Ok so I booked a trip to Las Vegas which I will be flying out on March 16, the total cost of the trip booked flight + hotel was $360. I have to say, if you ever have to stay at APGs temporary lodging for more than a month, it's not worth it. The husband and I had to stay in the pet friendly rooms which is the furthest building away. Our dog is small and very house broken, he is obedient and will hold urges until we take him out -- regardless, they asked us to cage our dog if we had to leave (he's only 17 lbs). We decided to just leave him in one of the back bedrooms of the small smokey two bedroom apartment. One day when the maid came, I said she can clean while I did some work on my laptop (it was just me there at the time) and it wasn't much to clean, we didn't even use their beds... and she said "uh we don't do that while you're here". I told her to just change the trash and leave. A day later we had note saying they will be there to clean since we left the do not disturb sign on the door. The rooms smelled of smoke (although they stress no smoking) and the heat is controlled -- it will stay blasting and you have to turn on the AC or open the windows in the winter time. We used our own air mattress, sheets, pillows and towels instead of their beds and towels. They provided us with two bedrooms and a kitchen with unfinished cabinets, the inside had splinters all over it. Needless to say we bought our own paper dishes and cups. The rooms are all circa 1970's we laid sheets down on the couch and sprayed Lysol over the chairs. We had to do the same when we asked to change rooms. The shower was at least clean. They charge an arm and a leg, at least the laundry room is free but not the best. Here's a short story I just wrote -rough draft- from the writing prompt "What would you do if you could change one thing in the past?". It is based on a series of world ending catastrophes and the last human's struggle for survival (Well.... she's the last human for a bit of the story hehe). It focuses on the people not so much the disasters. “Your World Ends Today” I stood on top of the mountain surveying the wreckage of this latest disaster. For the last year, every town had suffered horrendous damages, and I don’t know how anyone survived. Tsunamis, earthquakes and volcanoes erupting destroyed civilisation as we all knew it, and for all I knew, on that fateful day I could have been the last survivor. The last man standing as it were, but I didn’t feel like celebrating- why would I, in this lonely world? I walked over to the old lodge, one of the only buildings left, and sat down inside, opening one of the cupboards. Five cans of beans, expiration date- five months ago. A loaf of bread, stale and rotting, lying discarded next to a bar of chocolate. Smiling in relief that I wasn’t quite out of food just yet, that I might survive, I opened the can of beans and ate it quickly, leaving everything else lying there. Staring out at the room around me I groaned, trying not to remember my life before all of this horror. Hearing a crash behind me, I ran out of the lodge onto the snowy mountain. A man was standing opposite me, glaring at me with cold eyes. “Are you… Kathy?” he asked, hesitant. “Yes!” I said, feeling ecstatic. “I have something to ask you, a favour” I narrowed my eyes. “If you’re asking for food, then you’re not getting any. I’ve got to look after myself-“ He laughed. “No, no, I don’t need food. I’ve got enough of that. I know a way that this all could have been stopped. Don’t you want to hear what it is?” “No! It’s too late for scientists to save anybody- even if there was anybody left to save” The man remained quiet for a moment then shook his head. “If you could go back and save them, would you, whatever the cost?” “Of course I would” I snapped. “Say it, say you would, whatever the cost, say those words!” he urged, and ignoring how stupid he sounded, at his insistence I whispered the words. His eyes glowed red and he smirked. “You shall get your wish”. The world swirled around me in a haze of colours and I felt myself falling to the ground. Slowly, I stood up and stared around me, to see a… supermarket! Gasping, I bit my lip. How could there be a supermarket? How? That would mean that… I ran towards the supermarket as fast as I could and was astonished to see a woman standing behind the counter, smiling. “What day is it?” I asked, terrified and confused. “February 1st 2010, are you drunk?” she asked and I shook my head, smiling. It was last year! The day before everything happened. Maybe it had all been a dream… or maybe that boy with the strange red eyes had done something. Eyes wide, I realised that I had been given a chance to save somebody. To do something. Would I have time to save anybody at all? Running back outside, I found my way back to the place that had been my best friend’s home, and stood outside the door, staring through the window to see both of our families sitting round the table. Ecstatic I open the door and run inside, forgetting what I knew of the future. “You ok?” Ed,my friend, says and I stand there frozen, remembering. “Umm… no. I need to tell you something” Frowning, he shrugged and followed me outside. “Listen, I know you won’t believe me and I get that but we need to get out of the city, go up onto the mountain just outside of town and stay there –“ He starts to laugh. “Yeah, right, good one.” “I’m serious! And I’m telling you, I promise, I’m telling the truth” “But if you were, then the newspapers, TV-“ “Oh, they won’t know. Nobody does. In June, my family and I are going to be staying in a cabin at the Fort Wilderness Disney resort in Florida. We've stayed in other Disney resorts before (Animal Kingdom Lodge and the Polynesian), but we've never stayed there before. Is it nice? I read reviews, and most people said it was great. The few that didn't complained about the "swamp" and the travel time. I've done research, and it doesn't seem as if the travel time is all that bad. Also, the "rustic-ness" won't bother us since we spend a lot of time in a little cabin in the forest near our home, and we're not from a city. We live in a town that's surrounded by forest. So a little woods won't bother us. Also, how much room is in the cabins? There will be four of us (me, my parents and my 8 year old sister). Ok, so my name is hannah and I am an eighth grade girl. I am pretty popular in my lass and I am the head cheerleader. My school does alot of five day overnight field trips and I just started wetting the bed three weeks ago. So the night before we went on a feild trip, I was packing my bag and I packed five goodnites diapers for the trip. the next day in school, We were doing buddy packing checks so I secretly took out the goodnites and hid them in my locker. After the buddy checks, I placed the diapers back into my bag and loaded it onto the bus. When we arrived at the camp site, we did our normal routines and went into our cabins at about 8:30. I opened up my bag and found that there was a hole where I failed to zip it up all the way and all of the goodnites but one had fallen out. I stressed out but I didn't want to tell my teachers about my issue because I thought they would look at me differently. So I put on the diaper and went to sleep. When I woke up I reached my hand down and sure enough I had wet the goodnite. Without knowing what to do, I put it back into my duffel bag and zipped it up. we did our day as planned and when nightime rolled around I was stressing big time. I had no clue what to do so I stupidy put back on the wet goodnite and went to sleep. I woke up to all of the other girls in my cabin getting ready and an overflowing goodnite. I slowly crawled out of my sleeping bag and down from the bunk. I was soaking wet and my once white pajamas were mow slightly yellow and see-through. everyome could see that I wet the bed and that I was wearing a goodnite diaper. the teacher asked me take off my pajama pants in front of all of the girls to get me cleaned up and I was there wearing only a soaked goodnite. everyone was laughing and when I arrived late to breakfast the girls had told everyone that I wore diapers and I wet the bed. everyone, including all of the most popular boys were staring at me snickering. We were too far out of town for the teachers to go get any diapers so I had to stay in one of the lodge rooms all by myself sleeping naked with a plastic sheet on my bed. This travelogue started when our Production & Operations Management adviser, Mrs. Fe Fernandine, told us that we would be having a plant tour in Manila, a pack of excitement embedded in our minds. Mixed emotions have crafted. She gave details about our tour and explained to why we should execute this activity. Working on the Schedule C- Whew !!! not all meal or grocery receipts kept nor gas receipts to travel from hotel to home when contractors were present I asked if there was a per-diem rate that could be used for meals/ groceries and was told no, had to be on a daily meal by meal receipts. Her son has also lived there all of his life and was at the hotel also. what are the main items that most people forget to put on the Schedule C ? What should we NOT forget to list ? I will start off with this admission I was very drunk. I was also in my own home at the time of this event. At approximately 12:35 am My doorbell was rung by an officer of the Grants Pass police department. I excused myself from my company and opened the door for the officer. He informed me that he had gotten a complaint of my music being too loud and demanded that I turn it down. It is at this point that things become hazy. Without responding to the officer I attempted to shut the door and engage the deadbolt. He then proceeded to kick in my door and throw me to the ground he pulled his taser on my company and screamed at my girlfriend to get to the floor after she had come in the room after getting out of bed to see what the commotion was about. It was later that he had to inform the other officers (there were three in total) that I told him no which my company did not hear me say either. He also demanded that I move out of "His" town for listening to the NYC hip hop group Gang Starr. After being handcuffed on my own floor (which were extremely tight I still have marks on my wrists and numbness in my right hand two days later) I informed them that I had very bad knees and would need a little more assistance to get off the floor. At this point the officer jerked me up causing damage to my shoulder which was already hurt from years of being an athlete. At some point while I was on the floor the cop also rubbed my face on the ground hard enough to cause rug burns on the bridge of my nose and forehead. I'm now being charged with a class 1 misdemeanor of disorderly conduct and interfering with a police officer. What should I do just take the charge or fight i t I have not had a chance to talk to a lawyer yet. Most everybody I talk to say that I should at least lodge a complaint against the officer. The police station also won't let me see the police report until after the case is closed.I did not resist I shut the door and was headed to the stereo to turn it down when the officer kicked in the door and took me to the ground I did not have time to resist.The cop did not call for back up they were also on my porch from the very beginning. I have been using the Red Barn filled bones for my dogs for several years. I have always used the long bone type bones for them. At the dog show two weeks ago I decided to try something different and purchased the filled knuckle bone. The other night upon noticing my Rough Collie getting up and down with the bone a few times to change position-completely unlike her- I discovered that the bone was lodged upon her lower jaw. I tried to get it off to no avail and yelled for my husband to come help. My dog is a completely trusting and well trained dog who stood there as we tried to get it off. I was about to call the emergency vet, when my husband told me to grab my dogs tongue and get it out of the bone-which then gave him enough room to dislodge the bone from her dog. I shudder to think what might have happened had I not been paying attention to my dog while she chewed this bone. With this danger, I do not feel this is a safe product to be on the market. At the very least I think they should choose bones who's openings are not so large that they could get stuck on a dogs jaw. I haven't lost enough weight: I'm as revolting as ever, and am sure to have my nauseating weight increase even more with the ways in which they shove it down my throat. Food. I can as good as see your mind formulating insults that properly describe me, know you hate me just as much as everyone does. As if as a confirmation to my thoughts, you pull out a tray of cookies and offer them to me; you're probably eager to see the fat girl scramble to devour them all. I refuse to give you the satisfaction and instead shake my head no. I can vaguely remember a time when upon seeing a chocolate-chip cookie I thought not of jiggling thighs and the foul three hundred and eighty nine calories within, but instead of it's mouth-watering relish. Oh, how dreadful I was! So sickeningly fat! Tuning out your monotonous questions and theories has been effortless enough so far, but one statement hits me hard and sends a violent shudder from my brain to my toes. "You've gained weight, the doctors tell me. You're up to eighty pounds." You declare with gross pleasure, smiling a wide, yellowed grin. There's a piece of lettuce lodged between your front two teeth and seeing this sends a wave of inexplicably intense revulsion and hatred throughout my entire body. I want to wrench your vulture-like head from her lumpy body and snap each of those flawless manicured crimson nails in half. Excruciatingly vicious thoughts began to taint my mind and it was evident at that moment that every fat-ridden fiber of my being despised you with a passionate wrath. Perhaps you interpreted the choleric blackness twisting my face, for your previously thrilled beaming has turned grim. "Can I ask you something?" You query somberly, casting me a somewhat perplexed sideways glance. I want to stand up and screech and strike you across the face. I want to experience the intoxicating gratification of seeing your face become the same bloodied color as your nails, just like the overwhelming satisfaction of losing another pound. But something or someone silently tells me not to. So I nod my head, scowling. "Why do you think you do this? Why are you starving yourself?" You're nearly tearful. At first I don't know what to say. Then immediately the answer seems quite clear, as if it had been there the whole time. "I'm not starving myself... I'm perfecting my emptiness." Somehow I choke this out, and the feebleness of my voice petrifies me. And suddenly, everything is terrifying. Your pensive face, the looming gray walls that confine me, the inky, approaching shadows: all frighten me into an unbearable state of mind. My breathing rapid and uneven and my feet wobbling beneath me, I shove myself off that straight-backed chair and burst from your trap. My feet carry me to my empty room of their own accord and I somehow find myself collapsing on my knees onto the frigid hospital floor and lifting my mattress up, searching desperately for the stolen bottle of pain-killers lurking beneath it. My hand closes around the bottle and I have never felt such a passionate relief, a reassurance that brings chilling goosebumps to my arms and a smirk to my chattering lips. Briskly and with feverish delight I pour a glass of water from the pitcher placed upon my bed-side table. If only takes me a minute of anxious struggle to unscrew the top off the pain-killers, and only another minute to down the entire content of the bottle with the aid of my water. Instantly, I feel exhausted and keel over onto my bumpy mattress. Upon this crumpling, a series of memories begins to reel inside my thoughts. Was this my life flashing before me eyes? How cliche. I see mother, and she's not dead at all, but alternatively she's alive and just as enchanting as ever, offering me her hand. I am ecstatic. I see my father and my baby brother chuckling and grinning, father wiping his glasses on his black polo shirt. I grow happier. Higher Ground was a tv show that starred Hayden Christensen about a group of troubled kids sent to this lodge where Joe Lando was the head counselor. It was amazing and the only place I can find to watch it is on YouTube and not all of the episodes are good quality. At our local spa, as with most, it isn't out of the ordinary for everyone to walk around in the buff. In fact, nearly 99% of the men do, so it doesn't bother me. What does though is this. I am very well endowed and when I sit in the steam rooms or dry sauna, gay men approach me and either comment on "it" or want to stare at it. Why does having a large package entitle them to lewd and out in the open comments like that? Covering up isn't quite the solution, since everyone sits like that, and in the sauna nothing sucks (no pun intended) worse than a hot, dry and scratchy towel. What would be a polite response? I'm a pretty open guy, not one of those homo-phobes that punches you in the face or anything. I was just wondering if anyone else deals with that, and what their reaction or response is. Mad! – That’s what they call me.It’s true that I am nervous…very nervous, but why do they call me mad? That fever I had last year – it sharpened all my senses, and above all, my sense of hearing became the sharpest.I could almost hear everything on this earth, how then, am I mad? Listen, you will see how calmly I tell you the whole story, proving to you that I’m not mad – It is difficult to say how this particular thought had entered my mind, but once it entered my mind, it haunted me day and night, and the particular thought was – a MURDER! A murder of an old man, the old man whose lodge I had rented. He had never wronged me or anything like that; it was all because of his EYE! One of his eyes was normal, but the other one, resembled to that of a vulture. Whenever I saw his vulture eye, I had a shiver run down my spine, and so, with great planning and determination, I made up my mind to kill him and get rid of his eye forever. You think I am mad don’t you, only if you saw me preparing the murder, how careful and wise I was! And how cunning I was on the D-day! I was never kinder to the old man than the night I had decided to kill him, I moved to the old man’s room very slowly, and I slowly unlatched the door and the pushed the door ahead so that I could peek in, it took me almost an hour to place my whole head inside and see the old man – another proof of me not being a mad man; and there I was, one step away from my goal, I was so glad that I almost laughed out loud, but I had controlled myself well, but he still heard me and turned around, exposing his evil eye to me. I tightened my grip on my dagger and just when I was about to charge, the old man sprang up on his bed cried out “Who’s there!? “, giving me the shock of my life. I was so startled that I lay down low and still for the longest hour of my life. I did not dare to move a single muscle even when I could hear the old man snore; and then again I resumed to my work….this time I moved even more slow, so slow that the minute hand on my watch was faster than my pace, but I finally reached the old man, and with a loud yell, I thrust the dagger deep into his heart and the deed was done…. I was free from the vulture eye’s torture. Just to be sure, I placed my finger under his nose for five minutes, and yes, he was dead, stone dead; and to conceal his dead body – I pulled out three planks from the floor of his room and placed the corpse carefully and replaced the planks so neatly that not a single eye could detect anything wrong. So, having done my task, I went to bed peacefully and with great pleasure because now I had nothing to fear. As morning arrived, I heard a knock at my door. Three mean stood there, they introduced themselves to me as the police force, “A shriek was heard by a neighbor during the night” one of them explained, “This neighbor suspected foul play and had reported to the police station, and we are here to investigate”. I welcomed them with great warmth and told them that the shriek was made by me during a nightmare, I also let them search the entire house all they wanted and we finally settled in the old man’s room and starting talking about common things. And by the way the book's ending ends with "me" hearing the old man's heart beat ALOUD and getting all mad and surrendering to the police.....and its kinda abruptly ends there...
