Open Question: Is Bank of America really that horrible?
I will start by saying that I do not bank with BoA, nor do I plan to bank with them, I only ask out of curiosity. I have always heard horror stories about them, for at least a decade. Insane rate hikes without informing customers. Rate hikes for using your credit card too much and using it too little. Bad customer service, fees that could not be explained, or taken care of. Bad customer service over the phone and in the local bank (witnessed such an event the other day when I went into get a letter notarized). There is of course, the more famous events such as foreclosing the wrong house despite knowledge before hand that it was the wrong house. I hear some people defense that it's just because it's a larger bank that the percentage of complaints to actual customers is low. But from my stand point it sounds more like greed and incompetence. I'm an adamant follower of capitalism, but greed and incompetence isn't something promoted by capitalism, it's just promoted by bad people. I checked out several customer rating sites and they all gave BoA a horrible rating. The argument on that may be that only disgruntled customers rate, however my own bank had great ratings and great reviews so I do believe a bank taking care of its customers will receive a fair trial, so to speak, on rating sites. On the flip side of that the Better Business Bureau gave BoA a standing ovation on its review. I guess, again just for my own curiosity, I would just like to know what is the real deal with BoA. A well thought out or insightful answer would be appreciated. I do not mention my own bank because I do not want someone to feel I am promoting it. Without mentioning my own bank I will say I have been with them for 5 years and not once had a single problem as far as banking. I think you should judge a company by the number of problems they have as well as how quickly and efficiently they fix said problems. So as far as fixing a problem I could not judge my own bank. They have however, always informed me when they would be decreasing or increasing my rates and kept me just as well informed on new banking practices and any changes to my accounts. I graduated with a degree in IT engineering from one of the tier 2 university in India in 2009. After studying 4 years of engineering, I realized that I am not interested working much into technology as working on the business side. So i made up mind, and after a long gap of over 6 months I chose to work with one of the one of the Big 4 (E&Y, KPMG, Deloitte, PWC) in their Risk Advisory services. As I was more keen on getting broader business experience before pursuing a full time career in any industry & becoming an expert in that field, so I started doing research about Strategy Consulting and dreaming working in MCKinsey/BCG/ Bain. I tried for above three and a few other but all in vain, as I relaized it is highly impossible to get into these companies with such low grades and no work experience (my GPA is average). As i had no jobs from IT companies in hand & also it was not possible to get one in good companies with decent packages due to low grades, I managed to get my a job from one of the Big 4 for their Risk Advisory services. Here my work revolves around AUTOMOBILE/MANUFACTURING companies, where I help my team members in creating Standard Operating Procedures, Internal Audit and formatting word documents & PPT in Microsoft office Suite. As I have very less interest in programming and my programming skills are also average, I took up this job which pays me over $300 a month. Most of the people in my team are Chartered Accountants except for my manager who is an MBA graduate and has a Mechanical Engineering degree. Also I came to that people working at this designation as me (Analyst) are mostly 99.99% commerce graduates . My future plans is to pursue an MBA from an international B-school, I am not expecting to get an admit in to Harvard or London Business school but I am aiming for an globally recognized institute. I took up this job because I thought the name of Big 4 on my resume would fill in the gaps due to poor academic performance during engineering. About a week ago i broke my phone's screen. It was a T-Mobile G1. Yesterday night i called T-Mobile customer service to order a new phone. I ordered the T-Mobile Sidekick LX 2009. That phone comes with unlimited text messages and internet. I am suppose to get it in about 7 business days (without holidays and weekends) So this morning I got the G1 phone and I tried to go on the internet with it like how i always do. But this morning it sent me to the Web2Go Page. It said my device is not compatible with my current plan. it gave me the option to view my plan. Under the internet option it said that i have "Sidekick Unlimited Web Browsing" Does this mean i can't use the internet with my G1? do i have to wait till i get the Sidekick and insert my sim card into it for the internet to work? ?? Logically, a salon who offers walk-in services will turn away a certain percentage of business simply because walk-in business all tends to come at the same time for some reason. Also, the salon cannot over staff to accommodate ALL walk-in business. Can you explain the basic differences between the US schooling/uni system and VCE/Australian? Hi, I am currently in year 11 in VCE, and am really interested in applying to an American uni when it comes time for it - most likely one in the northern California region. Ah, sorry, I really didn’t plan in writing an essay :/ Would love it if you could take a few minutes though, but entirely up to you ;) If you cbf reading, just chuck in a quick reply based on what it says in the title :) So in Australia, we have: Years 7-12 Year 11 & 12 you do VCE, and in year 12 we do the SACs and exams and get our study scores, and then the ENTER, and I believe uni preferences are around August in Year 12. My questions about the USA system: What are the equivalents to the USA senior, sophomore and junior years? From what I see, junior is year 10? When do US students take the SAT/ACT? When would I need to take it? Will my VCE count towards uni entrance in the USA? Will any other school results (e.g. year 11) count? How would the VCE score be converted to a US score? What time do US students start uni? I heard from someone that it is the equivalent to half a year after year 12 ends - so in a sense i may get a 6 month 'gap year' before US University? Any tips as to what subjects I should be doing? I moved out of my mom's house and in with my dad a couple of years ago, at first he didn't like it, but we recently moved to a tiny village and into a townhouse from an apartment in a big city, and he's become dependent on me to run the house. He's retired and works part time at a golf course. I cook our meals, do the dishes, do the laundry, clean the house, make his lunches, etc. I pay him rent (though not as much as if I were living alone) and buy my own groceries. I have a cat who he's grown to love, and I pay for all her necessities/medical bills myself. We've been living in this town since January, and it's been impossible for me to find a job. I'm been receiving EI, while still emailing all over the place and repeatedly calling and handing in resumes to nearby businesses. I'm nineteen and am three credits shy of receiving my high school diploma, but am working towards it through online courses. Before we moved, I had a job at a grocery store as a customer service rep, where I was a valued employee and left on great terms with the owner of the store and all my managers- basically, if I ever need a job, they'd higher me back in a blink lol. I also had a job offer as a server, but had to turn it down as I was moving. The topic came up about me moving out today, as my dad loves it here (he's a loner) and I've become depressed, and he would want to move into a small apartment when the lease is up (next Jan) or a little after. Of course he said he wasn't trying to push me out, but strongly implied that he'd like to move into a smaller place within a certain time frame, and it would be better for me to move back to the bigger town since I have job opportunities, friends, and the option to go to school. I've used all my savings to pay him rent while I haven't had a job, and I don't have any appliances or anything. April 23 (Bloomberg) -- Former Moody’s Investors Service and Standard & Poor’s employees said they were excluded from assessing mortgage bonds if they questioned Wall Street’s conclusions and that credit-rating companies focused on protecting business at the expense of accurate grading. Richard Michalek, a former managing director in Moody’s structured products derivatives group, told the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations at a hearing today that managers said he was “not welcome on deals” involving certain banks. Eric Kolchinsky, who led the Moody’s group that rated collateralized debt obligations made up of mortgage bonds, said he was berated by his boss when the company lost business after implementing more conservative ratings. S&P wrongly concluded that its increasing profits amid an inflated U.S. housing market was based on “superior management skill and insight,” said Frank Raiter, a former managing director at the company. In reality, regulators had made the firm part of “an oligopoly” by requiring investors to hold assets it rated, Raiter said. Public pension funds blame Moody’s and S&P for helping cause the global financial crisis by giving top rankings to mortgage-linked securities that blew up when the U.S. housing market collapsed in 2007. The Senate panel concluded after an 18-month probe that the firms were too influenced by Wall Street, had insufficient resources and used outdated models to grade mortgage securities. Alright, I have just finished my sophmore year in highschool. I have been researching majors, colleges, and careers. I think I am interested in pursuing international business, as I am interested in cultures, languages, economics, and business ventures. I want to go to a college that offers this major, has study abroad opportunites, I want to travel to France and Spain during my college years, maybe other places if possible. I am interested in learning French and Spanish, as I am pretty decent at Japanese and still have another two years in high school taking it. I think after learning these three languages I will study Italian and Chinese on the side with my prior knowledge of languages in the same region. I recieved a 4.0 for my freshmen year, and I have goten 4.0+ for my sophmore year. In the next two years I am going to be taking the International Bachloreate program at my school, I will be on the Diploma. This means I will be taking higher level classes, many IB and AP classes. I am advanced in math, and I succeed in science classes. I am decent in english, and I find history very interesting. I also am talented in technology, and I think technology is a very interesting subject as well. I will be spending summers doing community service projects and practicing for the SAT/ACT, as I want to get my scores up to 650(sat) at least in all sections. Next year I plan to participate in NHS and student council in my senior year, I will also be joining some clubs to get my extra curriculars up. I happen to be familiar with our nation's history, so I remember that it was the government that recognized "property" in slaves, that passed fugitive slave "laws," and that passed Jim Crow laws (that is, forced segregation laws, which violate freedom of association just as much as forced integration laws). Furthermore, had the government not passed forced segregation or forced integration laws, the market would have likely ended most discrimination much faster. When a business refuses to hire the most qualified employee or to sell to a willing customer, that business loses money. Competent businessmen do not like to lose money (one famous example of a business voluntarily integrating itself would be baseball during the 1940s and 1950s, as baseball teams wanted to find the best possible players; another businessman who integrated his business in the 1930s was future Senator Barry Goldwater, who would later vote against the "Civil Rights" forced integration Act of 1964 for the same reasons that the Pauls probably would have voted against it). The only result of government passing "safety" standards higher than what would be voluntarily agreed to on the free market is a decrease in wages compared to what they would have been in the absence of such a policy (unions are also self-defeating, as they lower the productivity of labor and thus wages, while taking a substantial portion of the paychecks of the workers for this "service"). Republicans who refuse to stand up to the politically correct smears of the loony left are suffering from a lack of nerve. I am certain that most Americans are sick and tired of the left crying "racism," or "sexism," or "homophobia" whenever anybody dares to advocate conservative policies. After letting him go in early May, he brought this information to my attention. His dad was asking for $500 for the referrals, his 23 year old son asked for $300, but I paid him $170. I paid him $50 more for leads to regular customers. He still claims I owe him more and he did not want to review documentation that shows I only owe him for $120 based on phone records and new customers which are listed on my work schedule. This is a unique concept that is scarce in Belgium. And absolutely not to be found in Leuven, where we are located.
