Voting Question: Are dogs allowed at Luckenbach Dance Hall?

Looking at planning a camping trip in a couple weeks. The dog friendly B&B in town is booked and the campgrounds don't allow dogs in cabins/shelters. Taking the dog with us to festivals, dance halls and esp camping is a big deal for us - she enjoys the attention and its that many less hours a week she spends sitting at home waiting for us to get off work. Does anyone know if we would be allowed to take her into the Dance Hall grounds for the chili cook off that weekend? Even if it wasn't against the campground rules, leaving her tied up anywhere is not an option. I emailed the venue but who knows how long it will take to get a reply.I thought my city was tied to my name? I apologize for the confusion, Luckenbach is in TX.... as in the song "Luckenbach TX".For those of you WWW's, that is a couple hours outside of Austin TX, where just about every other block there is a restaurant with a patio that is dog friendly (which is compliant with local & State codes as long as a separate entrance is provided). I like taking my dog places because she likes crowds and live music. Often the one introducing us to new people while also serving as an instrument for teaching inexperienced children how to properly and safely approach an animal - which I think is just as important as learning to swim.Additionally with the family attending, we would have to pay a stranger to visit the house to take care of the dog, which is not worth it to us as we work 50 hours a week, we feel it is only responsible to include the dog in our activities where possible.So... anyone ever BEEN to Luckenbach TX with Waylon and Willie a more

Resolved Question: Does anyone know of a cabin rental anywhere that accepts very large dogs?

I have a Great Dane and a Weim. I would like to find this dream place where large dogs are allowed and don't need to be leashed 100% of their stay. I have seen that on so many sites. How can you call that a vacation. So im looking a place that is pet friendly and lots of allowances for dogs. I know they have these rules because someone screwed it up for us but not all dogs/owners need to be punished. more

Resolved Question: cabin rentals in Connecticut?

Resolved Question: Is this a good werewolf plot?

I have always liked werewolf stories, being part native american the wolf is also my totem. My problem is I am always coming up with werewolf story ideas or I work out a "rough" plot only to get writer's block when I try to start typing... Does anyone know how to deal with writer's block when you are trying to write? P.S I am writing just for fun, none thing will ever be published. Here's the Plot so far; Connor McGarth (blonde hair, blue-green eyes) is 12 or 14 yrs old kid who has recently lost his mother (car accident), he is sent to live with his father, Aiden, who he only sees during the summer months. The two do the usual hunting and fishing stuff on those visits, with one strange thing...Aiden sometimes doesn't want him to leave the house on certain nights. Anyway, Connor arrives with some livestock he and his mom had been raising (couple milk goats, chickens, sheep, geese, horses and livestock protection dogs)... Things seem fine as everyone settles in except Thor (Connor's German shepherd keeps growling at his dad), while out walking Connor meets a strange man-Abe Thorn who isn't too friendly. That night (a full moon) the animals are acting funny, the dogs take off with Connor close behind. Connor gets attacked by a large wolf but the dogs attack it, a black wolf suddenly appears and drives it off, the wolf shapeshifts into Aiden. When Connor wakes bandaged up he knows his dad is a werewolf (the town people seem to consider the wolves as guardians and protectors, they worship them). His dad explains that the wolf he drove off was another werewolf (form another pack, the alpha will not be pleased)... Aiden is a wolf biologist; that was how he had gotten bitten and turned into a werewolf. He kept Connor away because he could be in danger with Hunters (people who hunt werewolves down), who would kill him thinking he was a werewolf. Connor was born a human, not sure if I should have him be infected from the werewolf bite. I'd like the idea of the dad being a werewolf but the kid staying human... Here's my second Idea; Hunters (or maybe another werewolf tribe) attacks the farm, cabin goes up in flames, some animals are killed. Aiden, Connor, and some of there livestock make it across a river and disappear into the night. Aiden then has to take care of his child and animals with little supplies or money, ummm, what do you think.. Anyway that is all I have so far; Not sure where to take this story though, any suggestions would be nice, help me get the creative juices flowing again... more

Resolved Question: Would a 10 week old Husky be able to fit under a air plane seat?

I'm planning on getting a Husky, I've done a lot of research on them and have decided that one would fit my life perfectly :) The only problem is that the only breeder that I can find that I feel I can trust lives in Toronto (I'm in NFL). I'm going to need to go to Toronto and pick up the pup. West-jet is a air line that is apparently very good and pet-friendly. They let you have a dog up in the cabin, as long as it can fit under the seat in a cage. I know the measurements but I'm having a hard time picturing how big a husky 10 week old is. So do you guys have any idea? I don't want to stress the little guy out. I also posted this in the Air travel section, but I don't know which one will be more helpful. more

Voting Question: What are the funnest jobs that are beneficial to the world in someway?

I just got out of high school and my parents are continuously asking me what i want to do with my life and i say speech pathologist cuze i know that's a job that i would be able to do and satisfy them at the same time. But truth is, i don't really wanna do that for the rest of my life...and i don't wanna go to university for like 6 years for some thing that im not passionate about. But on the other hand i don't wanna disappoint them. If they had it there way i'd be something like a doctor. So i guess what im tryin to ask here is for some suggestions for fun jobs that benefit either the enviorment or society or animals or something. i would like to do something fun but it has to make a difference in the world or else what im doing would be useless. Im very artistic and creative, good with kids and animals, good at giving advice and solving peoples problems and im a really fun, crazy outgowing person, i always tell the truth and in the end always do whats right, i have an obsession with snakes, i like building things, i have a short attention span but great patience when needed, i love nature, if i had the choice i would live off the land in a big old log cabin with just me n some dogs for the rest of my life (too bad winning the lottery wasn't a career option), im very optimistic, i'm great at doing make up and hair and i have a good eye for fashion, i'm very social and friendly although i enjoy my alone time, i love reading and righting, i could NEVER work in an office, i am very open minded, i don't put up with stupid s**t (aka dumb assholes), i need a job that's not extremely repetitive, i need to be always moving around and doing something when i work, i cant do math at all therefor i refuse to do it . and yes i do realize that all this stuff really narrows job my job options ...but im ok with that :) if anyone has any ideas what kind of job would suit me, i'd be happy to hear it thanks :) P.S.- the salary dosent matter, i just want to be happy n make a difference in the world :) more

Resolved Question: Does anyone know of any pet friendly places to vacation in Ohio?

Does anyone know of a place in ohio to take two dogs on vacation. A private place or cabin is what I'm really looking for. Preferably with a pool and fun things to do (outdoor stuff would be nice) with two adults and two kids (11 and 16). Our dogs are real good in the car but we really want to vacation with them so, if we could find a place around here to spend a couple days, that'd be amazing. One of them is quite large, about 70 pounds and the other is a hyper puppy. Does anyone know of any cabins or private homes around here that would be good for a little vacation? Thanks. more

Resolved Question: Rescue dog(Shepherd/Terrier mix)?

So the local pet store was having an adoption event. We might getting him if everything goes well with adoption and is safe with our cat. He's dog friendly and human friendly. Meet Desmond, Dez for short. At 30 pounds he is the perfect size for any home and a disposition that would fit any lifestyle. Dez came from a rural shelter in Kentucky where he was surrendered by a family that could no longer take care of him. They kept him in a crate all of the time. You'd think he would hold that against people, but really he is just the opposite. He could not be more appreciative to be in a home where he can feel the love. Desmond has two human foster sisters (ages 9 and 11) who spoil him rotten. He loves to cuddle with them and get his belly rubbed. Desmond knows basic commands like sit, down and paw and is very eager to learn more. He occasionally goes to Camp Bow Wow in Waukesha and LOVES to play with the other dogs. Dez would love a home where he can exercise, play and get plenty of attention. If you can offer Desmond a loving "forever" home please inquire about him. He is worth it! His adoption fee is $210 which includes WI sales tax. Desmond is neutered, current on vaccinations, heartworm negative and microchipped. I've Already have the list of supplies he'll need. is there anymore supplies we will need? 1.) Bed 2.) Crate 3.)Clicker 4.)Raw diet/Orjien 5.)Kong/Nylabone 6.)Food/ Water bowl 7.) Brush 8.). Dog shampoo(Any recommend a Safe natural shampoo) 9.) Nail clippers 10.)Collar 11.) Leash 12.)Toys 13.) Treats 14.)Life jacket( we've got a cabin up north with lake and boat) http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/18575371 I've thought of entering him in some agility class and obedience class.( he's over a year so it's fine) We will NOT be taking him to the dog park. I'll be using positive reinforcement and clicker training. He'll be getting two to three walks a day for 30 minutes or more and I'll taking him to the local park which nature walks a big pond and I'll be meeting up with my friend and her dog. At night he'll sleep in the kicten in his crate and will be let out for a few hours until my mom is any from between 7:00 am to 4:00 pm. My dad works from home, but once every month he'll go out of town for two-three days. Resolved Question: Cabins in North Georgia?

My father is turning 70 in June, and my sister and I would like to take him and my mother up to a cabin in northern GA for a little family getaway. My dad is a big fan of fishing, so a place on a lake is essential. Also, we have a 65 lb golden retriever who loves to romp around outdoors. Resolved Question: Planning a week end getaway and could use some help...?

I am proposing to my girlfriend in a month and I am trying to find the perfect weekend getaway. I have really been gravitating towards renting a cabin but the tricky part is we have 2 dogs that have to come with us which limits my choices. I found a few pet friendly rentals in Forks, Mt. Baker, and Mt. Rainier however the cheapest one was $550 for 2 nights. Does anyone out there have some cheaper suggestions for someone that just spent their savings on a ring? To narrow it down I would like it to be private with a view but with access to shops, groceries, etc. Mileage in no obstacle when it comes to the woman I love I am just focused on cost. Resolved Question: Pet Friendly Airlines?

Hello, I just want to get some opinions of anyone who has flown a pet cargo. I have used Continental in the past, and have been pleased with their service. But in this case, using Continental would be bit of an incovenience because they dont fly directly into the city i will be in, i would have to drive about 2 hours to pick my dog up. I was just wondering if anyone else had any experience with other airlines they'd like to share. BTW some of the things i liked about continental is that they have a special Petsafe program, and everyone that i interacted with from making the reservation via phone, dropping him off at the terminal, and picking him up, were all extemely freindly and comforting with my concerns. Also, Contineltal had a special compartment in Cargo for the animals that was temperate and pressurized just like the main cabin. And i guess my main thing is that my baby arrived safe and happy, sooo.. Any experiemce is welcome, good or bad! more

Resolved Question: What are some pet-friendly places to stay/things to do in Colorado?

I want to take a road trip in a couple of weeks with my two big dogs; and am wondering about pet-friendly accommodations, etc. I am a bit citified, so nothing TOO rugged. Camping is likely not an option, but I don't mind exploring the great outdoors. I would just like some sort of cabin/hotel to go to at night. Light hiking would be fine, but one of my pooches is a bit elderly, and can't handle great distances any more. Dog friendly river/lake locations would be welcome--I know not everyone wants to be accosted by dogs on their vacations. Not set on any specific location, so any suggestions would be GREAT. I'm interested in Colorado, but not dead-set on it, if something in another state might be better. . . . I have 4-5 days to spend, and am not too concerned about costs, but I do not have an exorbitant budget. My dogs are 85 pounds and 55 pounds--in case that makes a difference regarding your answers. Thanks more

Resolved Question: Pet Friendly Cabins (Ky)?

Resolved Question: Worried about leaving my dogs while...?

My husband and I are going on vacation in June. We will be leaving on Saturday and coming back on Wednesday. The only problem is, we can't take our 3 dogs with us. The cabin isn't pet friendly. So we're leaving them with my parents. I trust them to keep them, but my 7 year old little brother is kind of rough with them. He always does something to hurt them. We have a 4 1/2 lbs chihuahua, a 6 lbs papillon, and a 15 lbs dachshund mix. But anyways, my parents have 3 dogs too. All above 12 lbs. I guess I'm just worried, because I have my dogs on a special diet. They sleep in our bed with us. And they're not left home alone longer than 3 or 4 hours at a time. My parents don't really care what they feed they're dogs. 2 of them are outside dogs, and 1 is inside. The one that's inside sleeps in a crate. And my parents will be gone for about 9 - 10 hours working. We don't have any GOOD boarding kennels where I live. The only ones we have are small, dirty, and they leave the animals in a wire cage most of the time. She's kept them before, but she only had the two outside dogs then, and I only had my chihuahua and dachshund mix. And my chihuahua and her schnauzer always fight when we go visit them, because her schnauzer plays to rough. My husband thinks I'm worrying about nothing, but they're my babies, and I don't want something to happen to them... Especially since she leaves them outside for hours at a time without checking on them. Am I worrying for nothing? I mean I trust my mom to take care of them, but I don't trust my moms dogs, my little brother, or my mom to keep my rules that he's not to play with them and no table food. What do you think? I'm worrying over nothing...?Sorry it's so long...and my chihuahua just got over having a pinched nerve. Our papillon pounced on her about a month ago... and pinched a nerve more

Resolved Question: We are going on a vacation and want to take the dogs...?

WE are planning on going on a weekend trip this spring (probably Easter weekend) we are thinking of Going to Gatlinberg (we hear it is pretty pet friendly) and we have had to go out of town a lot lately (not by choice) and the pups had to stay with relatives so we want to take a trip with the dogs. Resolved Question: Does anyone go on vacation with their dog(s)?

I have seen a lot of people traveling the nearby interstate with their pooches. We would like to take vacation up in the mountains and are curious as to what do people do with their dogs once they get to their destination. I've found lots of listings for pet-friendly lodges, etc., but not a lot of pet friendly facilities in the area. I would appreciate tips from those who travel with their animals. Do you leave them in the cabin/motel by themselves? Do you find a temp kennel for those times when you can't take them with you (i.e. out to eat, an attraction, etc). If we go to a campground, that won't be an issued. Any special traveling supplies needed? Any tips or experiences are appreciated. Thank you more

Resolved Question: Flying with my dog in cargo on Frontier airlines?

I am traveling from california to michigan via airplane with my dog. He is going to be going in the cargo hold because his legs are a little too lanky to be in the cabin. I took him to the vet and got a health certificate and all that good stuff. I am flying with Frontier, who so far seem to be very accommodating and friendly. Has anyone flown with a pet with this company before? Can anyone tell me what to expect? Where do I pick him up once I have reached the final destination? It is necessary to take him with me because I will be gone for well over a month and my husband is in the military. I would rather have him travel with me then board him with some stranger for over a month. more

Resolved Question: Question to Vermonters?

I am looking for cabin rentals in St. Johnsbury that are dog friendly (2 dogs) during the last week of July. I know there are some near Joe's Pond. I have family in St. Johnsbury so I don't want to go anywhere that is too far from them. Also, what is the weather like this time of year? Any information on things to do would be greatly appreciated. more

Resolved Question: Vacation? Where?

I want to vacation next summer and I would possibly like to rent a cabin someplace quiet. Nothing to over the top-relaxation is key. However, it needs to be kid friendly and pet friendly. Anyone recommend any place or know really good places for me to look? Dog section because dog owners should know about where dogs can be!Well if my mom goes she hates camping. But otherwise it will just be me, a 3 year old, and a couple of dogs. I wouldn't feel safe. (I am only 19) more
