console repair business on ebay, I'm a sound engineer for a band which also involves a lot of speaker repair which means im best friends with a soldering iron. I'm also really good with computers. I design websites and know how to write code.. I'm planning to either take a robotic or programing class but I don't know. Yet the problem is that I don't think my grades do measure up. I 've been taking honors and AP classes since 6th grade yet my grades are really average. I mean I could be an A student, my test scores show it, yet for example I read at college level yet i still get a C in English which gets a lot of my teachers mad. I Like math yet once it starts to bore me my grade drop. I love science but well I hate biology which resulted in me passing it with a C yet Chemistry I past it with an A+. I take French and well I take computers but i usually get the work done in 10 min. and then just sleep. My technical passion is great yet my academic passion isn't .. and that's what worries me.. I would rather be soldering a chip to a motherboard than reading a book yet I don't think that's enough to get me in. Does anybody have some advice..I've only taken I AP course which was history but I got a 2 :( yet my school doesn't have any AP science course but I plan to eventually take AP cal.Well If you average out all my grades they're about a B-.. I know some of my friends who have perfect grades who want to go to MIT yet they barely know how to turn on a PC which kind of makes sad since they probably have a better chance than I do.You guys get me...Its not that i'm not smart I just don't have a big academic passion for certain subjects. moreResolved Question: How do i cost my menu?

So, i've been doing a lot of research the past couple weeks on the whole Korean Entertainment business, so I think I've got all the basics down, but I still have a few questions I need opinions on, preferably resourceful ones! :) Here's a little about me: I'm full Korean but I've lived in America my entire life. I'm very fluent in English with no Korean accent, and I'm also fluent in Korean WITH the Korean accent (like a natural), but I'm pretty sure I'll have to take a few classes to brush up the edges in my Korean, plus writing and reading. I'm fourteen, fifteen in Korean age, and I've fallen in love with South Korea. I feel like my fate is there, even though I'm stuck here; so I decided to step up out of the box and go into something completely out of my path. Of course, everyone has the dream of becoming famous and well-known around the world, I for sure do, and even though I was a bit discouraged in my younger years of thinking, out of the billions of people who try to make this their career, how can I be a famous singer? I'm actually decent in singing, although I've never taken lessons. My friends say I'm really good, and I feel like even if there's a very slim chance I could ever step up to the big plates next to like Big Bang and SNSD, I can at least try and do this. I'm 5'3" and I'm not sure if I'll grow any taller because I haven't in a while. I'm 150 pounds, which is a bit on the 'more than average' side for my height, but my mom was fat before college and is now the skinniest person I know, so I'm hoping this will just be a part of our genes. I'm not photogenic because of my weight but I'm not going to say I'm ugly. To give an honest bio, and hoping for an honest response from all of you, I'll tell you right now that I think if I lost some weight, I'd be really really pretty. Maybe its the compliments from the people around me thats getting to my head, but I'm decent looking. Music is something different for me, and I've had experience in song writing. I'm absolutely motivated and even if I'm lazy sometimes, when I have something to do with a busy schedule, I get to it. I saw a taro reader this summer when I went to Korea, and she said I'll be successful at anything that involves other people and speaking out, and that I won't give up at anything. So with that, I have a few questions. 1) Can anyone tell me how the auditions work specifically? Like what happens round 1, 2, and 3, and how much time do they need in between to evaluate? 2) Say I made the 1st audition, and then have to go to Korea for the 2nd, do I need to stay for the 3rd? 3) What happens to the people who never debut? 4) I don't have experience in dancing, although I'm planning to sign up for a hiphop dance class this year just to get myself prepared, so I don't think JYP is for me. As for YG, I don't have like AMAZING talent, so the chances are slim there. Can someone explain Cube to me, as well as DSP? 5) Will the company pay for the rest of your schooling, for instance if I went into international school? I heard its incredibly expensive. 6) Is it necessary to take vocal and dance lessons before auditioning? I know its recommended, but are there big stars to didn't, and made it? 7) I plan to take vocal and hiphop dance lessons for two years with hard training, and when I'm 16, I'll go to Korea for the summer and audition. Will it be too late by that age? 8) Do people waste their lives giving their all for this, and then don't make it, and then they have nothing else left to do in their lives? I definitely fear that. I'm a really good student, I get 4.0 gpas, I have a great social life, but I really want to give this all I've got, even if it means throwing my life out there, but I'm just not ready for failure after years and years of trying. 9) If anyone has like direct connections to entertainment companies, for instance you have friends or neighbors in the business, please contact me! I really want tight details without loose ends. My email is iamkorean96@yahoo.com 10) How much allowances will they give us? 11) On average a day, do we get any free time, like to chill around the house or sightsee around town? 12) Do you have any other comments/recommendations/words of support? I know this could be a long-shot, but this year I'm trying new things all over the place, (like going to a new district, new high school, doing my first sport ever- cross country-, going to do lessons in vocals and hip hop dance, and taking small steps toward this dream... and who knows what else!) If you think this will be impossible for someone like me, go ahead and write the comment. I really just want honest opinions. moreResolved Question: I need some serious help with this...I do not understand any of this..I have did research online for days HELP?

I'm planning on writing a novel, and I wanted to know if anyone would buy. It's about a teenage girl who works at a nursing/retirement home and is offered the opportunity to take the pictures that will go in the advert for the business. When she arrives to take the pictures, she notices words in the pictures. She then begins asking questions and snapping pictures, receiving answers. It turns out that the man she's talking to is the father of a woman in the retirement home. He wants the girl to save his daughter from having her organs harvested. He tells her about the fine print to the paper work, where the signer agrees not to help a patient if they go into a stroke or have a heart attack. Now she must expose the hospital for what it's worth, save the man's daughter, and get out aluve herself. What do you think? I know it's really out there, but please just give me your opinion. Is it cheesy or cliché? Unique? Just let me know how I can improve it. Thanks! No no no, the womans father is dead. Lately, my mom has been acting really upset [like she does every month] but I just got thinking that my mom and I have never been close except for when I was like 8 or 9. We used to write letters to each other, give presents, sometimes share a bed and talk at night. She always gets upset at me if I don't study and play on the computer. Last time I did that, I ended up in my room for the rest of the day, and the next morning she acted like nothing had happened. Sometimes she calls me arrogant or whatever when I talk back to her. Then she tells me to plan for my future and she always asks me what I want to be even though I don't know yet and then gets mad if I don't want to tell her [I go through phases where I want to be something]. The reason I don't tell her is because I don't trust her and am afraid that she will tell everyone everything (aunts, grandmas, dad). Then one time, I said I wanted to be a doctor, but I didn't study (ironic, no?) then she gets all mad because I don't study. We fight because she says a lot of things I do is dumb like when she wanted a bowl because she was making spaghetti, she said "Can you go get the...uh...the thing?" and was gesturing to the counter with bowls and plates and whatnot and I'm like what? Then she got mad and said I don't have common sense. Or...like when I was complaining about switching schools because I created a problem two years which caused me to constantly switch schools, she got mad. I can't find myself to trust her and a lot of times I cry at night. And sometimes I think she doesn't sympathize with me and tells me that I created a problem (and yes, I did create problems for her) She might also be stressing because she's trying to start a business so my dad can retire. Help? :( And I'm not trying to make my mom sound bad, I want to get closer to her. Badly. Seriously. Like I'm jealous that other girls get special handpicked out presents or presents for special occasions like they are just growing up or just because. I get good grades and stuff, like straight A's except P.E. where I get B+s. But she just says I'm average student, I need to be better than average. She wants me in Honors classes and I do too and I'm really trying. She also wants me to get awards Please don't say that she just wants the best for me because I know that. Sometimes she acts nice to me, but when I do one thing wrong like annoying her or my brother annoys her (which is usually the case) she gets mad for almost the rest of the day. I wish I was 8 again when we did so much for each other. :( I want to cry. I'm always thinking she doesn't find me worth enough as a daughter and she complains (not complaining, but like...eehhh just not happy) that her friends' daughters achieve more than me. HELP.Oh, and just now she was about to leave to go somewhere and then she said she was proud of me and I'm going to do well in my new school. But I DON'T get it. I worked for this lady.. i filled out al my paper work, but i dont think she ever put it through... soo ya i dont know if shes got records of me working..and i doubt the other employees would vouch that i worked there for a few weeks cause they would be scared 2 get fired.. soo anyways..my main question is... what can i do? - i called the lady today and told her to get me my check by this friday or i will start doing something about it..and she told me she plans to pay me in full but just not yet... because she doesnt have money at the moment.. so i donno what to do. - i would like some advice? am i intitled to sue her? what do i do? how do i proceeed? what evidence do i have on her... other than a check from a count she closed down? thanks for the helpThe evidence i have is the Check that she wrote out to me with my name on it It is also a business check.. says the facilities name on it. OK so this is a guy I knew from high school. I never dated him then, and he was a known player, or acted like one. Then he became a semi-successful musician, working with some major touring rock bands. I myself work in film, so I work with celebrities all the time - no big deal to me. Plus to me he's still "Scott" from high school (I dated his best friend.). In high school I was one of the cute girls, but always nice. The only reason I stayed away from him romantically was his reputation. We are now both in our 40's, and we met up at a small reunion here in town (NYC.) We have both kept a lot of our looks/ stayed in shape, healthy, etc. He hit on me really hard, which surprised me, and I completely played down. I finally accepted a date when he walked me to my car. To my surprise, I had a great time on the date (we both did) including some major smooching. >;-) He expected us both to follow up with a lot of texting, but I didn't text much, so I didn't know what he was alluding to (sexting.) OK, so the texts/sexts actually worked out, I didn't really mind, I had some fun with it (I'm pretty open-minded, and I don't take it that seriously) - I'm also a writer, so I can write really funny or surprising texts like nobody's business. Then when we met up next - very casually - he seemed withdrawn. I didn't push it, since I know guys really don't like to talk face-to-face. Over text later, I asked him about it, and he said he just didn't feel ready for a relationship, and he knows I'm not really FWB. OK, fine with me, platonic is great, and I totally support him doing his thing, as a friend. I also know he's struggling a bit financially right now. I completely understand his need to focus, and I support his going after his muse. I feel the same way about my own life. Suddenly, when he heard all that, he liked me again. I assumed he was just happy that I was cool with being platonic friends, but then the sexting started up again (he started.) I tend to send funny sexts, not graphic; he writes typical guy/graphic stuff. I tend to keep it short, end the texts first, and I seldom start. I also try to be normal/ sporadic in answering - I leave it alone when I'm busy, and I never ask for a date. So after his starting a graphic sexting session on Sat. (*very* late), I ended nicely - I had to get up Sunday. Then, when I did send him a Sunday night text (asking about an inside joke) - no reply. So - I stopped. It's now Tuesday. From what I hear, I should just hold off, completely. I know he really likes me, we vibe on a lot of levels, but I also know he's in a very conflicted space right now - he wants to make one more big push for his music career. I figure he's in his "cave" so to speak. Plus, I know other girls still get his attention, naturally. Though, he's not *quite* the super-gorgeous young guy he used to be. So, that game's a bit harder for him now - think about it, on Saturday night, he's home alone after a gig, sexting me at 3 am & trying to get me to come over. Meanwhile, I flirt with other guys I like, including mutual friends we have on facebook. Not too bold, just people I would normally chat/flirt with anyway. My plan is to wait 10 days, and if I hear nothing by then, I'll send him a smile face (only) and be done with it. for my one class I have to write an autobiography here's the 8 things I need and the problems with them 1. your ancestry-it's about where your grandparents were born and how they shaped your parents lives (my parents most likely don't know that, and plus none of them had good relationships with there parents-abuse/alcoholism/abandonment) 2.early years-where you were born and raised and schools (I have a really bad memory of my childhood-at least the good parts-but I can probably make up some stuff easily) 3.family-explain your relationships with them (me and my mom don't talk she's an alcoholic and recently got drunk and attacked me (cops were contacted btw) me and my dad aren't that close and my sister stole from my parents and moved out of the country-I really don't want my teacher to know this, but I'm horrible at making this stuff up) 4.school years-(I can do this easily) 5.hobbies and goals-(same as #4) 6.career goals-what career you want to pursue and why (so far my only plans for when I'm 18 is to move out, I have absolutely no clue what I want to do when I grow up...or if I'm even going to college) 7.reading-(same as #4) 8.course-(same as #4) so under most circumstances I'm horrible at making up stuff in writing, if it's a lie you can pretty much tell by my crappy writing. I really don't want my teacher to know about my family, because 1 it's non of her business, and 2 I don't want to be treated any differently. So what should I do? And also for the ancestry I'm lost. My childhood is basically a bunch of blurs and blanks with a couple really clear memories-but those are all bad things. and for my career?? I have absolutely no clue what I want to do. What should I write? moreResolved Question: Tefl Question Check point 5?
Ive already had two attempts i only get one more. Now write a lesson plan for a 45-minute-long lesson on the chosen topic in the space provided below. Click here to remind yourself of the model structure for a lesson plan. To pass this task, make sure each stage of your plan includes an activity description, the type of interaction, and the timing. For example: 1. Warmer. Play dictionary using the words taught in the previous lesson. S-S 5 minutes Answer: 1. Warmer: show them pictures of a train time table ask context questions eg does the train for London leave at 11.00? T-S 2 Mins 2.Lead-in: Using a picture of a business man looking at a train time table, elicit from the students his ages wither he looks like hes a business man, where would he be going eg a business meeting. S-T 3 mins. 3.Role-Play the students could ask out the business man asking the for information about trains at the information desk. eg how long certain trains take and how many stops its makes? S-S 10 4.Plenary: After walking round the class listening to the students i will drill the most common errors made. T-S 5 mins 5.Presentation:Give students a copy of the timetable. Have them write a small script of two business men planning on taking a train to London. Using the timetable the students will discuss how the business men will purchase a ticket and what train they will take. Write some of the suggestions on the board. Highlight intonation, word stress and drill.? S-T 12 mins 6.Plenary: Feedback, ask students to mark each other work. Common mistakes will be noted on the board. 3 mins 7.Production:Students in pairs will complete a gap fill activity. S-S 5 mins. 8.Plenary: Feedback on activity. Ask a few of the students to read out there answers. S-T 3 mins 9. Homework: Students will use the information from the gap fill activity to make up there own scenario when they take the train. Students will need to write 6 sentences describing the scenario. T-S 2 mins. Comment: Your plan needs to follow a PPP sequencing. That is: A lead in, then in the presentation stage teach meaning, form and pronunciation of the new phrases in task 3. Then in the practice stage a controlled activity to practise the phrases and a freer one in the production stage. moreResolved Question: Obtaining sponsors for local talent show...?
I having been doing my share of research and needing some assistance (guidance). I am planning on hosting a local talent show. I want to provide school supplies, so the event will be before school starts (next year). I also want to involve the community and I will be selling raffle tickets at the event and they will receive prizes of some sort. The contestants will also receive prizes. I'm trying to figure out how to go about asking for sponsorship. I have a long list of local businesses that I plan to write. At the event I plan to announce the opening of....(my non profit organization) because it is geared towards students Kindergarten - College..The reason for the sponsors would be to donate prizes and school supplies..Is this asking too much? Am I going about this the right way? Is this asking too much? Also, what is a good time to send out letters (i don't want to do it too early or too late). I try very hard in school my best subjects are : Math Social Studies Worst : Writing English How can i make my writing STRONGER?!?! moreResolved Question: I'm so confused about the future; I hate it.?
I am 16, turning 17 in a few months, and in September, I will be entering the 12th grade. I will graduate and life will go on. Unfortunately, it's the life part after grad that's freaking me out. I have a deep rooted fear of being a cashier for the rest of my life and living with my mom well into my mid to late twenties. Now, some of you may think "That's not so bad, 25 and living with your mom, what's the big deal?" Well, when you have four brothers who don't seem to be going anywhere and you're only sister is four provinces away, it's a pretty big deal! Especially when the house isn't big enough for everyone to have their own room! 7 people in this house is just too much. I don't now how I do it sometimes. Anyway, I feel that life leading up to my graduation of High School, was extremely well planned out. First it's Elementary School, then High School and they eventually lead me to Life. It might not make sense to you, but it's how my mind works. Now, I don't know what I'm going to do after I graduate. I don't want to waste my life away doing nothing, but working at a grocery store and living with my mom. I've always liked school. I've hated teachers, students, classes, a lot of things that come with (High) school, but it's fun, and I enjoy it. If I try (not very hard) I can get good grades, I understand what I'm learning (except for Math). So, I wouldn't mind going to College or University. BUT! I don't know what I'd study, and if I don't go to Post-Secondary, then what other things can I do? Travel? Sure, but I'm terrified of new places. Especially if I don't know anyone. I'm not one for change. It's inevitable, but I prefer to stay as grounded for as long as possible. I could eventually start my own business. I love to read and make up stories. I could open a book store, or write a book, but who would buy my novel, who would walk into my store? I could go to a college and become a librarian, that's not a bad job. But do I really want to do that until I finally retire? I'm just extremely confused and scared of living a boring life not getting married, growing old and living with my mom. How do you have an interesting life? How do you meet life changing people? How do you live?! BTW, I'm most likely thinking wayyy too much into this, so don't take me too seriously, I know I don't. :) moreResolved Question: Chances of getting into UC Berkeley?
I am senior in high school this fall, graduating in May 2011. I've been doing some heavy research on colleges, and I have selected UC Berkeley as my top choice for multiple reasons. I am sure it is going to be my reach school, but wondered if there is either no chance of acceptance or a high chance. Here are my credentials: I live out of state in the west US, although I don't think that matters that much. I have a 4.0 unweighted GPA and I take all the hardest classes my school offers (the equivalent of A.P. classes and such). Although I don't play sports, I have a lot of other extra-curriculars: Speech and Debate (president, 3rd place at state debate) Business Professionals of America FFA (treasurer) Jr. Civitan (community service club) Student Government I did concert/jazz/pep band for the last three years I also have community 'extra-curriculars' such as Boy Scouts of America and I am the president of our city's Youth City Council board. My SAT scores are lower than I like but I took the test without studying or preparing. I'm planning on taking it again (along with the Subject Tests) this fall and I'm prepping for it this time lol. The scores are: Reading: 630, Math: 650, Writing: 610. My ACT is similar at a 28, although I'm studying to take it again as well. I don't know exactly how many hours of community service I have logged (which is going to be a pain to get through) but I do community service regularly. I am also going to start volunteering at the hospital soon. My passion is philosophy and I intend to double major in it as well as psychology (my ultimate goal is to become a psychiatrist). I have a pure love of knowledge and truth, and enjoy spending my time reading classic texts. However, I also really enjoy playing soccer and basketball. I hope I'm a relatively well-rounded student. UC Berkeley seems to have a very very broad range of applicants who get accepted, from low scores with lots of activites to high scores and national awards. I am simply wondering where I fall in on that scale. I know there are websites out there that help, but hopefully I'll gain some personal insight here. Thanks! moreResolved Question: Difficult relationship with my Dad. Why can't I look at him anymore?
Hi all. I don't really know what to do about my relationship with my Dad. I'm going to write what is currently on my mind, it'll be long but even if nobody bothers to read it it should still make me feel better to get it all off my chest. I'm 21 years old and both of my parents are still together. I also have a 23 year old brother. The problem is my relationship with my Dad. He has become such a mess and made so many mistakes over his life that I find it hard to even look at him anymore and I don't know what to do about it. Here is an overview of his problems: My Dad has always enjoyed his drink, but in the last couple of years he's taken it to a whole new level. He now goes to my local pub every single day without fail, and as soon as he returns home at about 6pm he'll open a bottle of red wine and drink it like it's holy water. We've all been monitoring his drinking for the last couple of weeks and we've seen him get through two bottles of red wine in one day at the weekend. He probably has about a bottle every night, that's after 3 pints of larger at the pub. If he runs out of red wine he'll start drinking vodka despite the fact that he hates it. He also smokes far too much, probably about 20 cigarettes a day. I haven't worked out how much he's spending on cigarettes and alcohol but it must easily be in excess of £5,000 a year, probably more like double that. We've found receipts and tabs from the local pub for £350+ a time and he often buys all of his buddies drinks, pretending to them that his business is successful and he has loads of money. In actual fact he is in debt and doesn't spend any money on his family (read below for more on that). His whole life basically resolves around drink, cigarettes and the local pub. He has no ambitions in life and despite turning 57 this year he has no plans to retire and no pension. I would find it easier to deal with if he has money, but he doesn't. He's been in debt constantly for as long as I can remember. He's lied to all of us on several occasions, the latest being just 2 years ago when he promised all of us that if we took out a mortgage on the house he would pay off all of his debts and renovate the house. What actually happened is we now have a half finished house and he is still in a lot of debt but now with the added mortgage repayments. We get letters and phone calls constantly from the the electricity, gas, phone and other companies asking for money. I've also counted three different credit card company's phone up asking after him, he's obviously in financial trouble but he'll never tell us what's really going on. The sad thing is that I can see us having to sell one or both of our properties (he's lucky to have inherited a lot from family over the years, which is the reason why he hasn't gone bankrupt yet). He is racist, sexist and homophobic. I'm sick of hearing him whining about immigrants taking over the country, etc. In reality he has no idea what is going on. I usually just have to bear it because I don't want to get into an argument when he's drunk, it's impossible to ever have a civilised conversation with him. I'm lucky to have a good head on my shoulders, otherwise I'd probably be believing this stuff. Last but not least, he treats my Mum like dirt. My mum is the most adorable, loving and caring person in the world. She's also very good looking, especially for her age, and she often gets successful men flirting with her. My dad is incredibly lucky to have her but he takes her for granted. He just uses her to clean the house and cook meals. He NEVER takes her out anywhere and he NEVER shows any affection towards her. I don't think that I have ever seen him kiss or hug her passionately in my entire life. He's constantly talks down to her and often makes her cry. I've had her in tears multiple times. However, he's always had a soft spot for me. He doesn't like my brother, but he's always been more supportive towards me than anyone else. This makes it very hard for me because I don't want to hurt him, but he's been an absolutely awful father. As much as it hurts me to say that, and as much as I love him, he has been awful and he has caused so much stress and upset in the family. The problem is that I can barely look at him in the eyes anymore, probably because he's caused so many problems and he's changed so much in the last 5 years that I barely recognise him sometimes. Why can't I look at him anymore? What does that mean? moreResolved Question: ???? How Does A Highschooler Work Her Way Up To This CAREER ?
I'm multi-talented and if i don't know how to do something, i'll do the work to understand it, and understand it fast. I want to be a script-writer, movie producer, movie director, and music composer for movies. Right now I'm in band, take theatre and business courses, I'm currently writing a script, participate in drama club, I'm planning on joining this years school play, and do over all research of film at home. In this career their is no second place, so i want to be the best i can possibly be. I've researched film programs at my local community collage, but they either are out of my age range or aren't what i'm looking for. Just 1 of a million problems?
My father saw the guy in the next building over and they stopped to chat and he was informed that the guy that lives upstairs from me approached the neighbor, pointed to my back window with two pots of Parsley and Sweet Basil/Oregano with a grow light that looks like this http://www.amazon.com/FA201HBCC-20-Inch-16-Watt-Fluorescent-Cabinet/dp/B000HJ75HA/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1281391060&sr=1-16 placed along the edge of the pot to help the basil/oregano to perk up after a transplant, and asked him if he thought we were "Growing Marijuana" in our back room. The pots were, literally, on the windowsill... And I live on the 1.5th floor, so you can see that it is Parsley and Basil FROM THE SIDEWALK! After I put the plants in the window, I put the grow light on a timer so that it would provide heat and light from dusk until dawn because my plants didn't like the transplant and were adjusting to their new environment... He CALLED MY FATHER AT WORK and told him that "Your daughter left a light on in the back room ALL NIGHT." As if is any of his business... and later cornered my father on his way out to again inform him that 'You have a light on...' He just won't leave us alone! Should I write him a letter telling him what is in my pots and that if the owner of the building (who is NOT him btw) wants to know what I am growing, I'll be happy to show him? Should I just try to ignore him? EVERYTHING we do is messed with or intruded upon by this guy that thinks he rules the world when he is just an old, mentally ill, Taxi Director at an airport... (He sits in the booth at the airport and makes sure that cabs don't jump the line or accept passengers before they reach the head of the queue yet talks about how he is "The head of" basically everything on airport property...) I didn't care if he touched my laundry... I didn't care if he touched our grill... I didn't care that he told me I should have ASKED HIM if I could put a mail pouch on my front door because the foam tape I used might have "Harmed the Door"... But now he is spreading rumors that we are doing something ILLEGAL!!! Luckily, before I even knew what he was going around saying, I got a Mylar Emergency Blanket and draped that over a shelf of a wire shelving unit in my den, used Velcro to hang my, now 2, grow lights to hang from the top, and placed the pots with my COOKING HERBS in there with a small fan for ventilation... So now you can't really see that there is any light at night, through the window... I put curtains on the one window but I have a poinsettia that needs the morning sun so I can't close it all off to keep out his prying eyes... How would you cope with a tard like this? WOW... It feels good to vent... But seriously... My lease isn't up for another year... We are already planning to move when the next year is up... But until then... What would you do in my place? moreResolved Question: Theatre acting as a profession, is it possible?
So my question is a little misleading--of course it IS possible, but I'm not sure about MY situation. I am a writer, and am going to school to major in creative writing, and then plan to possibly pursue my masters in the same thing. Writing isn't something that you can easily make a career and living out of, and what I want to do for a career has always been up in the air because of this. I have been lately contemplating my being in my middle school's drama department when I was young, and how much fun that was, and how great going to the theatre to see a drama is. Is it at all possible to get into acting theatre if it's not your 100%, be-all-end-all passion? This might be a stereotype or misconception, but it always seems that the acting business is a lot about connections, who you know, and how good you look on paper (talking about experience). Although I don't know much about theatre specifically, this is more what I get from film acting (which is NOT what I am talking about). Anyway, what I am basically asking is, do you think it would be manageable to become a thespian just through having studied it in college? I might consider a double major in performing arts or something of the sort, but I have very little actual experience, though I was told that I'm not at all bad at it, and I imagine myself to be quite good. moreResolved Question: What do you think of my storyline so far, and what do you think of my writing style?
When life gives you lemons… make lemonade. That’s what my dad always tells me when I’m stuck in a crappy situation. But to be honest, I don’t think that advice will work this one out. It feels as if I’ve been given rotten lemons, with no juice left in them, and there is just no point in making lemonade anymore. Only hours ago, I was packing for my summer vacation to France. Yes, France! You know, that country in Europe with the fashion capital of the world, and some of the most beautiful architecture ever created? Well anyways, I was happily packing away, minding my own business, when my dad knocks on my door. I was surprised by this because, to be honest, my dad and I never talk. He’s always busy on his laptop in his office, or he’s at work. It’s always one or the other. “Come in.” I said, wondering what in the world was it that he wanted to tell me. As soon as I saw the expression on his face, I knew it couldn’t be good. My dad always has one look on his face - plain, and bored. But at that moment, it was devastated. I wondered what on earth could have happened for my father to have been so sad. Millions of thoughts ran through my mind as I thought of all the possibilities. Did the fancy hotel that we were staying at in Paris burn down? Did our flight get cancelled? Turns out it was neither of those. It was much, much worse. “We’re not going to France, Anna.” he said with the most stern look I had ever seen. “What? W-w-why?” I asked, sadness sweeping over me. “I got a call from my brother last night. He asked us to visit our homeland for the summer because my grandmother is very ill, this might be our last chance to see her. We‘re going to Ukraine tomorrow.” My grandmother? Our homeland? Ukraine? I could not believe it. Moments ago, I was happily packing for France, and now I’ll be sadly packing for Ukraine? I know that I should have felt some sort of remorse for my great grandmother, maybe some guilt for not wanting to visit her, but I just couldn’t help but think how my birthday present which I had been planning for for months was ruined. This was not right. This was not what was supposed to happen. This was not the way my summer was going to turn out. No way, no how. “But dad! You promised we’d go to France. We’ve been planning to go for months now, and it is a birthday present after all. Ukraine isn’t even my homeland. I know nothing about the place, or the people! We can’t go for the entire summer, we just can’t.” I said stubbornly, trying to fight back. “Well then you can learn about the place and the people this summer. The decision is final, Anna. We’re going.” And with those words, my summer flipped around faster than you could say "France no more!". The airport was crowded when we got there. People were whizzing by carrying huge amounts of luggage and suitcases. I wondered where they were all going to spend their summer vacation. Definitely not Ukraine. Some people wore sunhats and flip flops, as if they were ready to jump on to the beach in some tropic place like Hawaii at the very second. I’ll admit, I was jealous of them. My plain capris and t-shirt definitely did not show any excitement towards where I’m going. My dad is holding a book straight up to his face, as if avoiding eye contact with me. His bony face looks tense and distraught. His short chestnut hair stands up straight and I know that if it grew out a little bit more it will be just as wavy as mine. To be honest, I love my hair. It’s very long and wavy with a golden tint in it from my mom. Another good thing about it is that it covers my chubby cheeks. I was “gifted” as my dad would say with permanent baby fat, just like my mom. My whole life everyone made fun of me because of it, but my dad says that they suit me. What a lie. I think that he said that because they remind him of my mom. She was a beautiful woman, and I will admit that chubby cheeks did suit her. The thing is, she died when I was only a few months old. It was in a car accident back in Ukraine. I think that’s why my dad decided to move to Canada in the first place - to forget the nightmare he lived through of my mom being gone. That’s also probably why we’ve never visited relatives back in our homeland. To be honest, my dad tries avoiding the country every chance he gets. But I guess this was just too much for him. moreResolved Question: Tax Tips for a Freelance Writing Business?
I am looking to start a freelance writing business, but am a little confused on how the process works as far as taxes go. For example, I plan to run my business by securing various projects, and working on whatever projects that I get. That said, I really have no guaranteed set monthly income or hourly rate. When I do get work, could I just use one of those online paycheck calculators, plug in my withholding numbers, and send in the amount that it says should be taken out for Federal, State, SS, etc. If so, I'm also confused on where it actually gets "sent to" and are there any special forms that I need? Also, being that I am just starting to establish my business and haven't earned a penny yet, what documentation should I get together to prove self-employment? I ask this because my COBRA is running out soon and I plan to apply for the State Children's Health Insurance program for my daughter, and the Adult version for me, and I know I need proof of income/employment. Once I start making some money, I plan to secure an accountant and an attorney to go over everything in detail, but I can't afford that now. Any guidance someone can give me on how to get started in this aspect is appreciated, as I want to do things the "right way." Thank you! moreResolved Question: I do some photography as a hobby business, granted I'll never get rich but it pays for...?
...itself......One thing I've never done is a wedding and never really planned to. Someone recently approached me about doing a small wedding to which I answered "no"... actually "hell no". They however weren't dissuaded . Why me you ask? Because they couldn't afford a full fledged wedding photographer with all the bells and whistles. I tentatively agreed if a buddy of mine (a highly trained and skilled photographer) would agree to do it with me. He was willing to come 120 miles and help me out for a measly 300 bucks.. a heck of a deal under any circumstances. But the new couple can't afford that, which I can also understand. I've agreed to do it at my hourly rate and give them a disk of untouched raw images, however, my buddy said I should have some sort of waiver written up expressing the fact that I am not a wedding photographer and express there is no guarantee to quality. So finally I get to my question. I'm terrible at writing up legal documents any ideas on how to word it? moreVoting Question: I'm wasting my time in College, how can I convince my parents to let me drop out and work?
I'm about to start my second year in College and I'm just dreading it. I faced depression during my first year which almost lead me to commit suicide, but I barely made it. I don't want to go through that again. I am passionate about a certain career field, it doesn't require a degree but its a very difficult business to break into. I've always wanted to write screenplays for children movies and television shows because they were very influential in my life when I was a kid. I just switched my major for the third time during my College Years and its been holding me back for a long time. I love working, especially in offices, I currently intern at a Career Center helping people write resumes and build good social skills for interviews. I'm planning on interning at another place, but I have to go through the interview first. That being said, my parents and others are dead set on making me stay in College unless I can make $800-$1000 a month. I'm actually planning a map guide for myself which lists several careers that don't require a degree but are but do require training. I actually thought of transferring but I soon realized that I felt the same way no matter what school I went to. I take therapy sessions both in my college and with another one, but neither are convincing me to stay. How can I convince my parents to let me drop out of college? moreResolved Question: is this biography good? i wrote it for a school assignment..?
Giorgio Armani was born on July 11th, 1934 in the northern Italian town of Piacenza. He attended public school and developed a love for theater and the cinema. Giorgio Armani had originally planned to study medicine, so he attended Milan University so he could become a doctor. Armani found his passion elsewhere, however: in photography. Therefore, Armani did not continue his studies in medicine and instead spent some time dabbling in photography. In 1957, at the age of 23, Armani fulfilled his military obligations with the Italian armed forces. After returning from the service, he took a job as a window dresser, merchandiser, and buyer for Milan’s well-known, prestigious department store, La Rinascente. He worked as an assistant photographer for a short time there, as well, and soon accepted a promotion to the store’s style office. In 1964, without any formal training in the world of fashion, Armani designed menswear for Nino Cerruti’s Hitman line. Armani’s close friend and business partner, Sergio Galeotti, encouraged him to leave Cerruti. More encouragement came his way from a person he knew through his sister, who proposed his name to an important fashion firm. Armani quit his job with Cerruti to start his fashion career: in 1970, he became a freelance fashion designer and consultant for many companies. He was successful because of the experience he had gained from his job at La Rinascente. There he had learned to focus on clean cuts and elegant styles. He had also learned about fashion from the many trips he had taken to England throughout the years. He gives a lot of credit to England as his main source of inspiration, saying, "It was virtually the most important centre for inspiration. I remember seeing some yellow cardigans in a small boutique and everyone thought I was insane. Yellow cardigans were what the Duke of Windsor was about; they were not something for the average man. The entire idea of such clothing was so outré, so elitist... Very, very English." These experiences resulted in an exceptionally rich and varied development of his style. Of course, he had a lot of natural talent, too, which had a great deal to do with how far he has come in the industry. In 1975, Armani and Sergio Galeotti started their own company called Giorgio Armani S.p.A. They also founded the Armani fashion label, which is known for its top quality male clothes, perfume, cosmetics, and even home décor (Armani Casa home interiors). That same year, with the help of his sister, Armani started a womenswear line. Since then, he has truly expanded the products in his line, which now includes his signature Giorgio Armani line, Giorgio Armani Privé, Armani Collezioni, Armani Underwear, Armani Junior, Armani Teen, Armani Baby, A/X Armani Exchange, Armani Accessories (shoes, bags, watches, eyewear, jewelry, and fragrances), Swimwear, and Occhiali. He has even created a line of off-field sportswear for an English football team. In 1981, Armani launched two lines of less expensive clothing, Emporio Armani and Armani Jeans. The success of his multiple labels led to the creation of the Armani makeup line later in 2000. In 1982, Armani became the first fashion designer to be on the cover of Time magazine since Christian Dior in the 1940s. Armani had become increasingly popular. He was one of the first designers to approach celebrities to wear his designs in 1988 (especially to events like the Academy Awards) and he gained many celebrity devotees through this. Some of Armani’s signature styles include the use of materials in unexpected contexts and combinations, such as the acclaimed leather bomber jackets he created that made leather seem like an everyday, casual fabric, which he showed in the 1974 Sala Bianca fashion show in Florence, and new interpretations of the traditional business suit: unstructured, relaxed designs for men and masculine styles for women. His clothing expresses a timeless elegance. His soft-shouldered suit silhouette is still a staple of modern designs. His signature style could be described as relaxed yet elegant, luxurious yet minimalist; it helped bring streamlined modernity and ease into late 20th century styles. Armani himself described his sense of fashion like this: “I was the first to soften the image of men, and harden the image of women. I dressed men in women's fabrics, and stole from men what women wanted and needed—the power suit.” Fashion critics rarely had anything bad to say about his androgynous approach. Armani has had a big influence on culture. In the 1980s, the Armani “power suit” for both men and women became a symbol of an era of international economic growth. Armani revolutionized fashion with his form of the unstructured jacket. Armani’s reputation grew further when he dressed Richard Gere in the 80s film American Gigolo. Today, Armani still wants his fashion to represent the type of clothing that can be worn on the streets; he wants it to be casual and arggh it's too long to fit...but is it good so far? moreResolved Question: I'm in desperate need of help! (10 POINTS)?
Below is a journal entry with all my feelings... I organized it into paragraphs so it'll be easier to read but seriously help me out. She respects her parents a lot and I don't know what to do. Best answer will get 10 points. Please try to be understanding. 16y.o. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Why me. Of all people this could happen to... why does it have to be me? The fact that she likes me too makes it worse. It's weird isn't it? Usually, when two people like each other, it should be a good thing and good things sprout from it, but apparently it isn't the case. I never knew having mutual feelings can be so... painful. I believe I try really hard to see her, even if it's just as a friend. That's what I think and feel when I'm at home. But when I get there, it hurts. It just, hurts. She's told me she likes me too, but there we are... standing awkwardly, her brother annoying the fuck out of me and her mom, the one who says she can't be in a relationship, awkwardly watching me. Her parents apparently want to talk to me. I call, I try pretty hard to see her, and that's all that happens. Perhaps if I didn't say anything about liking her, or hinting it. Perhaps the friendship would still be there, and we would still be able to have conversations. So there I was, at the park. The sun was cooking me to the bone. I wait, and wait. I was prepared for her parents to talk to me, and I was ready to handle whatever they were to throw at me. I hyperventilated, panicked, and worried, only to find out that her father, the other parent who doesn't want her in a relationship yet, cares more about washing his new car. They see me as nothing perchance. Someone who isn't worthy so much so that he doesn't even bother. If it's to work out with no kind of intervention in trying to change her parents' mind, 10 years. 10 years to just date, not marriage. So for those 10 years, what the hell is going to happen? Waiting 10 years to go out with someone. The most funny thing about this whole waiting business is that I haven't even felt how it feels like to be her "boyfriend". How do I know what I'm looking forward to in 10 years? It's almost the same as paying $1 000 000 to buy an unknown cardboard box. I expect something awesome, but in the end, who knows? So what am I to do. I really like her but this is killing me. If she didn't like me, things would be so much easier. She would've rejected me, I would've felt like shit for a day or two and then I'd be all better hopefully. But now, I know she likes me (so she says) and nothing is going to happen. I've tried everything, Yahoo!Answers, asking friends. I don't know what I'm going to do. We don't attend the same school yet, and I'm planning on transferring just for her. But what's going to happen? Every time I see her, the first thing I want to do is tell her how I feel. I want to be able to hold her without feeling guilty. I want to be able to LIKE her without feeling guilty. Her parents dislike the fact that we talk on the phone so much. But what else can I do besides call? Her mom doesn't let her on the computer. I can only talk with her over the phone, but even this upsets her mom. What does her mom want? Sometimes, I don't even know how much she likes me. Maybe I'm just sensitive but it seems like it doesn't matter to her. I ask her if she's going to go to the park and when, she says maybe or I don't know. Wouldn't you push and ask for permission if you really wanted to? That's the only time we see each other by the way. Is it just me? Am I being stupid for biking 40 minutes to see her, only for whatever I wrote above to happen? I'm calling on my watchers, hopefully you... humans... read this and give me your advice. What do I do? I think about her all the time and when the reality that nothing is going to happen strikes, I feel like I just got shot down. Someone please tell me what to do. Anything is helpful. moreResolved Question: I have lots of time on my hands now that Im FIRED. and have started a new business My problem is...?
