Lodging Vacation Questions and Answers

Open Question: My boyfriend doesn't like getting involved with planning things. Is this normal?

I have been looking forward to a vacation (I work) with my boyfriend (who's in college still) for a long time. His spring break is coming up, so I told him we should take a weekend and go out of town, since we don't get much time to ourselves (a couple hours a day) as I live at home with strict parents, and we are both busy. He agreed but everytime I brought it up to begin planning, he never seemed enthusiastic about it ("So where should we go? What would you want to do?" "I dunno. Whereever.") We finally picked out a place together, but as far as where to stay, the transportation, reservations, and things to do, I have essentially researched and planned out the whole trip myself. I am also paying for the bulk of it. Finally, I asked him if he could get online and talk to me really fast about lodging so we could decide and finalize things (he was on his study break) and he refused, telling me that it didn't matter, he didn't care, and to just book whatever was cheapest. Is this just normal guy behavior? Or does he just not care? I don't want to waste money on a trip that he isn't even that into. more

Open Question: ♥I've just had a great idea!♥?

Do you think That if I wrote this story for a contest that I could win? And does the plot seem good. A girl finds a shell-shaped talisman on the beach while her family is on a much-needed vacation. The talisman has unusual powers which leach from the interior of the shell through the skin of the user and lodges itself in the brain of the user. The effect diffes depending on the hopes and dreams of the user. If the talisman had been found by the girl's mother, she would become the most amazing, sought-after chef on the planet. If used by her father, he would become America's most successful stock broker. But the talisman wasn't found or used by the girl's mother or father. It was used by the girl herself. The power the talisman imbued to the girl was that of powerful, magnetic story-writing that entrances readers worldwide. The one limitation to the talisman's power, is that it must be in physical contact with the user in order for the effect to be maintained. Once it is no longer in contact with the user, he/she reverts to his/her usual self. The girl threads the talisman onto a necklace, and never takes it off. She wears it to bed, in the shower, to school, on weekends - 24/7. She keeps it on a sturdy chain, and develops a habit of playfully swinging the chain (and talisman) around her fingers as she writes. Her writing, as expected, becomes a phenomenal success. By age 15, her books had far surpassed those of even the most popular authors of the day. She was swimming in cash, had paparazzi chasing after her day and night, and wall papered her bedroom with fan mail. Readers demanded more and more and more. Although the girl was flattered by the fans and very much enjoyed her financial success, she was nagged by the thought that her writing wasn.t . . . well, it wasn't really HERS. She continued to acquiesce to the demands of her readers by cranking out award-winning novels at an almost unbelievable pace. Herr guilt grew as quickly as her fanbase. People began asking questions. Questions the girl could not answer. Savvy fans from across the globe started noticing that her plots and her characters bore a striking resemblance to unpublished work of other authors. Some of the authors she had (unwittingly) plagiarized were hurt, but did nothing. Others, however, were more than hurt. They were angry. These authors lodged a class action suit. The girl was fined and imprisoned for egregious violation of copyright. As she sat in her cell twirling her talisman, she thought a lot about what she had done. Although she did not intend it, she stole from others, and she was found out. Her reputation would never be the same. Although she would be released in less than a year, her writing career was over. No publisher would touch a convicted plagiarist. It was too late now to take the time to develop her writing skills herself. She wondered how much time and effort her unintended victims had invested in honing their craft, and if they could ever forgive her. The day she was released from prison, she headed straight to the same shore on which she had found the cursed talisman. She took a small hammer from her beach bag, placed the talisman on a piece of driftwood, and smashed it to bits. She smiled as she drove away from the beach. Confident in the knowledge that no one else would be cursed with success they didn't earn. more

Resolved Question: Is my Girlfriend looking for other guys?

I am living with my girlfriend for the past few months and we know each other for a year. She often say to me that she likes me very much. But, she used to travel long distance alone as she wants to improve her language. Unfortunately, I couldn't accompany her in long distance traveling due to the work load at the office. Otherwise, I am very happy to travel with her to nearby places during Weekends. One time she went to night club with 2 guys and she explained to me that is only to accompany her girlfriend. They also stayed together in a lodge that day. The other time she and her girlfriends traveled with some other guys for 2 or 3 days whom they met during their holidays. My girlfriend is also going out with an other guy during the Vacation at the place where she is learning the language. They both also staying in the same lodge and she is very much interested in spending time with him (He has nothing to do with the language). As she understood that I am very disappointed, it takes few days for her to come up with the answer that he is a gay. What should I do? I talked about this with her directly and she said that she is just talking with guys and that there is nothing behind it. I would be much more happy either way when she speaks it honestly to me. I don't want to be get played or to play with other's emotions. I couldn't understand. If she wants to look around, why she doesn't want to say it directly to me?Additional Information: Yes, I have got enough work load at the office. But most of the time I used to come home, cook for her and wait until she arrives. Even I sacrifice my friends a bit for her and I gave my entire evening from Mon to Friday and the whole Weekend. I will meet my friends once in a while together with her or else I will meet them only if she is out of station. Her family members are nice and kind to me. more

Resolved Question: Disney Spring Break Vacation Itinerary help?

Hello there. My husband and I were trying to figure out a great family vacation during the kid’s spring break from school. Spring break is from March 29-April 2. The kids ages are 16 and 17, so we want to do something that will keep them from being bored, as you know how easily teenagers get bored now-a-days! here's the problems that occurred: 1) I have to work on Monday the 29. (can’t get it off!) 2) We want to be home by Easter Sunday (to go to church). 3) we are on a budget. Since our family loves to camp and we love Disney World. We have 5-day Disney hoppers (no expiration), we decided it would be fun to go camping at Disney's Fort Wilderness Lodge! We have been to the Disney parks several times before, so we know the drill of everything and how tired we will be! We haven’t however, been to Disney Quest or Blizzard Beach in many years, so my husband will be paying for tickets for us to enjoy those activities once again. Here is our itinerary for the week: I know it is a very busy schedule, but we will be able to sleep in (and relax) on Easter Sunday before and after church. Please tell me your opinion and how it should be better arranged. Also, please do not list other restaurant options. We as a family agreed upon these restaurants as our favorites- or ones we would like to visit together. I would like more rest time or "camping" time to spend just on the campsite and not just be there to sleep. If anyone know of a way to arrange this schedule to fit everything in and still have a day of "camping" PLEASE let me know. I would be very much grateful. Thank you in advance! *oh! and we will be bringing our own food for the every breakfast and lunch the first day.* Tuesday, March 30: 8:00am- wake up and breakfast 8:30am- pack up van 8:45am- leave 11:00am- check into campground 11:30am- set up campsite/unpack/eat packed lunch 12:30pm- get bus to Downtown Disney 1:00pm- Disney Quest (kids) and shopping (parents) 6:00pm- leave Disney Quest 6:30pm- air balloon ride 7:00pm- get bus to Polynesian resort 7:15pm- look at resort 8:00pm- dinner at ‘Ohana restaurant 9:15pm- get bus back to campground 9:45pm- watch water light parade 10:00pm- bed Wednesday, March 31: 5:45am- wake up and breakfast 6:15am- get bus for Animal Kingdom 6:30am- Animal Kingdom (EXTRA MAGIC HOURS) 7:00am- park opens 12:30pm- lunch at Rainforest Café 1:00pm- get bus to Hollywood Studios 1:30pm- Hollywood Studios EXTRA MAGIC HOURS 3:00pm- Block Party Bash Parade 8:15pm- get in line for Fantasmic 8:45pm- Fantasmic show 11:30pm- park closes 12:00am- get bus to campground 12:30am- campground; bed Thursday, March 1: 5:45am- wake up and breakfast 6:15am- get bus for Magic Kingdom 6:30am- Magic Kingdom (to watch opening ceremony) 7:00am- park opens 2:00pm- lunch at crystal Palace 3:00pm- A Dream Come True Parade 3:45pm- get bus to Epcot 4:15pm- arrive at Epcot EXTRA MAGIC HOURS 9:00pm- Illuminations fireworks show 12:00am- park closes 12:30am- get bus to campground 12:45am- campground; bed Friday, March 2: 6:30am- wake up and breakfast 7:15am- get bus to Hollywood studios 7:30am- Hollywood Studios (to watch opening show) 8:00am- park opens 2:00pm- lunch at 50’s prime time OR sci-fi theater 3:00pm- get bus to Magic Kingdom 3:30pm- Magic Kingdom EXTRA MAGIC HOURS 10:00pm- wishes fireworks show 2:00am- park closes 2:30am- get bus to campground 2:45pm- campground; bed Saturday, March 3: 7:00am- wake up and breakfast 7:15am- walk on the trail 9:00am- pack up tents and load up van 9:45am- check out of campground 10:00am- drive to Blizzard Beach 10:15am- Blizzard Beach 4:45pm- leave 5:00pm- dinner at Ponderosa steak house (across the street from old town) 5:45pm- leave 7:30pm- arrive home more

Resolved Question: Where is the best place to vacation in Florida?

Where is the best place to vacation in Florida for a couple in their early 30's? We won't be taking any kids and we would look forward to relaxation and a bit of socializing and drinking. Any suggestions for fun, interesting places to visit would be appreciated. Also any recommendations for really good lodging that is reasonably priced would be great, too. I know this is a wide open question, but we are open to about anything as far as suggestions for an overall good Florida vacation. Also important to note...we will be driving from Illinois and plan on having the date of May 9-14 available. Thanks for the stroke of genius, first responder. Resolved Question: How does this wedding sound. Do you think I'll be disappointed when its all said and done?

After what seems like YEARS of searching, I think we finally found the perfect venue. Its a YMCA. Now before you judge me, hear me out. We live in upstate, NY, smack dab between Saratoga and Lake George (LG being one of the most popular vacation destinations in the northeast and Saratoga being famous for the race track). We have literally thousands of venues to choose from but all were either too expensive or just not us. In northern LG there is a "resort" called Silver Bay. It is a YMCA in the sense that it offers what seems like unlimited amounts of activities for people of all ages, as well as had lodging on campus (they have a large, quite nice hotel but also dorms and lodges). If we choose to go with this place, we will be having our ceremony close to the water. I dont think much will be needed as far as decorations for this space as the views are gorgeous. I love the look of the shephards hook placed at the end of each isle with a pomander attached ( http://media.theknot.com/ImageStage/Objects/0003/0050486/large_image.jpg ). I plan to make these myself using carnations. Carnations get a bad rep but if used right, they can be quite lovely. We are both as far from religious as a couple can get so it will be a very quick ceremony. I'm thinking about asking a cousin who I am very close with to get ordained and marry us. If that doesnt work out, we will just hire a JOP. Silver Bay offers a few different choices as far as catering. All of their banquets are buffet style. They have a more traditional dinner menu (beef, chicken and fish) but they also have what they call the "Upgraded BBQ". Basically its BBQ ribs, chicken, corn on the cob, baked beans, baked potatoes, tossed salad & strawberry shortcake (I'm hoping to get a slight discount since we wont need the desert). They offer this for $21.00 ($10.50 for kids). The traditional dinner is twice as much. This venue doesnt supply the alcohol but we are permitted to bring our own. We pay a per-person per-hour charge for the alcohol because their servers will serve the guests their alcohol. I'm totally okay with this charge because this way, the guests have no idea that we supplied our own alcohol. My fiance also assures me that this will be considerably cheaper than having an open bar through the venue. We are leaning towards the BBQ option. We are planning on getting married memorial day weekend 2011. I personally think that a BBQ reception on that specific weekend is definitely suitable. The wedding site is atleast an hour drive for pretty much everyone, so we assume that a number of the guests will probably stay the night. They resort will even host a private bonfire for us and our guests. I figure we will purchase a bunch of smore making supplies and hopefully we will have some beer left over from the wedding. I think this would give us the perfect chance to relax with those nearest and dearest. They also offer a brunch banquet option for pretty cheap. If the budget allows maybe we will arrange this for the guests who decide to stay (we will know ahead of time since they will have to make reservations). How do you think this sounds? My fiance and I arent really high maintenance people. We would be just as happy staying home and having burgers on the grill as we would going out to a nice restaurant. The reason I ask if you think I will be disappointed is because for the longest time I wanted the big formal sit down dinner reception with white gloved servers. Well, then reality hit and I realized that there was no way we could afford this on our own. It is important to us to pay for our own wedding. Neither set of parents is overly wealthy but would give what they could. We're successful adults (only 23) who can afford to pay for our own wedding (within reason). If we wanted to take money from my parents, we could afford much more but I am a firm believer that unless you are 19 and still living in your parents house, you are an adult and should be responsible for covering the cost of your own wedding. I am secretly hoping that my parents buy my wedding dress but it would be okay if they dont. What do you think of the idea for our wedding? Think I'll be disappointed after the fact that I didnt go with the lavish, formal affair. Sorry this is so long. Thanks for the input. more

Resolved Question: Pick me a nice vacation - I've never had one before!!?

Other than a day-trip to St. Augustine, I've never been on a proper vacation in my life. I've only traveled to visit family, and that was to MN or WV so go figure. I finally have a week off and some money to spend, so I want go on a vacation, and there are so many options I'm not sure what to do. I'm not picky, so long as there are a few factors I'll stick to: I live in Texas, fairly new here. I am looking for something inexpensive (read: total of $2000 or less with gas, food, motel/other lodging and attractions included), and want to stick to warm climates, so anywhere in FL, AL, MS, LA, TX, NM, AZ is good. I like things like theme parks, history/art museums depending on the cultural background, and am interested in doing either really relaxing things (think beach lounging, fruity drinks) or really challenging for a beginner (think hiking, camping, etc, but in a venue where I can have nice pics and maybe a souveniur or two to bring home) Basically, I know if I go to LA, I can do Mardi Gras/FL I can do Disney or beaches, and so am looking for other suggestions for off-the-beaten-path type vacations. One-stop or multi-stop; I have ten days! :)Notes: I've lived in FL and done Disney, so not looking for that experience again. I resided Tampa and Orlando, so if suggesting something there, let me know whats down in Miami or up the panhandle - NOT a non-stop party like I hear southbeach is! :) On TX - I live in San Antonio. :) Am planning to get around the weekend-getaways for Texas surrounding area throughout the year - February is my one week with time to T...R...A...V...E...L :) more

my boyfriend and i are looking to take a vacation this winter and we would like to go to someplace wintery, like a mountain resort or lodge or something like that. we were thinking of someplace like Colorado/Wyoming/Montana, etc. (in the united states!) however, we don't know of any good places to go and searching online is not doing much good. we want to know of a place that it a little secluded and romantic but a place where there is still stuff to do that a couple can enjoy (hopefully a place with a hot tub also). we are not looking for a ski resort because we wont be doing any skiing while we are on vacation. maybe next time but this time we are just looking for a relaxing getaway. our budget isnt super cheap but we cant afford a $3000 a week place either. any help and suggestions would be great. more

Resolved Question: Where is a fun and cool place to stay in British Columbia?

Taking a family vacation over Christmas break and want a fun place to stay. Both as far as location and a hotel/lodge/cabin. Something in a scenic location that won't be super expensive. We'd travel from Seattle, so north/east BC might be too far. more

Voting Question: my boyfriend wants to go to the great wolf lodge, and wants to share a room with his parents. I dont?

is that ok? I mean we would be spending lots of money here. We have two kids and I would like to spend time with them on this mini vaca.. I think if we share a room with them, I feel like my vacation is being taken over. besides the fact I dont really enjoy spending time with them. My boyfriend is arguing that we are going to save a lot of money and so will his parents. he is a mammas boy. The other family members are going to, why cant they share with one of them???? grrr more

Voting Question: Cheap New Year's Eve Trip for Young Couple?

Hello, My gf and I are looking for a cheap New Year's Eve destination that we can enjoy together.Has anyone had any good experiences in the northeast with cheaper but enjoyable vacations? I'm from Cleveland, she's from 2 hours north of Philly, we both go to Penn State. So some viable destinations would be Holiday Valley Ski Resort in NY, Niagara Falls, Atlantic City, NYC, etc. We've been to all of these places however, so I was hoping to find some sort of diamond in the rough within a few hours of central PA. Or, if any travel gurus should happen to read this and could link me to some super secret flight and lodging discounts to somewhere fun, that would be even better. Total trip shouldn't cost more than $800 or so. Thanks! more

Resolved Question: Where can I find slope side rooms in Kimberley, BC while on vacation in December?

I live in Florida, and will be visiting Kimberley, British Columbia (Dec 17th - 21st). I would love to stay at a hotel / resort that has slope side rooms however I am having trouble finding a place online. THe only place I did find was Trickle Creek Lodge, however their slope side rooms are all booked during that time. more

Resolved Question: Where and how should I plan a road trip for an eighteen year old and two seventeen year olds?

My friends and I want to take a road trip during our senior year spring break. We live in Illinois, and they are not allowed to go anywhere that is a two day drive, any big tourist attractions, or out of the country, so Canada, driving to California, and Disney World are all no-gos. They are allowed to fly, so we could fly to California. I was wondering what kind of problems we would run into with booking hotels. Our two ideas are flying to California, where my 21 year old brother lives (I'm sure we could book a hotel under his name) or drive to South Carolina, where we still run into the lodging problem. Any suggestions for alternate vacation destinations would be helpful too. more

Resolved Question: Can someone please explain why married visitors are refused lodging on base?

I'm trying to get some information about military bases. My daughter is in the Army. Her husband is in the Marines. She is stationed at Fort Bragg, NC while he is in Japan. Once, when he came to visit her because she was having emergency surgery, he was not allowed to rent a room on base. So he was forced to stay with some of her friends. Now, she is in Japan to visit him for a week (and attend some ball) and when she tried to check in, even though he made sure there was a room for her weeks ago!) they denied her lodging. Some BS about the wrong paperwork? I don't quite understand it, and I don't know if I'm getting the whole story. Everyone knows how bad military pay is, so I don't understand why people serving their country aren't allowed to stay on base when there are rooms available? They can't afford off base hotels at nearly $100/night for over a week so what are our service members to do? Everything was all set until she actually got there. It's just so frustrating the lies that are told. So she's stuck in Japan, practically homeless, wondering where she will sleep for the next week and a half. Has anyone else ever had problems like this? How do military base hotels work? Are they less expensive or is it just impossible to visit spouses unless you're both on vacation at the same time and just decide to go home to family's houses? Thanks for any info, much appreciated. more

Resolved Question: Cali Vacation!! Where Should we go?

I'm taking a bus trip with some friends to California in August of next year. We're trying to think of different places to go but none of us have been there before... We want to go to places that correspond to these things: 21& up crazy wild partying a little rest and relaxation Some Exploring and sight-seeing and of course the BEACH Each of us is bringing $1200 aside from travel expenses and lodging. ANY IDEAS??? (especially from California natives!!) more

Resolved Question: How do I plan a ski trip near Denver? Any suggestions for a beginner?

This is the first time the hubby and I will be taking a trip away from the kids. We'll be flying into Denver beginning February 2010 and staying for 3 full days and 1/2 a day. I've checked other suggestions and reviews but maybe narrowing down to what we are expecting for our vacation might help get the right answer. 1. What are we looking to spend on classes, ski rentals, lifts, etc? Are there any places near the resorts or on the way that we can get rentals cheaper? 2. Besides skiing and snowboarding, what else is there to do on the mountains? 3. Where is the best place for a beginner to learn on average slopes but beautiful area? 4. Where can we get the best experience? 5. Lodging on the slope resorts... Any newer and nicer, clean and well maintained places with good food? 5. Will need someplace that has descent transportation from Denver Airport to the place. Any suggestions? I don't want to drive. I'm a horrible driver on dry land and probably not a wise idea to drive in snow either. 6. Are there any places to stay near the slopes that are nice (not on their resorts)? Thanks for all your help in advance! more

Resolved Question: Budget snow vacation!?

Hi. My wife and I are new to the Portland area. I want to take her on at least a three day four night trip to go snowboarding, I had some places in mind like Mt.Bachelor(been there once for the day and loved it), Not sure about the resorts in WA state, and I think Canada and Idaho are pretty expensive. The thing is we would like it on the cheap, and I know that snow anything costs a lot. But I am looking at ideas, so if anyone knows or can recommend a place where they had a good experience, lodging; ski-lift ticket; surroundings etc. please let me know. Thank you. more

Resolved Question: FINNALLY have employers looking at me! now how do i choose which offer!?

ok so got laid off mid aug and FIANNLY the second job fair and NUMBEROUS past applications got me somewhere! Not sure where to start so here's me: -18 years old with resume built up..have been working since age 16. -Took 3 years of computer networking courses in high school which lead ----into an internship that gave me 9 months experience in the IT and engineering dept. working in the office at a prestigious steel mill! awesome!! Couldn't have learned half of what I know now from the classroom! Having hands on experience rocks! right now im living with my gparents trying to help them..however looks like he will have to go in to a nursing home..one person cant keep him out..doc's afriad of my health going down the drain too. Love the gparents but dont even have a space to hang my clothes so am wanting a job that will give me enough doe to get my own place..however small it may be this first job will help me get into computers...not exaclty sure if thats what i want to do for the rest of my life but its what i studied for3 years. most likely would not make much above min wage ..some employers will want to hire and send ppl to school rather than pay full price for a person with a lot of experience-- in some places at least this is what ive found to be true. This second job is kina nice in benifits and am interested in criminal justice. it would give me enough doe to get my own place as well as be able to afford things like truck insurance under my own name! and have off days ..working for gov may open up grant opportunities and that leaves time to actually study even if it is to get an online degree.....that is if i pass inspection...ill be able to get in thorugh the screening prossess the only thing im worried about is my knee..its well healed and can do anything with it but dislocated it a few months shy of turning 12. Got to talk to a training Coordinator from one company have already applied to...when I showed her and started explaining the internship her jaw dropped...no joke. She gave me this one guys number and said if he did not call me in a few days for me to call her! It didn't matter that I don't have a college degree or certificate awesome right! (the company has scholarship opportunities!!!) She said instead of working in the company stores I could be working with her...basically in the main office because they are CURRENTLY LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO UNDERSTANDS IT AKA Computer networking!! With the info she handed me found the benifits are: -Scholarships -Health Benifits, voluntary dental insurance, life insurance, rx discountcard -voluntary cancer insurance -paid weekly -opportunity for advancement but here's the other job I could get into that would train me...(Correctional officer for Texas) would have to go to get a screening ...hotel, gas, food for that i would have to pay myself unfortunately but the recruiter said once I get a call back the state pays for the 6 weeks training...all the lodging, transportation ect. benefits: -Salary is several dollars over min wage (downside only get paid once a month) the longer you are there (in months) the better the pay raises -state pays 100% employees health benefits even preventive care benefits, and prescription payment help, dental and life insurance program available -Uniforms (including laundry experience) and equipment is furnished at no cost - free meals while on duty -legal protection plan -vacation, sick leave, paid holidays, retirement -work is four days on four days off...basically .12 hours a day for four days...My aunt worked a schedule like this and loved it...I think this would be a nice schedule that I could stick to as well -Once I reach age 21 I could switch to a federal prison which will most likely have more benefits? ANY ADVICE APPRECIATED!!! more

Resolved Question: Disney rides!!! sorry for the re-post! help plan my disney getaway?

In November, my family and I are taking a trip to Disney in Florida!! I haven't been there in about 10 years! Grr. I remember loving a certain few things, but as a kid, well, I might not want to do the same stuff this time! And of course- Disney is most definitely updated since then! My family and I are staying at the Wilderness Lodge, I hear its very nice. The last few times I have been there I stayed was at The Dolphin, The Swan and The Boardwalk. I remember loving Epcot, and of course Splash Mountain :-) I am traveling with my mom and my aunt, and my cousin who is 11. And of course- at his age, he wants to be a tough guy, and go on everything! I am not such a big ride person, I don't do upside-down roller-coasters. And I'm not the biggest fan of heights! I want to make this short vacation fun, and memorable. And I don't want to be a bore. Please name some MUST go-on rides while I'm there. I already heard I have to go on Test Track, and Soario. Or something along those lines. And my cousin is pushing me to go on some rock n roller coaster, and Tower of Terror (Which just the name sounds scary to me)! Keep in mind- I have tight spaces!! So nothing like that please. I know I sound so retarted for even posting a question like this, but I need to know before I go!! Please also list some attractions, rides, and even restaurants we should go to! I forgot the name, but there is an Underwater Aquarium Restaurant there too! Would love to try that. Basically anything you think I need to know, answer! Thanks so much guys!!! more
