Resolved Question: Question about credit score and history..?

I am a 24 year-old student who has a few questions regarding my credit score and history My credit score is 670 (I know, not great, lol) I have an auto loan that I have had for 2 years and have never missed a payment I have had one credit account for about 6 years (Dell) and have never missed a payment I have 5 other credit/financing cards (1 visa, 1 mastercard, and 3 company financing cards). All of which I have never missed a payment on over the 3 years I have had them However, my credit score has been slightly declining over the last year. I know that it is because I am close to maxed out on a few of the cards and the remaining cards have a high percentage of used credit limit. The recession hit me and my family hard and the credit cards I did have helped me through some rough times and now I am trying to get back on top of the game. I am also taking out federal student loans for school. Not a lot, only for part of room and board. I will be making a decent amount of money from my job and I will be in better financial shape overall this year. I will be able to pay off 75% of all of my credit card debt over the next year....If I only have a 20% usage over all of my credit cards and remain paying my car payment every month while I take this year of extra money I have and pay those credit lines down 75%....How fast will that affect my score if I only use my cards minimally to just keep the credit cycle going? Will the paying a significant amount of my credit lines be an immediate improvement? Also, I am getting back a little extra money from my FAFSA and I have extra money from my student loan...would it be better to just use that money to help pay those credit lines faster?..The interest rates are way lower on those and it will be more consolidated Or, if you have any idea on the best way to help my situation, just add your opinions...Don't forget, I am a student...so student loans are an option too =) ...Thank you more

Resolved Question: Is my workout inefficient or are there other problems present?

I'm 16 years old and for the last year I have been going three times a week to the gym. There I always use the treadmill (5 km) before using the weightlifting machines for about an hour and work every upper body muscle (lower and upper back, neck, shoulders, arms, abdominal, and pectorals). I have never worked out with dumbbells and such, people told me these could be detrimental as I am still growing. Before becoming member at the gym I had been doing karate for seven years and kickboxing for half a year. But I have never seen an actual improvement in my physique. I got problems with bloating, so basically I have always had a bloated stomach all my live (it sounds serious; I'm planning on going to the doctor), which means that I look really fat, but have a perfect BMI and the body fat percentage at 'athlete'-level. I've always eaten healthy, never smoked, never taken any drugs, I don't even drink. I'm 6''2 and weight about 150 pounds. Any tips?Yes, I'm trying to gain mass more

Resolved Question: Bilogical Psychology- need help from a genius!!?

Hi, I'm really sorry about the very long question. I desperately need help with my assignment questions I keep getting stuck on these questions. If someone can help me that would be great. The person that can help will get ten points. And Thank you for your help in adavance! It has been suggested that cell adhesion molecules could play an important role in the formation of new synapses and dendritic spines in the brain, and thus could be of importance in enhancing memory, especially in aged humans and other animals. An approach used to investigate this idea has been to develop synthetic cell adhesion molecules, tailored to act just like natural cell adhesion molecules. One of the most promising of these molecules has been given the code ‘FGL’. Before trialling FGL in humans, the molecule’s effect on learning was tested via intravenous injection in aged (22-month old) rats. As suspected, there was marked improvement in a number of learning indices; for example, memory was improved in the rats by almost 50% in a test lasting several days. In order to investigate the cellular basis of these improvements a further series of experiments examined the effect of FGL on the hippocampus, since this brain region is known to play a critical role in memory formation (Book 1, p. 105). The following measurements were recorded. . Volume of the dorsal part of the hippocampus, and of a sub region known as the dentate gyrus. (Volume was taken as an index of the size of the hippocampus.) . Synapse density of the dentate gyrus, as a measure of whether synaptogenesis (formation of new synapses) had been stimulated. . The percentages of the two major types of dendritic spines – mushroom and thin spines – in the hippocampus. (It is believed that mushroom spines are ‘learning spines’ involved in memory formation.) Data from these experiments are shown in Tables 1–3, together with p values; note that the null hypothesis was rejected at p < 0.05. Table 1 Effect of FGL on volume of the dorsal portion of the hippocampus of aged (22-month old) rats; data are expressed as mean ± SD. Dendritic spine type FGL-treated rats/% Control rats/% p value FGL-treated rats vs control rats Mushroom spines 13 9 0.01 Thin spines 75 83 0.001 Questions (a) The data in Tables 1 and 2 is in the form of a mean and standard deviation (SD) of the results. With reference to the values in Table 2, explain what is meant by the term standard deviation, and what SD tells us about the distribution of a set of data. (b) The data in Tables 1–3 allow comparison of the means of each group; these have been tested with a t-test and then a p value has been given in each case. What do the data in Tables 1 and 2 show in respect of the effect of FGL on the volumes of: (i) the dorsal hippocampus and dentate gyrus, and; (ii) synapse density in the dentate gyrus? (c) What do the data in Table 3 show in respect of the effect of FGL on the percentages of the two spine types in the hippocampus of aged rats? (d) How far do the results shown in Tables 1–3 support the information given about cell adhesion molecules in the opening paragraph of this question? Do the results support the statement made later that the mushroom spines are ‘learning spines’?Thank you very much Helena! After reading your answer and then spending two days pouring over the sections on SD, varience and mean, I have finally understood enough to answer the questions. Many Thanks....from biological psychology wanna be major!! :-)) more

Resolved Question: Isn't the market good for New homebuyers? and just what is "Critical but stable" as following article says?

We're not talking about someone in ICU. Seems to me that as far as foreclosures are concerned, "stable" means the same as "critical" and "critical" means the same as "stable." Don't they? NEW YORK - Foreclosure activity fell in April as lenders repossessed homes at a record pace but started far fewer new actions against struggling homeowners, signaling a plateau in loan failures, RealtyTrac said on Thursday. No meaningful improvement is likely this year, however, with mortgage modifications and high unemployment only delaying the inevitable for most of these borrowers, the Irvine, California-based real estate data company said But nationwide April foreclosure filings -- notice of default, scheduled auction and bank repossession -- fell 9 percent from March and 2 percent from a year ago. "What we're really seeing is the effect of lenders slowing down the initial notices of default while they are processing what's already in the pipeline," Rick Sharga, senior vice president at RealtyTrac, said in an interview. Lenders filed default notices on 103,762 properties in April, down 12 percent in the month and 27 from a record 142,000 one year ago. Banks, meantime, took control of 92,432 properties in the month, a record, up 1 percent from March and 45 percent from a year earlier. With notices on 333,837 properties, one in every 387 U.S. housing units got a foreclosure filing in April. Critical, but stable "The housing market is still in critical condition but is stable," Sharga said. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I'm seeing more and more homes abandoned, in foreclosure, or auctioned off in the state of New Jersey. Despite that those with adequate funds are purchasing homes, a large percentage are still losing their homes. What is the situation in your neighborhood? more

Resolved Question: questions about marajuana (pot)?

*** now before you guys read this question, im telling you that all the choices i made were my decision, and my friends did not pressure me in any way into trying them, so please answer respectfully, and don't yell at me for experimenting **** Ok, so here is the deal, im currently 14 and a half, 5'7 and 130 pounds. im very "in shape" im on the track team, and i really try to get my grades up, now harder than ever actually... so anyways, a little more than a month ago, i rememberd my friend saying "hey im not pressuring you into this, but, i want to try weed some time" i also wanted to try weed but never really had a chance to, back then i was suffering from EXTREME anxiety of going into public, all throughout school, i couldnt look up as i walked down the hallway because i would feel awkward and sick to my stomach, so i coulnt even come into contact with a dealer in the first place, i was able to get help with the help and am now medicated and can live a normal, fullfilling life. i have made extreme improvements, and it seems like i have started a whole new life for myself. i feel great (despite the fact that my grades are slipping). ****oh yea im in 9th grade by the way****. so basicly my friend said he wanted to try it like 4 months ago, and now that i could obtain some, i remember him saying he wanted to try it, and brought it about casually in a conversation. He said he was still "down" to try it. so i went out and got some (one gram to be exact) so i got 3 friends together and we smoked up. i felt it in about a minute, i went down the street to steal a lighter from my sister after ours ran out, and i just started laughing at a rock!!!!!!!!!! like legit i was laughing hystericaly at a rock! everything was fun after that, i was happy and felt like i was floating. so anyways i have done it 2 more times sense then. and i no longer feel temped to smoke it, i was never addicted, and excuse me for using this comparison, but i couldn't think of any other one. Basicly the first time i smoked weed was like the first time i jacked off, i just wanted to do it again and again, after that the temptation dies down. and it has. but im putting this question up for some answers, so what i want to know is, what percentage of kids move from weed on to stronger drugs like inhalents and such, because i dont want to do those EVER. I only drink and smoke weed, and by drink i mean get between very tipsy, and lightly drunk about once a month, and i smoke marajuana like 2 or three times a month. Now i think thats pretty respectfull ammount, nothing really endangering there right? (correct me if im wrong) im just a teenager, looking for some fun with my friends. i dont think its necessary to use drugs and alchohol to have fun while with friends, im the creative type so i dont need drugs to keep me entertained. my pal's and i just do weed and drink from time to time on occasion just to pass a little time. i wanted to know if im begining to start some very unhealthy habbits, or if its ok to be doing what i do, i dont feel that the substances i use are affecting any other part of me, im still sudius, still into sports, i like to hang out with friends, im still attatched to my family. how do you guys feel about smoking marajuana? what age did you start? and did you feel the same way i did after the first time i started? (again sorry for that poor thought of comparison lol) so what do you guys think? REMEMBER to please not yell at me and tell me to kick the stuff unless you have experienced an addiction yourself and it ruined your life, in which case i would prefer not to take the path you did and i will stop. tell me what you gys think! more

Voting Question: People who think Brandon Jennings should have won Rookie-of-the-Year...?

The main argument I hear is "Jennings led the Bucks to the playoffs, so he deserved the ROY award over Tyreke Evans." And a lot of people have said that. Isn't that ignoring the fact that: 1) It shouldn't be a surprise that the Bucks saw the postseason. They had 34 wins last year, so they were already in a good position to contend for a playoff spot in the pathetic eastern conference. 2) Milwaukee's degree of improvement doesn't necessarily eclipse that of the Kings. The Bucks improved from 34 wins last to 46 wins while the Kings went from 17 wins last season (worst in the league) to 25. If you're looking at winning percentage alone, Sacramento made the bigger improvement. 3) Jennings did not "lead" his team into the playoffs; he rode the John Salmons train into it. Milwaukee was 24-28 before they got John Salmons. After Salmons arrived, they went 22-8 for the rest of the regular season. The Salmons-less Bucks were on pace to miss the playoffs even in the pathetic Eastern Conference. If anyone took the Bucks to the postseason, it was Salmons. 4) Jennings is a 37% shooter... that's not just bad for a starting point guard, that's bad for any NBA player. That's terrible even for a rookie. 5) The award is for individual merit, not how good the rookie's team is. Because the best rookies are almost always drafted by the worst teams in the league, it's almost impossible for most of the best rookies to make the playoffs their first season. 6 of the last 7 ROY winners did not make the playoffs their rookie year. Lebron James and Chris Paul didn't. The only one who did was Derrick Rose. more

Resolved Question: How long would it take to lose 15 lbs with my diet plan?

I'm a 16 year old girl, I weigh 130 lbs (last time I checked at least) and I'm barely 5'2". My body fat percentage is about 32%. Although I know I SOUND really chunky looking, I'm not that fat, some of my weight is from muscle. I have some extra fat on my inner thighs, my stomach (including love handles O_o) and my butt, especially my butt. I definitely have some muscle tone in my stomach, I see a tiny bit, but there's too much fat covering it, and there's some muscle tone in my thighs too, but again, too much fat. There's no fat on my calves, or at least very very little, so I'm fine with them, and my arms are pretty decent too. My goal is to lose 15 lbs, a few inches off my measurements (37-29-39) and lower my fat percentage to about 20% (I dunno what number is good or realistic) Ever since I really started trying to lose weight, I have eaten alot more fruits and veggies and nuts and stuff (I'm a vegetarian, so I don't eat meat or fish for that matter), but I still had some room for improvement. E.G - Every time I'd eat a tablespoon of peanut butter on either toast or a banana, I'd measure out a tablespoon, and then I'd eat way to much more afterward, and I did that everyday, I'd eat like Ritz crackers with peanut butter or something either with lunch, or my evening snack (which at the time was light popcorn, but is now going to be fruit) or when I'd be deciding what to eat, I'd munch on a large handful of almonds, and then after the meal I'd eat more. To improve my diet, I'm gonna HONESTLY eat only one tablespoon of peanut butter, maybe every other day, I'm gonna cut out the crackers completely, and I'm gonna eat only a serving of almonds once a day (I might eat half a serving with one meal and the other half with a different) So, this is basically my diet for everyday: (there are a few options for each meal) Breakfast #1: One egg with onion and mustard, and one banana with a tablespoon of peanut butter and one glass of green tea #2: One cup of cheerios with cinnamon and one half cup of skim milk, one banana or an apple with either peanut butter (banana) or cinnamon (apple) and green tea #3: One package of unsweetened oatmeal with one cup of frozen blueberries and another piece of fruit on the side, and a glass of green tea #4: Maybe two eggs and a small banana? (I dunno if that's too much food or not) Snack between breakfast and lunch: A yoplait light yogurt Lunch #1: A sandwich on whole wheat bread with lettuce, tomato, onion and mustard, with some strawberries and grapes on the side, with another glass of green tea, and possibly some almonds #2: A fruit salad (usually one banana, 6 strawberries chopped up, various amount of grapes, a cup of frozen blue berries and maybe an apple) with a few almonds and maybe another yogurt, depends on if I'm hungry still Snack between lunch and dinner: I usually don't have one because my dad would get mad if I ate then (personal crap, don't ask) Dinner #1: A medium-sized baked potato with a tablespoon of salsa for some flavor and some fruit to go with it #2: A salad with lettuce, tomato, onion and a serving of frozen mixed vegetables and some fruit to go with it And my evening snack: Probably a piece of fruit and another glass of green tea Through the whole day I usually drink about 4 liters of water After school, I do 45 minutes of cardio, and the routine is usually 35 minutes on my exercise bike and 10 minutes on the treadmill, (i do mild interval training with that....it's not really planned out, I just run really fast for 30 seconds when I feel like it, usually at 5 times during the whole ten minutes) and right now, I'm building up some endurance on the treadmill, so the cardio workout is gonna change some (I'm gonna do this 6 days a week - the day I take off is the day I go shopping and stuff where I usually walk for 3 hours) And then after dinner I do a half hour routine with exercises like walking lunges and plie squats (for the big butt), crunches, some push ups, sit-ups, some pilate exercises (mostly ab ones) just exercises like that....and usually a straight 5 - 10 minutes of jump rope or some sort of cardio. I'm gonna do this routine probably about 5 times a week. And after I get done with that, I eat an evening snack so I'm not hungry for the rest of the night. I'm also planning on either walking for a half an hour or dancing or doing some other activity around the time I'm usually sitting on the computer, but it just varies because my dad is usually asleep right below me, so I don't want to disturb him. One last thing, I understand that when you lose weight, you can't just lose the weight and then stop exercising and eating healthy, I plan on making this a lifestyle change. So, does this sound good to anyone? Will I lose 15 lbs in maybe two months? more

(I dunno if that's too much food or not) Snack between breakfast and lunch: A yoplait light yogurt Lunch #1: A sandwich on whole wheat bread with lettuce, tomato, onion and mustard, with some strawberries and grapes on the side, with another glass of green tea, and possibly some almonds #2: A fruit salad (usually one banana, 6 strawberries chopped up, various amount of grapes, a cup of frozen blue berries and maybe an apple) with a few almonds and maybe another yogurt, depends on if I'm hungry still Snack between lunch and dinner: I usually don't have one because my dad would get mad if I ate then (personal crap, don't ask) Dinner #1: A medium-sized baked potato with a tablespoon of salsa for some flavor and some fruit to go with it #2: A salad with lettuce, tomato, onion and a serving of frozen mixed vegetables and some fruit to go with it And my evening snack: Probably a piece of fruit and another glass of green tea Through the whole day I usually drink about 4 liters of water After school, I do 45 minutes of cardio, and the routine is usually 35 minutes on my exercise bike and 10 minutes on the treadmill, (i do mild interval training with that....it's not really planned out, I just run really fast for 30 seconds when I feel like it, usually at 5 times during the whole ten minutes) and right now, I'm building up some endurance on the treadmill, so the cardio workout is gonna change some (I'm gonna do this 6 days a week - the day I take off is the day I go shopping and stuff where I usually walk for 3 hours) And then after dinner I do a half hour routine with exercises like walking lunges and plie squats (for the big butt), crunches, some push ups, sit-ups, just exercises like that....and usually a straight 5 - 10 minutes of jump rope or some sort of cardio. Oh, and my green tea has NO calories or sugar. more

Resolved Question: Does anyone think this will work to lose some weight?

I'm a 16 year old girl, I weigh 130 lbs (last time I checked at least) and I'm barely 5'2". My body fat percentage is about 32%. Although I know I SOUND really chunky looking, I'm not that fat, some of my weight is from muscle. I have some extra fat on my inner thighs, my stomach (including love handles O_o) and my butt, especially my butt. I definitely have some muscle tone in my stomach, I see a tiny bit, but there's too much fat covering it, and there's some muscle tone in my thighs too, but again, too much fat. Resolved Question: How does my diet look? Does it need tweaking?

Well I am trying to lower my body fat percentage and gain muscle mass for a toned effect. I also wouldn't mind having strength, endurance and building up some strong and visible abs :) I am a 5'4 girl who weighs 133lbs, size 8/10. Measurements 34-29-35 and my fitness levels are pretty high. Just wondering about my diet, if it could do with work. Any pro's advice is welcome, I don't want people telling me I need to be eating lettuce, special K and I am not skipping meals. Weights 60 minutes 3 times a week. Running 20-30 minutes 3 times a week. Sunday- Rest. Today's diet is typical, advice welcome! Breakfast: 40g porridge made with water, 1 tablespoon of peanut butter, 1 banana and a scoop of whey protein. Lunch: Tuna salad made with one can of tuna, salsa for taste but no dressing. A handful of dried dates. 30 minute run. Snack: A scoop of whey protein with milk, 100g low fat yogurt, 1 apple, 1 tsp peanut butter and a small handful of raisins. Dinner: 100g chicken with carrots, broccoli and salsa to taste. I drink plenty of water but just wondering whether anyone has improvements. The calories average out to about 1500. Thanks! more

Resolved Question: Why do people keep claiming that our taxes have gone up?

Under Obama's administration, at least 95% of families got a tax reduction. A look at the numbers tells the story. For starters: the non-partisan Center for Budget and Policy Priorities reported on Wednesday that "Middle-income Americans are now paying federal taxes at or near historically low levels." How low? The average family of four right now is paying 4.6 percent of its income in federal income taxes -- the second lowest percentage in 50 years. A report from the White House Council of Economic Advisers, meanwhile, asserts that the president's economic stimulus package has sent more than $200 billion in tax relief and other benefits to mainly middle- and lower-income families since its passage. Citizens for Tax Justice, a self-described non-partisan organization, released a report on Tuesday that read: "The 2009 economic stimulus bill actually reduced federal income taxes for tax year 2009 for 98 percent of all working families and individuals." This total includes the 95 percent of working families that will or have received tax credits in the range of $400 to $800. The health care bill passed by the administration, meanwhile, includes a tax credit that could cover up to 35 percent of the premiums a small business pays to insure its workers. The Recovery Act, meanwhile, included such tax breaks as a $1,500 credit for home energy improvements, and an $8,000 credit for first-time home buyers. It has been a buffet of tax breaks and credits offered by this administration (occasionally to the chagrin of progressive economists, who want more focus on stimulative federal spending). Yet polling numbers indicate that Americans are barely aware of these developments. Indeed, a good chunk of the country believes it has been saddled by this administration with tax hikes. Back in mid-February, a full 24 percent of respondents to a CBS News/New York Times poll said that their taxes had increased under Obama. Fifty-three percent said they had stayed the same. Only 12 percent thought their taxes had gone down. more

Resolved Question: Buying an Old Home In Need to Repair. What percentage of Home's Value safe to invest in Repairs/Improvements?

Looking at an old home (1890) in a historic district. The price of a home is a steal, income property of probably $1,300 a month. I have put some contingencies in my offer-not bank owned, but how much money is safe to dump into the house? Most the houses in the neighborhood have already been restored, but vary in value from 150,000 to 350,000+. The house needs: landscaping, minor interior remodeling/painting appliances, siding, termite extermination, and/or structural reinforcement of floor joists (this ones a probably a big $20,000, but hopefully less) The house is on the market of $75,000 Thanks, -jakeits a 2 unit, 2,100 sq ft place. I actually have plenty of time to own the property, no need to flip it. In the next 3-4 years, I'm confident I could get $180,000. Depending if i can qualify for an FHA loan, (bring big trouble at inspection time), I would be more comfortable with borrowing money for improvements, but if it requires me to get a standard loan, ill need to get 20% for a down payment. If I can get the money, is there a rule of thumb on how much to pour in based on the homes value?I should also mention, I will be living there with roommates. And the intention is for my family and I to sell the place and contribute to paying my student loans more

Resolved Question: Can any of the following be a tax write-off?

In California: --payments made to a psychiatrist and psychologist (no health insurance, paid directly to them) Do I need to get receipts from them or does my canceled checks satisfy as evidence? ---Homeowner's association dues ---homeowner's insurance ---home security alarm payment ---home improvement costs such as replacing floor, repair garbage disposal etc. ---car maintenance costs if it has to do with work like gas, oil (if someone has to drive for work to go to clients etc.) Another question if anyone knows is, what percentage of mortgage payment interest can be written off? If someone pays 50,000 in interest alone (and got the receipt from the lender), of that 50K, how much can be knocked off the income (if it works that way) All these years I never knew how to do tax write offs and have paid more tax than my share so am trying to figure things out. more

Resolved Question: How do you help a dog with fear?

We adopted a dog and she is scared of a lot of things. If we use out toaster oven she will not enter the kitchen for weeks. We have a house fan and if it is windy or the windows are open then it rattles and she will freak out. These are a small percentage of the things she is scared of. She will hide in the bathtub if any of these things make noise. How can I train her so that she will not be scared of these things? It has been about 1 1/2 years since we got her and she has made some huge improvements, but she is still scared of so much. more

Resolved Question: Should I Join Facebook? Why and Why not?

I have received quite a few emails from people I know requesting me to view their pictures or profile on FB.When I click on the link to try and view them I am taken to a FB page informing me that I must sign-up for a FB account to view the pictures or profile. I don’t care to become a FB member so I politely email the person back informing them that I can not view their page/pictures due to my reluctance to join FB. Why should I join FB? And more importantly, why does FB force people to sign up just to view a friends stuff? The fact that FB requires one to join to view a persons profile is really annoying to me. Especially, since you know that one day (if they haven’t already) they will boast about how many people have joined FB. This, to me is something a communist dictator would do. Force the people of their country to join their political party (or die) and then boast to the world about the numbers in their political party. Okay, bad comparison, but you get my point. Another issue I have with FB is the impression I get from these sites. They appear to me, to give off an adolescent vibe. How many of you have received one of those emails saying, “Juan Dela Cruz, (use any name) is requesting you to be their friend. Click here to visit their profile.” This might have been okay in elementary school but come on people, grow up! Be their friend?! I say, get a life! FB which instead requests you to "be their fan". In my opinion, conveys an adolescent vibe which I find hard to ignore. FB was started by a couple of young college grads to keep in touch. This explains the youthful vibe the site emits. I realize I am in the minority here. Most people are okay with FB. And some even think it’s okay to post mind numbing worthless information about themselves. Everywhere I look I see references to FB including on business advertisements. “Find us on Facebook” most say. So many people are on FB that corporations have determined that it’s worth spending money maintaining a FB page and other related advertisement. There seems to be an FB craze these days with no end in site. Perhaps some changes though are not so far away. Last year (July 2009), in Chicago, a woman has been sued due to the content of one of her Tweets (I assume people reading this know what a Tweet is. Sorry if you don’t). In her posting she complained about mold in the apartment she rented and made mention of the property management company. The lawsuit claims her Twitter posts "maliciously and wrongfully" slammed her apartment at 4242 N. Sheridan and the company managing it. Perhaps if she looses this case, the word will get out that you will be held liable for what you post online, so choose wisely about what you type. Will the quality of online content then improve? I'm certain any improvement will be negligible. I understand that for some people FB provide a way to make their foot-print on the world wide web. Not everyone is computer savvy enough to build their own website, willing to pay to have one created for them or has the time to do either. Most social networking sites are free to join and easy to set up. In a matter of minutes, one can join, set up a profile and send thousands of requests to everyone they know to view their page. In my opinion nothing is wrong with that; just don’t assume everyone will view your page. Not everyone will join FB when invited and not everyone lives their lives through FB. If you have something you really want to share with someone, send them an email. It's a little more personal in my opinion. I hope this FB fad fades soon, but I realize that's just wishful thinking. Instead, it’s likely to morph into a more mature format that more people will adopt. FB is still very young and will grow until it invades the space of a bigger fish. As soon as they pose a threat of capturing a large percentage of a market of mutual interest, the big fish will try and eat them. I have always been a black sheep and proud of it......Okay, Perhaps a tad anti-FB too ; ) more

Some other things you probably didn't know: www.usillegalaliens.com •Cities that receive the largest numbers of immigrants also have twice the unemployment rate, 40% more people living in poverty, and 40% more serious crime per capita than cities with few or no immigrant arrivals. •Some 11.2 million immigrants arrived in the USA between 1990 and 2000. This, added to the 6.4 million children born to immigrants living in the USA, accounts for almost 70% of the US population growth in the past decade. •mmigrants now represent more than one in every ten US residents, the highest percentage in 70 years. •Over the next 50 years, the US Census Bureau projects that immigration will cause the population of the United States to increase from its present 270 million to more than 400 million. •Nationwide, 33% of Third World immigrants who settled in the USA since 1990, live in poverty, nearly three times the rate for US-born natives. Some 36% of immigrants failed to finish high school, more than double the percentage for US-born nationals. •About 15% of US citizens fall below the poverty line, compared to 29% of non-citizens. About 11% of non-citizens have incomes less than 50% of the poverty line, compared to 6% of citizens. •The number of impoverished people in the USA's immigrant-headed households nearly tripled from 2.7 million in 1979 to 7.7 million in 1997. During that same period, the number of poor households headed by immigrants increased by 123% while the number of immigrant households increased by 68%. •According to Forbes Magazine, a greater proportion of the US population is currently living in poverty than what was the case three decades ago. According to Forbes Magazine, Significantly, Hispanics accounted for a statistical 0% of the nation's poor in 1959. •Hispanics first entered the tables in 1972, making up 1.1% of the USA's poor in that year. By 1996, Hispanics made up 2.7% of the nation's poor - almost equivalent to the Black figure. Forbes Magazine identified the leap in Hispanic poverty rates as being dueto their numbers being "fed by immigration." •According to the US Census Bureau, Current Population Survey, March 2001, some 22.1% of Blacks were below the official poverty line. This compares with 21.2% of Hispanics; 10.8% of Asians and Pacific Islanders; and 7.5% of White non-Hispanics. •According to the Puerto Rican/Hispanic Institute for the Elderly in New York, about 23.8% of elderly Hispanics in the United States live in poverty, with no prospects of improvement in their situation. •In 1997, 25% of all children in California were living below the poverty line. •The number of children living in poverty in California had increased by more than 3% from 1990 to 1997. •In the Appalachia, Mississippi Delta, Black Hills, and Los Angeles areas, more than 30% of Hispanics are below the poverty line. •According to a survey by the University of California at San Francisco and the Field Institute, Latinos are 13 times more likely to be part of the working poor -- defined in the survey as a family off our earning less than $20,000. •Denver's five poorest neighborhoods are populated mostly by Hispanics that only speak Spanish, particularly in the northern part of the city. In these neighborhoods, 80% of the children receive food coupons, and are responsible for 37% of the city's crime rate. •The number of people in poverty living in immigrant households in Arizona has nearly tripled to 330,000 from 113,000 during the 1990s. During that same time, immigrant households rose to 41%, from 20% of the total of poverty-level households. •In 1996, according to the Immigration and Naturalization Service, 1.2 million newcomers joined the US population - yet fewer than 5% were admitted because of their job skills. Most of the rest were allowed in because they were relatives of US citizens or other immigrants or were refugees, and a quarter of the total were illegal immigrants. •During the 1990s, more than 1.3 million people with less than a high school education entered the USA. Ofthose who arrived in this decade, 34.4% were school dropouts. •In 1998, nearly 40% of immigrants had less than a high school education - double the share for natives, according to the 1990 census figures. The gap widens when grade school education is considered. Some 23% of immigrants have less than nine years of education, compared with just 4% of Americans. Only 8% of California Latinos have a bachelor's degree or higher, compared with 43% of Asians, 33% of whites and 24% of African Americans, according to the California Research Bureau. •Latinos in California have the highest high school dropout rate (45%), lowest college graduation rate (8%) and, not surprisingly, the lowest median income ($14,560). •The Latino education gap in California is not new. Resolved Question: Is Republican Governor McDonnell lying again in his opposition speech?

WRONG ON ECONOMIC RECOVERY Gov. Bob McDonnell: Today, the federal government is simply trying to do too much. Last year, we were told that massive new federal spending would create more jobs 'immediately' and hold unemployment below 8%. In the past year, over three million Americans have lost their jobs, yet the Democratic Congress continues deficit spending, adding to the bureaucracy, and increasing the national debt on our children and grandchildren. [McDonnell Prepared Remarks, 1/27/10] CBO: The American Recovery And Reinvestment Act Has Created Up To 1.6 Million American Jobs. According to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, "CBO now estimates that in the third quarter of calendar year 2009, ARRA's policies raised real GDP by between 1.2 percent and 3.2 percent, lowered the unemployment rate by between 0.3 and 0.9 percentage points, and increased the number of people employed by between 600,000 and 1.6 million compared with what those values would have been otherwise." [CBO, 11/30/09; emphasis added] CBPP: Recovery Act Is Keeping 6 Million Americans Out Of Poverty. According to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, "Although meant chiefly to help the broad economy, the stimulus plan Congress enacted earlier this year (the American Recovery and Re-Investment Act of 2009, or ARRA) had the important secondary effect of significantly ameliorating the recession's impact on poverty. This analysis, which comes one day before the Census Bureau will release updated poverty figures (for 2008), examines seven of the recovery act's provisions - two improvements in unemployment insurance, three tax credits for working families, an increase in food stamps, and a one-time payment for retirees, veterans, and people with disabilities - and finds that they alone are preventing more than 6 million Americans from falling below the poverty line and are reducing the severity of poverty for 33 million more. Those 6 million people include more than 2 million children and over 500,000 seniors. This analysis includes state-specific estimates for California, Texas, Florida, New York, and Illinois." Considering only a very small percentage of the population is a "welfare scumbag," liberalism is not about taking from the rich and handing it out to the poor. Everybody knows that the feeling gratitude is not produced when you are given something you didn't deserve to get. Hand-outs are not spiritually sustainable. Liberals care more about justice, ethics, continuous improvement and progress. more

For example this year (2009) the Yankees won 103 games and a .636 winning percentage compared to 2008 where they won 89 games with a .549 winning percentage comming in 3rd place in their division and 6th place in the MLB. What was the biggest improvment and drop for a team in... number of wins? winning percentage? rank for their division? rank for their league? rank for the MLB? team ERA? team batting average? team number of homeruns? more

Resolved Question: Do you have to pay to get the nba 2k10 patch?

Patch Notes: GENERAL * Improved game performance in all arenas and camera angles. * Corrected a framerate issue that was causing noticeable slowdown in the paint in specific arenas. * Corrected a framerate issue that was causing noticeable slowdown during NBA D-League games. * Fixed an issue where Coach Settings were not properly saving to the user’s Settings file. * Addressed an issue where the user would enter into a game where there would either be no crowd present or the opposing team would not appear on the court. * Fixed an issue where users would get NBA Blacktop rules (no intentional fouls, no 3-in-the-key, etc.) turned on when attempting to play a Quick Game. * In-game saves should now load up correctly in the Playoffs game mode. * Users are now able to assign any jersey number to a player, on any team, when playing outside of The Association game mode. * Games played in the NBA D-League should now have appropriate sized crowds. * Fixed a slowdown issue during stoppages of play with created teams. * Made a change to where the value for headband colors is stored at. These changes can now be made through Living Roster releases once the patch is released. If you see any discrepancies, make sure and let the 2K Insider know! GAMEPLAY: * Tuned shooting percentages across the board, particularly in the paint where more shots are now initiated with contact. * Fixed a soft hang on an inbound where the inbounding player would miss the ball handoff from the referee. * Plays will no longer break when the user strays slightly from the intended path. * Both User/CPU alley-oop success has been toned down such that only realistic attempts should now be completed. * Assists should now only be credited to the passer at appropriate times. * Only 1 timeout is deducted from the total when the CPU calls a timeout for the user. * The CPU should no longer pass the ball to a teammate when the recipient has a foot out of bounds. * Bad passes should be less inaccurate now. They still happen with similar frequency, but some passes can be recovered now. * CPU players now have better logic behind their turbo energy management (which will keep them fresher for key moments in the game). * CPU players should now be more aware of being called for 3 second violations. * Defensive assist is now turned off when the ball is not in play. * The dribbler should no longer teleport back a few feet on the court following a two player steal attempt. * Players with unique free throw stances (ex., Paul Pierce) will no longer slide into position to shoot the free throw. * Point Guards should no longer end up out of bounds during baseline inbounds coming out of a timeout or dead ball. * Fixed a case where the PG would run in a circle (in anticipation of receiving the ball) in the backcourt during transitions. * Players should no longer get stuck in the post in a single player hold-ball animation (often leading to a 24-second violation) when trying to drive to the basket. * Fixed an issue where the user was unable to give certain players their player-specific animation packages. * Fixed an issue with a baseline layup where opposing defenders weren’t able to create contact when the animation played out. * Addressed a specific dunk animation that would sometimes not result in a made basket despite a successful dunk. * The user should now notice more over-the-back calls on rebounds when the boxed out player attempts a rebound. * Improvements to the ‘walk the dog’ inbounds play including increased velocity on the inbound. * A good number of other changes aimed towards increasing user satisfaction have also been made in this release. These will be apparent as you play the game (ex. The referee will now utilize a bounce pass rather than a chest pass when passing the ball to the shooter during free throw situations, plays will now start quicker when the user manually calls a play, etc.). PRESENTATION: * During NBA Today/Association games, the ‘Upcoming Schedule’ overlay will no longer obstruct gameplay. * Fixed an issue where the substitution overlay would sometimes briefly cover the action on the court. * Blank overlays should no longer quickly appear/disappear during gameplay. ONLINE: * Improved performance and stability for all online game types. * Corrected an issue in Team-Up play where all players would sometimes see the same player (PG) listed in all substitution slots. * Ranked game difficulty has been changed to SuperStar for Team-Up games. * Removed the spotlights for online play only to improve performance during stoppages of play. * Corrected an issue with the My Player Pick-Up games that would sometimes cause games to diverge upon initiation. * Fixed an issue where online Association games would diverge at halftime more

Resolved Question: Did Collins program have a reliability improvement program ?

The simple improvement curve was Y =AXB which will produce a straight line on log-log paper where Y is the unit cost (hours/unit or $’s/unit), X is the unit number, A is a theoretical cost of the first unit (hours or $’s) and B is a line slope constant that is related to the rate of improvement [B is literally equal to ln(learning percent)/ln(2) where the learning percent = 100-(rate of improvement)]. For example if the first unit took 100 hours to complete (A=110) and if we had an improvement rate of 20% the learning percentage would be 80%, so that B = ln(1.00-0.20)/ln(2) and B= -0.32193. Thus we would expect production of the 2nd item would require 80 hours and the 4th item produced would require 64 hours, and so forth, as the production quantity doubles we shave 20% from the production time. Some typical learning curve slopes are described at the NASA Cost Estimating Website (NASA 2003) and the learning % varies from a low of 96% for raw materials to a high of 75% for repetitive electrical operations with most values around 80-90%. The plots have three different formats: 1) hours/unit or $/unit versus cumulative production, 2) cumulative (hours or $’s) versus cumulative production, or 3) cumulative average (hours or $’s) versus cumulative production. Learning curves were used extensively by General Electric, and a GE reliability engineer made log-log plots of cumulative MTBF versus cumulative time which gave a straight line for reliability issues (Duane 1964). Duane argued that all failure data should be used on complex electromechanical systems. He recommended the Y-axis should be Y = (cumulative failures)/(cumulative time) = KT-a where the value K is a constant which is dependent upon equipment complexity, design margins, and design objectives for reliability, the value for a » 0.5 with the expectations that some designs would be better (meaning a > 0.5) and some would be less (meaning a < 0.5) and T is cumulative time. Duane drew his conclusions from studying 5 different data sets and found remarkable similarly in patterns for the curves (meaning the line slopes were about the same). Duane also rearranged his equations and showed cumulative failures F = KT(1-a) which allowed forecasting of future failures based on past results. James Duane had a deterministic postulate for monitoring failures and failure rates of a complex system over time using a log-log plot with straight lines. At the US Army Material Systems Analysis Activity during the mid 1970’s Larry Crow converted Duane’s postulate into a mathematical and statistical proof via Weibull statistics in MIL-HDBK-189 (DOD 1981). The military handbook addressed: reliability growth-The positive improvement in a reliability parameter over a period of time due to changes in product design or the manufacturing process., and reliability growth management-The systematic planning for reliability achievement as a function of time and other resources, and controlling the ongoing rate of achievement by reallocation of resources based on comparisons between planned and assessed reliability values. The ultimate goal of the improvement program was to make reliability grow so as to meet the system reliability and performance requirements by managing the development program. The management effort required making reliability: 1) visible, and 2) a manageable characteristic. Reliability growth program required goals and forecast of progress. The failure data usually produced straight line segments on log-log plots with N(t) = ltb where N is the expected number of failures, l is the failure rate at time t = 1, t is cumulative time, and b is the line slope for cumulative failures versus cumulative time (and b = 1 - a from Duane’s equation). Scientific principles determine that failure data fit N(t) = ltb and thus failure data trends can produce a straight line on log-log paper. Data from maintenance failure databases on a log-log plot, will build a Crow/AMSAA relationship for finding the Y-axis intercept at t=1 for l and the slope of the line will define b changes in the programs. Thus future failures can be forecasted and cusps on the data trends will tell if the system is improving (failures are coming more slowly, b<1), deteriorating (failures are coming more quickly, b>1), or if the system is without improvement/deterioration (failures rates are unchanged, b»1). Recently AMSAA has updated the information from Military Handbook MIL-HDBK-189 and produced the AMSAA Reliability Growth Guide TR-652 (DOD 2000). Two excellent documents on the subject of reliability growth are: MIL-HDBK-189, Reliability Growth Management, 13 February 1981 Download from ASSIST Quick Search as a PDF file using the title for the search. This PDF is 8.1 Meg in size. The AMSAA Technical Report No. TR-652 is called the AMSAA Reliability Growth Guide. You can download this September 2000 document as a PDF from this s more

Voting Question: help me please on a problem on elementary statistics thank you?

For the following scenario determine if the numbers that are percentage (%) are statistics or parameters. A company manufactures cardboard containers for packaging frozen fruit juices. The manufacturing process forms the containers by joining cardboard stock to a metal bottom. The container can be inspected to determine if there might be leaks along the cardboard seam or where the metal bottom is attached. It is known from long experience that 18% of cans produced by this process are defective. A random sample of 50 cans was selected from the production process on Monday and it was found that 12% of the selected cans were defective. Because this seemed to indicate an improvement another sample was selected of the same size on Tuesday and in it there were 21% defective cans. The numbers 12%, 18%, 21% are, respectively, a ______ (Pay attention to the order). A. statistic, statistic, parameter. B. parameter, parameter, statistic. C. statistic, statistic, statistic. D. parameter, statistic, parameter. E. statistic, parameter, statistic. thank you! more

Resolved Question: Hyper Thyroidism & Liver Problem....?

Hello everyone, here is my story: I have a male cat who is 13 years young and we have just been stationed in Germany. During a routine visit for my cat to get his up to date rabies shot the vet was concerned about his health and wanted to run a blood test. This was a little over a month ago and it showed that he had a high elevation of white blood cells, which then led to the vet finding out that 3 of the 4 part of his liver are elevated in percentages. During the next visit, after the phone call where I learned the information above, the vet found leak-age in his upper left gum by his canine. From there, she put my cat on a high dose of antibiotics and a steroid. (Clindamycin & Millipred--Prednisolone). He was on the steroid for 10 days and the antibiotics for 3 weeks(which he just finished on Tuesday morning). Both these medicines were to help with his liver, high white blood cell count, and the gum problem. On Tuesday, we were at the vet to get another dose of blood work to see if the medicine, either one, has helped him. The blood test was to be run again to check his liver to see if there has been any improvement or not. She also then wanted to check his thyroid. Wednesday morning I got the call back that he has hyper thyroidism; which I was told is some what common in older cats. The vet assistant ran through my options: 1. Surgery to remove the thyroid(which she said is not really done anymore) 2. Radio-active Treatment (which is going to run me 800 euros, which would be roughly $1,000 American) 3. Medication called Methimazole for the rest of his life. Now, my concern is this: I still have yet to have a call back on his liver blood results, and depending on what they are, whether or not I need to get an ultra sound/biopsy done. I was researching the methimazole and it says that it is to be used with extreme caution in cats that have a liver impairment. It also says that it is not recommended for a long period of use. It is temporary until one can get the surgery for the thyroid. I can't afford the surgery for the thryoid or let alone, if his liver needs something done, I can't afford that either. I've already spent more out of my budget to help cure what is partially ailing him now and to figure out what exactly is wrong with him. Does anyone else have similar experiences with this hyper thyroidism? What did you do? I know I'm thinking ahead, because I don't have his liver blood work back yet, but I just sort of want to get all my ducks in order as of right now; I'm also in a tizzy because I don't want to lose him, he's my best friend. Any help or guidance/input is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. The website I went to, to find out about the medication alternative, is: http://www.petplace.com/drug-library/methimazole-tapazole/page1.aspx For those interested. more

Voting Question: Not getting results from exercise?

Some background: I'm a 16 year old male, 5' 9.5", 185 pounds. My body fat percentage, last I calculated it was 25%, 10 points higher than the healthy maximum for my age and gender. My diet, while not great, is certainly better than that of many teens my age who are in shape. Now, I have lived an extremely sedentary lifestyle since I was around 10. When I was 13, I decided to get in shape. I ran 30 minutes a day for two months, no tangible results. When I was 14, I joined the middle school basketball team. Five days a week for 8 weeks, few tangible improvements. I tried weight lifting when I was 15 with a personal trainer, no results. I injured my shoulder two months in, and my body fat percentage stayed exactly the same. So here I am, I have practically given up on exercise, but I want to know what I could have done wrong. In all these workout "attempts" for lack of a better word, I didn't feel better mentally like people said. Often I was very tired, winded, and depressed. Now, I know many of you will first say I have too high of expectations, but I've done my research, and set my standards pretty low for my age. There weren't any signs, however small of improvement. Note: I do have mild exercise induced asthma. more
