Open Question: Post mortem revealed my cat died from Lymphoma, should my vet have seen this after 4 weeks of hell?

took Hugo (6 year old long haired cat, on my profile pic) to the vets for his booster on 30th Jan 2010. He had been off his food a bit that week but I thought it was due to the tins he sometimes goes off but apart from that seemed fine. They gave him his injection and a worming tablet and we went home. Got home and he was playing in the garden. Come tea time he was in his bed, we went out and didn't think anything of it. Got back at midnight and he hadn't moved, I knew something was wrong and came down in the night to check on him. The next day he clearly had a fever and was breathing fast. My friend who is a vet nurse said it could have been his booster. Rung the vets but they said "it definitely won't be the booster". He seemed a bit better Monday but then worse on Tuesday so I took him to vet. His temperature was 104.6!! They gave him some metacam and an antibiotic injection and sent him home. He had been off his food totally and went straight home to eat, thank goodness! The next day he seemed to be going back down hill yet again. Took him back to the vets, they kept him in on a drip and next morning he was raging to get out and came home, bright as a button! By Sunday he was quiet again, not eating much, obviously not well. Took him back to vets that week, (temperature 103.8) they kept him in and did more bloods (bloods for first week showed low white cell count and high urea but nothing major). They kept him in for three days, tested leukemia and FIV, both negative. Did more bloods second week and they were normal. Hugo didn't respond to metacam (painkiller to reduce temperature) or the drip during the first 24 hours, he only showed improvement with steroids. By Thursday he seemed a bit better and came home but I knew he wasn't right. I had asked about all kinds of diseases, including lymphoma, Feline peritonitis, inflamed bowel disease, all the major cat illnesses (leukemia etc.) but the vets didn't seem to think anything seemed familiar. Female vet said, "he's not losing enough weight for anything serious". I asked for an Xray and ultrasound scan but they said it wasn't necessary. Went back in on Saturday for another steroid injection. By following Friday he was the same, went back again and they gave him methodone, I was beside myself at this point. They said that they thought his kidneys were swollen but kidney function on bloods were normal. He was eating little bits but not much, he had gone from 3.82kg to 3.61kg. I went home that weekend and nursed him all I could, I let him sleep with me in the spare room, I knew he was seriously unwell. Monday morning came and I was back at the vets with him, asking them to take him in on the drip as I knew this had helped before. They were suspecting pancreatitis. Tests done for this and more bloods showed negative for pancreatitis and some deterioration in the kidneys function. I was begging for a scan, they just kept shooting me down and saying a scan wouldn't show anything. On Wednesday afternoon female vet rang me and said that they wanted to operate, despite not doing the scan that I had requested so many times. I agreed to it but when I went to the vets that night to see my darling Hugo they had been arguing about whether to operate and the male partner in the vets over ruled the female as we were then waiting for pancreatitis test to come back. Test came back negative on 25th Feb so they were planning on operating on 26th Feb to see if they could see anything. When I got there that Thursday evening to see my soulmate Hugo he was in severe pain, could hardly breath and it broke my heart to see him like that. They gave him more methadone to ease the pain which it did. He had another session of difficulty breathing at 10.30pm that evening, they managed to settle him with oxygen and methadone but he died as he yelled out in pain at 11.00pm. I am totally devasted. R.I.P. Hugo, my best friend, I miss you dearly xx I am beating myself up about this, I took him to a trusted vet, did all the research I could, took advice whilst Hugo was in hospital from two other vets. Everyone seemed to draw a blank. All I know is that I was desperate for that scan. Could anyone tell me what they think Hugo could have died from? If I could have done anything different and more importantly what the vets should have done to help him? I feel the vets have let him down terribly :-( Post mortem results revealed my dear Hugo died from Lymphoma in his kidneys, lungs and a lesion in his pancreas. I feel so sorry for my little boy suffering, truly I do, my pathologist told me a scan would have shown this. How do vets diagnose lymphoma? more

Open Question: Anyone Know/Seen Any Female Mechanics?

Hello Folks: I am an adult male living over in the Eastern United States and I have a thing for female motor mechanics and other women working in nontraditional fields. I do not even know why it's like that. While most men like women who can cook, clean (and maybe do some gardening and knitting), I tend to like women who can fix, repair, build and maintain things. (Hey, I'm single and live by myself, so I already do my own cooking and cleaning.) This fetish for Women with Power Tools that I have is a turn on for me, much like the way some guys get turned on when they see Girls with Guns. I am aware that the average tradeswoman/handywoman is quite "rough around the edges" and thus very far from a beauty queen and/or even a Hooter's Girl, but hey, I am prepared to deal with that fact. Resolved Question: Parents relationship help!?

Last year I started dating my girlfriend. I met her my freshman year of college, and she was a senior in the local highschool. Stuff was great between us last year, but once half of the summer passed, we ran into problems. My Dad is a friend not just a father, so i vented to him about the issues. My girlfriend made some choices that even I was upset about, and I ended things with her. The first semester of school started, and we were not together. Her and I talked everything out, and have spent the first two months of this spring semester together. She is in college now, and I have to say that between my improvement on communication and her maturity from going to college, everything has been great. Its lke we can get down to the friendship and love we knew was there. I could not feel more confident or be more happy about what we have. I am home for spring break, and my Dad and I just got in a fight about my relationship. He said he doesn't trust her, that she is a whore, that I should make the right choice and dump her, that she is out to get me and has a grasp on me, and that he is extremely upset about my choices. He said that our father son relationship is fundamentally different now that I'm back with her. I spend so much wonderful time with my girl, she respects me, I get plenty of time with friends, we make choices from both sides of the relationship, and I know everything is going in a good direction. My Dad has cut off people for years. He rarely agrees with any of my relationships or sister's relationships. He has no social friends, and neither does my Mom, outside of work. I value my relationship with my Dad, but his level of aggression and disapproval with the situation scares me. Im afraid to lose his support as a person. I cannot and will not lose what I have with my girlfriend, she means the world to me. I have a good GPA, im going to Quantico to train to be a Marine Officer, Im self motivated, and every choice I have made in the past five years has been approved and praised by my parents. I don't know why their approval is so conditional, I hate that their love has standards, and that my Dad won't step out of his own shoes for a minute. I know he is looking out for me, but I am confident I am making the right choice. HOW DO I BALANCE EVERYTHING, WHAT SHOULD I DO WITH MY DAD. SHOULD I TELL MY GIRLFRIEND THE SITUATION? I am just going to throw out my own little top 10 wishlist here. I am also interested to see what other people have to add or whether they share in my ideas. Honorable Mention - Commentators: Chris Collinsworth is the suxxor! 10. Crowds: Back in Madden 2004, if a team was not doing well, their home stadium would typically show it when you would look at the crowd filling only a quarter of the stadium. In NCAA 2009, home crowds affected away teams by blurring plays and occasionally, not allowing you to change a receiver's rout. These are elements that should be reincorporated in every football game. 9. Franchise Options: Why did they do away with pricing options? I use to miss dollar beer days on Madden 2004. =( Was there really any reason to do away with this 8. Spidey Sense: EA needs to remove this ability from defenders. Far too many times, a perfect game at QB can be ruined by a no name defender that is not even looking for the ball who happens to jump about 4 feet in the air to intercept a pass without even looking. WOW! Amazing! This problem has existed in every 3D version of Madden to date. 7. Player Progression: Sidney Rice just had a breakout year at wide receiver. I forget what his overall in 2010 was, but I bet it was below 80. Any takers for a 90 overall in 2011? Now, this is great and all but what if I have a breakout year with one of my rookies in Madden 2011? I drafted an awesome rookie runningback on one of my many 2010 franchises. He had over 1200 yards rushing and over 1000 yards receiving. He had over 25 total TDs. He improved 1 point overall... Yeah, from a 72 to a 73. -.- Seriously? If this back were real, he would have went from a 72 to an 88 at the very least in the next Madden. I am glad that players are actually improving, but potential was a bad move in 2010. I player should progress based on performance... Not potential. 6. Blocking: It is solid, but definitely needs tweaking. I occasionally have my fullback run past linebackers to block the safety for whatever reason. Lineman lag behind halfbacks on screen plays. It is nit-picking, but there are some real improvements to be made here. 5. Fluent Control: Players continue to run like robots, animations take too long to progress (no matter what game speed you have it on), and half of the screen plays are broken because their is a great deal of difficulty in turning your receiver upfield after he makes the reception. 4. Receiver AI: In real life, receivers do not just stand around when they complete their rout... They find a way to get open. In addition to Receiver AI problems, cornerbacks and safeties will fight for the ball. Receivers NEVER fight for the ball. 3. It's called ALL MADDEN, not ALL BS: Can't EA make the game more challenging withOUT cheating? Seriously! Every game I have played on All Madden, my receivers were dropping passes left and right. I even had a game where my main WR dropped NINE passes. WTF? 2. Quarterback AI: In real life, a quarterback would much rather take a sack than throw an interception. In Madden, a quarterback would rather throw an interception before taking a sack. And finally... 1. Coaching AI: Does anybody else get pissed when the computer just KNOWS they are running it after 15 straight passes? more

I am trying to remember the name of a TV show with a blind black man as one of the main characters, at least I am 90% sure he was black. The only thing I an really remember is that the blind black man was a main character and they would always be in a little bar. I think it was produced around the same time as Home Improvement (90s). Voting Question: Would a profession like this be something worth doing?

I went back to school to get my degree in Sociology. I am currently 2 years away from graduation and I am starting to give some thought as to what I want to do with it in terms of a career. I wanted to go into law enforcement or criminology, but I am thinking about a different approach. It's not necessarily social work, but similar in a way. What I am thinking about is really helping people. Not pretending to help people then sending them on their merry way, but devoting my life to really making a difference in their lives. I am not as concerned with earnings and money and profits as I am with seeing people make significant progress and improvements in life. That means so much more to me. What I am thinking about doing is going to the prisons and rehab centers and children's homes, homeless shelters, etc. and setting up a safe place for them to go when they get out. Even if they have a place, say a prisoner who's going home after he/she is released, but needs transitioning. A place that shows them they have other options in life. That offers positive experiences; day trips, fun outings, yoga, meditation, arts, dancing, etc. A place where they can find peace. Even if they committed a crime, everyone deserves a second chance in life. I'd like to show them the way. Maybe they just need kindness. Maybe that's all they really want, because no one has been kind to them before. I will provide that. They deserve a chance to really enjoy life. Sort of a sanctuary place. It will not be one of these things where when they are finished transitioning with me I let them go and that's that. They are always welcome back if they feel they'll be in trouble again. Voting Question: Lost my voice for nearly 2 weeks now, why will it not return?

So I had a mean cold about 2 weeks ago and a consequence was laryngitis. That was over two weeks ago. I feel perfectly fine but my voice has shown no improvement. This is becoming a cause of concern for me. I teach high school so I am sure that that is not a booster. I have used all health focuses from home in exception to a humidifier. How long is this suppost to last and am I damaging my voice box in the process? It is raspsy but works in the morning but by 330 it is all down hill. Any suggestions? Also, I already went to the Dr. and there is no bacterial infection, she told me to just ride it out. Please offer any suggestions you may have! more

Open Question: Bad problem with my dog! Need help!?

My dog has been frantically chasing his butt often for about two months now. his butt and back two legs tremble and shake a lot and he doesnt even listen to me or care about anything but his butt anymore. he doesnt even show excitement when i come home anymore. sometimes he's okay and calms down, but sometimes he goes crazy. i've taken him to numerous vets and specialists and they cant figure out whats wrong with him. we think it may me mental rather than him being in pain, but we're not sure. we got some pills from the vet that they said might possibly help but i see no improvement. if things dont change then he might have to be put asleep because i cant watch over him all the time and he cant live like this. DOES ANYONE have any knowledge or ideas or suggestions or help about this at all? Please let me know if you do because i don't want to loose him!We've had his blood and poop tested. We've tried everything. A neurologist reccomended we get a CAT scan/MRI scan, but i cannot afford that. and this has been going on since early-mid december, but wasnt always as bad. if it was a rash or something physical i think the doctors would know. it's like he's not the same dog anymore.I walk him regularly, take great care of him, give him tons of attention. when ever he tries to chase his butt i stop him and pet him and try to calm him down and get him to sleep. more

Thanks ‘Of Mice and Men’ is a powerful novel written by John Steinbeck to show the reality of the Great Depression that took place in the 1930’s. During this time lots of men lost their jobs and were forced to migrate all over America in search of work. Due to this large loss in money, lots of people lost their homes and land and this was a big loss. Because of this many people formed a dream, also known as the American dream, which was to get some land. It was often unrealistic but it comforted many people to think that if they worked hard enough for a short period of time it would come true. The main place where all of these people went to work was on a ranch where they could work and were given somewhere to sleep. Many of these men had no-one and it made the dream even more unrealistic, to think that so many men could work and save up enough money by themselves to be able to get themselves some land. more

Lately, several web pages have been showing me web-based ads that seem to know where I live. For example, a web site about home improvements showed me an ad that said, "Find contractors in Littleton." It seems that the ad is pulling the name of my city from some variable on my browser or elsewhere on my PC. Obviously, it's not saying "Littleton" for everybody. I did a View Source on the web page, but there's no obvious reference to any variable. I expect to see something like this when I'm logged in to, say, Facebook. I am really started to get upset at our govt - I believe Bush passed the first extension period just prior to when he left office & the economy started tanking - then Obama since he's been in office has passed atleast one more extension, maybe TWO now, I'm not sure - now on today's news I heard they are proposing ANOTHER xx month extension to people on unemployment ! I mean, give me a Break. First we have the Highest deficit in the history of our country, we are basically broke as a country financially - We, he (Obama), everyone "wants" to improve the economy, and get people Back to work, right? Good lord, look online or in the classifieds, or any job search tool - there are SO many jobs going unfilled right now. Many people seem like they do not WANT to work any more !! Do other people notice this lately? I mean, originally unemployment lasted what was it, 3 or 6 months total, right? Then Bush passed some XX month extension, not sure how many more months that was added to the original time. Then Obama gets in office and he starts adding More and More extensions to the total time a person can collect unemployment. Where is this going to END !! I mean, why don't they just start PAYING people to stay home for 4 or 5 years or longer, and not work at all ? (oh I forgot, they already have a good program that does that, Welfare) I lost my job like millions of others did, back in 2008. My company completely shut down and laid off over 100 people. Yes it was horrible. I know what its like to lose your security, your income, your job, your career, its AWFUL. But I got another job just a couple months after being laid off - working at Lowes home improvement store. Sure it pays less than what I made, and it might not be as "impressive" to people that make a big deal out of job titles & status - but the point is I am WORKING and not collecting charity sitting at home doing nothing - I am SO sick of these constant extensions to Unemployment the govt is going - Is anyone else ?? Another thing to consider if you are one of the people thats been collecting u/e for 6 months, a year, or longer - WHO is going to hire you after your resume shows you sat at home for a year, 2 years, 3 years, longer ?? No hiring manager in his right mind would want to touch a person who's been doing NOTHING but living off the government and sitting idle for the last xx years. Go out there and take a job - walk down Main St and tell each store manager or owner that you will work & do any job he/she needs for $xxx a week !! I know several people who pounded the pavement, offered their services to businesses, stores & restaurants who did not list any openings, and got hired by just offering their skills/services for a reasonable price. Look, I used to make $35/hour. I make just under $15/hr now. But I like my job, I am thankful for what I have, and you just have to make adjustments to your standard of living and your spending, that's all. Please folks, I know so many guys & gals right now who are just laughing and sitting home since 2008 or 2009, doing nothing, and collecting unemployment, and laughing every time the Fed passes another extension for them. Don't do this. Its not right, and its just taking advantage of the system. Our country needs people to WORK and contribute to the GNP, and earn/spend MONEY. Resolved Question: How will I know my pup is getting better with parvo?

My dads pup started to throw up on Tuesday morning. So he took Him to the vet that day. They confirmed he had parvo. My dad decided to do treatment at home so he can be loved and watched over 24 hours. The vet said that was fine,and sent him home w antibiotics and the iv thing that hr puts in his skin. My dad gives him parvaid as directed,anibiotic, and pedialyte, iv ect. So far it seems as if he isn't getting worse but isn't showing significant sighns of improvement yet either his bloody poo just started. How long does it take to run it's course? Its only been 3 days and he is still fighting. Please give me some feedback on what to expect if he gets better or worse? He is about 11-12wks.Please keep "Smokey" in your prayers! :( more

I'm 17 years old. My doctor recommended to my parents that I receive inpatient care for bulimia. I feel that I don't need it at all. To prove to my parents I didn't need it, I tried to stop purging for a week- I only ended up purging twice and another time I stopped myself right before I was going to do it. Now, this is a complete improvement (i was doing it up to three times a day)! i have a 4month old staffordshire bull terrier who does not want to exit the home ! he is fine in the garden and runs around but as soon as i show him his lead he runs into his little home. i cant even get him out of the drive way as he refuses to move. i have been trying for over a month now and there is no improvement. Treats do not work (not even his favourite). Toys do not work. Following my friends staff does not work. I really do not knoe what i can do. I have tried picking him up on numerous occassions and walking down the street but as soon as i put him down on the floor he will drag me back home. I have tried taking him 2 the park in a car he is fine there but it would be very inconvient 2 me taking him by car everytime. I would do anything to get him walking on roads even if he was dragging me i would not care i just want him 2 be happy outside. Resolved Question: Enlisting in the National Guard with marijuana possession?

Alright, here's my story: I enlisted in the MN Army National Guard on Sep. 22nd 2009, and on this day I took my oath of enlistment and was assigned a ship date of March 1st 2010. I signed up for 11 Bravo, or Infantry as my MOS. I have since then been ordered to attend RSP drills one weekend a month, and to stay out of trouble. Piece of cake. Here's my issue: I had a marijuana possession offense before I enlisted. Now, I told my recruiter this, and he said this would be 'no problem'. We put a copy of the ticket, and proof that I paid my fine in with all my other paperwork at MEPS, so there is no doubt that the Army knows of my offense. I had heard that enlisting with drug offenses was not possible, and voiced my concerns to my recruiter, but he insisted that everything would be alright. To my knowledge, he did not get me a waiver. Yet, I was still allowed to take my oath, and have been earning military pay since. Since I took my oath, I have attended EVERY RSP drill that I have been ordered to, and every month have shown drastic improvement on my PT score, and on my knowledge of the rank structure, Soldier's Creed, etc. I was even given an award on one drill weekend for having all my sh*t together. I absolutely LOVE my new life, and plan on one day attending ROTC to become and officer and turn the Army into a full time career. Yet, every day I worry that this drug offense will somehow get me kicked out of the Army, maybe even before I leave for basic. I see people posting online that said they were 'barred from enlistment' because of marijuana offenses, and that was in 2010...AFTER I enlisted! How is it they couldn't enlist with these offenses, but I could? I guess what I'm asking is: am I just worrying too much, or is my paranoia justified? Since I took my oath, am I home free? Or will this offense get me kicked out, even with my record showing how committed I' am? Did my recruiter lie and just do what he could to get me in, but later on I will be screwed because of this? Being in the Army means everything to me, and I have completely turned my life around since I joined. I need to know now if I should really be worried so that I can figure out a way to fix it. more

Resolved Question: Guinea pig sick help please?!?

My oldest guinea pig (which I discovered last night was about 7) seems to have fallen ill. She's under a lot of stress- her cage just got remodeled and she's now housed with the bully and her daughter. None of those two are showing any sorts of symptoms. Moo is not eating and drinking voluntarily. When she's put by her food (first time with a second level and ramps), she'll try and chew a pellet, but it looks more like she's trying to scratch her face, by the looks of her position (head hunched down and to the side). She also is not drinking on her own, we've had to syringe feed her water and force feed her pellet mash. I've kept her in the quarantine cage since last night, getting up every 2 hours to feed and water her. Her only improvement has been some feces in the cage- about 10 small, deformed, and oddly shaped pellets. At least she's got stuff going through her system again. She's also sneezing and coughing a lot when she's not somewhere warm (like wrapped in a blanket and under my shirt, in my room, under my covers, etc.). Her coughs sound like a young child coughing. We're making a vet appointment as soon as we can, but what can we do until then? My mom let me stay home from school the first half of the day so I could take care of her. Please help soon, poor Moomoo isn't getting much better D:She hasn't been in the cage with the food on the top for very long. Just her pelleted food on top, she was in very very easy reach on the hay (it was hanging right in front of her). I'm looking for some good, detailed instructional videos on home improvement projects, such as electrical, plumbing, ceramic tile, and drywall. I have experience with electrical, so I bought the electrical DVD from the Home Depot to check it out. I didn't learn a thing from it! They show only a few very simple things (replacing switches, outlets, fixtures) that any idiot should be able to do. They didn't show how to run wire, make connections, tap into an existing circuit, or anything. Are the rest of the Home Depot videos on other trades the same way? Or are there better ones out there? My dad has a VHS electrical video from 1987, and I learned a lot more from that when I watched it a few years ago than I did with the new one from HD. more

California taxpayers have shelled out about $630 million over the past dozen years to provide English classes to immigrant adults. The money was required as part of Prop. 227, an anti-bilingual education initiative passed by voters in 1998. The measure, approved by 61 percent of voters, said that public school kids should learn English as quickly and effectively as possible. It was intended to move students with limited English skills into mainstream classes within one year. To help accomplish that goal, the state spent $50 million annually over 10 years to provide free English classes to immigrant parents and others who pledged to tutor kids with limited English proficiency. The state Legislature reauthorized the program in 2006. About $130 million was allocated in the following three fiscal years. The program is slated to receive about $40 million in the 2010-2011 budget. Some question whether the program has worked. Even supporters of bilingual education say the money might be better spent elsewhere. "Perhaps an equally beneficial way to spend that money is to teach teachers Spanish so a 21st Century teacher has the skills to reach all audiences," said Louie Rodriguez, assistant professor of educational leadership and curriculum at Cal State San Bernardino. "In this case, perhaps speaking Spanish would make them a stronger teacher," Rodriguez said. English learners have shown gains on standardized tests in recent years, but educators say there is plenty of room for improvement. "I feel that some of the money should be used to provide daily afterschool English-as-a-Second Language classes for students to learn English more rapidly," said Gil Navarro, a member of the San Bernardino County board of education. Republican lawmakers are also concerned that some of the money is helping parents who are in the country illegally. "It's hard for parents to help their kids with homework if they can't speak English. But at the same time, you can't condone someone who is violating our immigration law," said Robert Dutton, R-Rancho Cucamonga, the Republican leader-elect in the state Senate. "It's bad public policy to provide public benefits to people who have broken the law and are here illegally." Assemblyman Steve Knight, R-Palmdale, said kids are being shortchanged because their parents don't try hard enough to learn English. "It's not well-spent money to teach our students' parents how to learn English," said Knight, whose district includes Victorville and the High Desert. "A lot of parents do not speak English at home. A lot of kids go home and are put back in an environment where English is not spoken." Knight said taxpayers would be better served if the money was used to hire tutors to help kids in math, science and English. San Bernardino County school districts received about $3 million a year for the program in the decade after the anti-bilingual education law passed. Local districts now share a total of about $2.5 million a year, which is dispersed based on the number of English learners per district. As a result of the budget crisis, the state now gives districts flexibility to use the money for other purposes if they choose. The San Bernardino City Unified School District gets the largest amount of any district in the county. The district, the seventh largest in the state, received about $600,000 annually for the 10-year period after the law passed. In subsequent years, the district has received about $500,000 annually. Daniel Arellano, the district's director of English learner programs, said the classes are much sought after by parents. More than than 1,000 signed up last year, he said. Ok. My 23 month old got sick on jan 8 he got diarrhea really bad. They said it was a virus which i understood. Well on the 10 he started throwing up and on 12 he started with fever. he has now had fever every day since the 12th. we have been in and out the doctor and ran stool test and told me he was fine and i knew he was not fine. We finally took him to the children's er hosptial and they did some other blood work and told me he was fine and sent us away. He continuded to lose weight he has went from 34 pounds to 28!!!!! We brought him back to childrens hospital and they finally put him in because he had lost a pound from their scale in just 3 days. They have ran multipled test on his stool. He is continuing with the diarrhea and his fever is still 100 and over he gets up to 103 but for last few days he started to imporve with fluids. He not really hungry or thirsty and his fevers have been in the low 100s well tonight he started back throwing up bad again threw up 3 times already in last few hours. he continues to hold his stomach and they tell me when they press on it he seems fine. I am not sure what is wrong with him but something is wrong with him!!! this is 23 days tomorrow and i can not take this he is starting to get worse again and this is same thing that happened to him at home he would start to show some signs of improvement and boom just worse! anyone with this same stuff with their kids. he isnt allergic to milk he hasnt had it in 3 week and his diet has been non existant!! something is wrong with my babyok they have ruled out all the viruses and we have been here for 3 days!!! going on 4 um they have ruled out pratically every infection possible so the h1n1 he isnt showing any signs of upper respiratory problems? more

So here is my story. My father is a nice, highly-educated man. He is not one to yell, drink heavily, or otherwise act like an idiot. In this I know I am very fortunate. However, he does not show affection well. He occasionally awkwardly hugs my grandmother or my mother when prompted. I have never seen my parents show affection towards one another in public, although they have been married for 30 years. I have been able to hug him exactly two times in my adult life. We have always had a good 'professional' relationship. We work on technology, home improvement, and automotive projects together, and have good intellectual discussions. However, we never have personal discussions. About anything. I am certainly not "daddy's little girl". He has never told me who not to date, or made any direct comment about me being female. He has never even asked if I were currently in a relationship. I have no brothers, and sometimes I wonder if the problem is more that he wanted me to be a son, or that he does not know how to approach a daughter. The weird thing is, my parents aren't particularly conservative in any other way. He has no reservations about doing 'unmanly' things like going to art museums and operas. Has anybody else been in a similar situation? I'm nearing 30, now, and I have the sneaking suspicion that in the long run this has had a an adverse effect on my desire to have relationships beyond professional with men, or to show affection to anybody. Ok so I went to a 4 year state university where I got a 0.6 GPA with mostly Fs because I was suffering through my bipolar episodes and family problems and ended up basically either staying in my room or off wasting time. I took some time off and sat at home then went to a community college linked to the state university. I am now graduating from the community college with a 3.9 GPA with an associates and I want to go to another state school for my bachelors which ranks about the same as the first one. My drive to succeed is stronger than it has ever been before. I am sorta obsessed with achieving my goals now. How do I explain my situation to them? How badly will the .6 affect me if I provide them with medical documentation of my disorder and tell them why exactly I failed for almost 2 years? Do I have to show them the .6 even if I am not transferring any credits from the first state university? I really was in a whole different mindset during those years. Regardless will they see the improvements I made and all these awards I got such as dean's list and bunch of other honorary awards as well as graduating top 15 and stuff? Basically its those years at the first university where things got very bad, my high school GPA was 3.4. So will the new university understand what I have been through? more

Two weeks ago, I noticed my dog (APBT) had a sensitive back. I immediately took her to her vet and had x-rays taken. The veteriniarian explained that she couldnt find anything wrong with her. I asked that she run more tests as I know my dog and know she would not complain unless the pain is pretty bad. The vet ran blood tests and more x-rays. The blood test came through as normal. The x-rays showed a little bit of arthritis starting in her knee, but nothing else. Again, the vet could not find anything. She prescribed pain killers and said that my dog probably sprained something. I followed her prescription and kept monitoring her. As soon as I gave her the pain killer I noticed a significant improvement in her mood. Two days ago I noticed that my dog stopped eating. She has never been a big eater so we basically leave a bowl full and she eats when she pleases. She usually rations out her food so I noticed right away she hadn't touched her bowl. However, she was drinking an astronomical amount of water. Her mood was very lathargic and she starting bleeding. At first it was a little at a time and progressively got worse. I called my vet and she explained that she believes my dog is having an allergic reaction to the pain medication as this type of pain-killer has a tendency to accumalate in the blood stream. She prescribed different pain killers yesterday. I went out last night and got home around 10:30. I knew something was wrong immediately. My dog was bleeding much worse and the blood had a foul smell. I immediately rushed her to emergency hospital and she was diagnosed with pyometra. My dog is 7 years old and we never spayed her. She's never had a litter either but we decided to wait because we had intention of breeding her eventually. This disease is due to a bacteria that entered her uterus during her last heat (about two weeks ago) The disease is fatal if her uterus is not removed immediately. I agreed to pay for the operation (over 2000$) and she is presently in surgery. I am extremely upset with my regular vet as I can not understand why this disease was not caught faster. My dog could die because of this and timing is crucial. Her cervix is open and apparently that is a very good thing. It appears the infection has not entered her blood stream either. Has anyone gone through this procedure with their dog before? And if so, what was the outcome? I need some reassurance that she has good chances of coming through this alive and healthy. I truly did my best to make sure she was properly taken care of and I can't believe the vet never caught this potentially fatal disease.I know! I feel absolutely terrible. Obviously I came to the conclusion a few years ago that we would never breed her. I thought about spaying but my stupid vet never explained to me how dangerous it could be if I didnt. Had I known of the potential consequenes of course I would have had her spayed. I just assumed spayed = no puppies...so I didn't do it... I wish I had known. more

Voting Question: What could be possibly wrong with my back.. after I injured it?

Okay so last wednesday I was at cheerleading practice and I am the backspot. Well when I went to push the girl up in the air she fell back down on my arms, (my arms and back were extended ready to catch her). When she fell on my hands, my back went backwards (in an arched position) really far and made popping noises. After that I noticed my back hurt a little and then when I was driving home, my back started hurting me alot. It got to the part where it hurt to walk and the pain started to go down into my left leg. So when I got home, my family thought it was best for me to go the emergency room. I got to the emergency room and the did xrays to see if anything could have been fractured. Well the nurse practitioner on call said that nothing was broken and it was possible that I could have popped a ligament in my lower back. Well it is now saturday and I havent seen much improvement, except for the fact that the pain has left my left leg. I started doing research into possible back injuries and I read alot of websites that said when the person was recently injured, usually the x rays didn't show up any fractures or anything. I think I will wait till monday to go to my regular physician to decide what to do next. What do you think is wrong with me? And do you think I should wait to go to the doctor? Any suggestions? Resolved Question: Working with dogs that aren't fond of children?

Background: My Newf is around 18 months old. When he was a puppy, we did all sorts of socialization including with children. But around 6 months old, he developed a fear towards children. We continued to work on it and the problem seemed went away. But around 13 months old, that nervousness/fear toward children resurfaced again. This time is not as easy, because he is a big boy now. Luckily, after long searches, we got to know a very good canine behaviourist. We have been working with her for few months and it's progressing slowly but nicely. We learn about clicker training, we learn about how to introduce him to a children environment and how to break his eye contact constantly to ease away the tension, how to play certain games with children etc.... There is definitely improvement. He is now able to recover much faster when he shows nervousness, couple weeks ago he even played with a kid in the dog park for quite a while. But there are still lots to be done, he is still nervous when kids suddenly approaching him or a group of children running toward us. He never got to the stage that he learns to bite, only warning barks. But barks coming from a 140lbs dog is quite different than coming from a chihuahua. Other than this issue, he is a perfect dog all around...well behaved at home, good with strangers and dogs. Me and my partner never plan to have children. Not many of our closed friends have young children so he will stay with us forever even his issue with children does not go away. And he did not react to children during walks, only if suddenly they start approaching him before he gets comfortable. I know lots of people have experience working with dogs that have this issue before. Could you kindly share some of your stories? So I can learn from other people experiences. I know this kind of therapy takes long time and you can't simply push it too quick. I have all the time and love for my dog to help him. more

I have a Beautiful baby boy who will be 2 this March! At this point in time he is only able to roll over and hold his bottle! He is unable to speak,eat,sit,crawl,walk, ETC. He has VERY low muscle tone! He appears to look normal! Just like any other little boy his age ! And is the happiest baby you could ever meet! But they do not have a diagnosis for him at this time! He did have seizures at 2 months but we never found out why! Well to the point, I have applied for social security disability because I am unable to work because of his condition. I ended up having to move in with my mom and dad and am currently being supported by them. I am wanting to get back on my feet and amm hoping the he will receivee enough for us to at leastt move out and me be able to afford daycare for kids with special needs so that I can get a job.(FYI) He is currently doing entensive therapy 6 times a week and is showing very small improvements!!!! My husband did some custom built kitchen cabinets on a residential home. The owner of the house is self employed and every time he paid my husband he used a company check. This week the guy discovered that he has to pay tons on money back to the IRS, so he called my husband and asked him to file a W-9 form so that he may file my husband’s fees as a contractor not for his personal home but as a contractor related to his business. I’m not certain if he can claim that under his business even though it was home improvements that were made to his house. Are we out of luck because he paid us with his company check, which shows no proof that it was kitchen cabinets that were done to his residence. We always only include the wages under OTHER WAGES on the Tax Return without filing a W-9 and later getting a 1099-MISC. Does this affect us in any way? Is it different when you file a W-9 form and 1099-MISC, than just including the wage as OTHER WAGES? Thank you So much for your help! more
