Open Question: Why is my friend losing her hair?
My friend started losing her hair in November 2008. This wasn't bald patches, but general hairloss all over. She had been Lansoprazole 30mg tablets for about 2 years with no problems. She stopped using them for 11 months, in case the problem with her hair resulted from the tablets, but her hair continued to fall out throughout these months. In October 2009, she began to use the tablets again. 3 weeks later, her hair ceased falling out for 6 months, but now, has again started to fall out again in the last 3 months (May 2010). Could the tablets have anything to do with this, as it is a rare side effect of them? Also, she saw a doctor in February 2009. She was told that she suffers from chronic telogen effluvium related to nutritional problems and low iron. After taking iron supplements, her iron levels have become better. Her ferritin is now 50 mg, a rise from 21. Could the hair loss still be related to iron deficiency, despite being higher? An answer to both of these questions would be useful. moreOpen Question: Anyone help me with Itchiness caused by a certain colesterol medicine?
I have been prescribed four different medicines after my angina operation, one of them is "SIMVASTATIN" and on the leaflet it says it can cause itchiness as one of the side effects. My itchiness is so severe i scratch myself with a thick bristle brush just to releive the itchiness ,has anyone been on this or any other medication that has caused severe itchiness? moreOpen Question: Risperdol Help PLEASE ANSWER!?

I am 5 foot 7 and 15 years old, so about average height for my age.And there is nothing wrong with me medically and no growth problems. However, for sport I really want to get to 6 foot 2 or around about. I live in England. So I was wondering if the doctor would prescribe/sell me some even though I have no growth problems Thanks in advance PS Don't give me lectures on the side effects I just want answers to the question. moreOpen Question: Is there any side effects to Herbal anti depressants?

I didn't want to take them any more.I couldn't stand the side effects. The listlessness, the lack of emotion, the sleepiness, the fact if i took them at certain times i'd be like a zombie. I've come off them properly, and now all i seem to do is cry. I cry at everything, sad films, sad songs, when i have a little petty argument with my boyfriend, and i keep thinking of all the bad times that led me to come on these tablets. But i don't want to go back on them. I don't want to go back to the way i was. Can anyone offer me any hope? Any assurances that this will pass? moreResolved Question: why have the once noble-intentioned members of the LEFT become moral cowards, & thrown in their lot with....?
apologists for and protectors of : islamists, terrorists [hamas hezbollah etc] homicide-bombers, people who stone women, judeophobes & zionophobes. when there is a camp for freedom of expression [including the right to say things other people may not like]...why is the Left now in the opposite camp, yelling in unison with its new-found islamist buddies, when they attempt to shout down and silence debate, by deploying that dogshit word..."islamophobe"? [i hope you realised that my use of the words judaeophobe & zionophobe was partly ironic!] is it that the cultural & moral relativism, multiculturalism and political correctness -which in small doses is quite beneficial, has reached such a massive overdose level amongst the left, that its harmful & toxic side-effect is addling their wits and judgement to such an extent, that they can no longer clearly perceive whats right & wrong?why are they making excuses for actions that at any other time point in the past, they would have unequivocally condemned, no matter who the perpetrator was? why do they now seem to have to check first, whether the person/s in question, are on a list of "those who worthy of being defended "? arent some acts simply wrong irrespective of the cause or affiliations? moreResolved Question: Is it ok to just use condoms?
I went to a religious school where contraception wasn't really talked about because it went against the school ethos so please help! I'd like to know what types of contraception you use and if it's effective (if you don't mind sharing). I really don't want to take any pill or patch that alters my hormones as female friends and relatives who've taken such implements have ended up with fibroids, polycystic ovaries, endometriosis etc. These conditions may not be side effects of using this method BUT it seems a little bit coincidental to me. Although the government say it's safe for use they once said the same thing about smoking so I think i'm right to be cautious. Anyway what I'm really trying to say is whether simply using condoms is effective. I'd just be scared of them splitting... moreResolved Question: Why are people scared of vaccinations so much?
I'm 15 and I think that vaccinations don't hurt at all, it's about 0.1/10 in my hurt scale, side effects of the most painful I had (Tetanus-diphtheria) is about 1/10 in my scale, and blood tests are about 2/10 in my scale. Why are people scared of vaccinations like they would kill them? Why do people think they are painful if they're not? Is it true that mental attitude can make you don't feel anything or make you scream in the pain? I know it's a stupid question but I'm bored :D moreOpen Question: can anyone help me change this to an easy paragraph that it would be able to read easily and understand thank?
A great commotion has been caused by NHS’ anti-smoking advert when seven HUNDRED complaints were received by Of com, from the general public. Their Their main reason for their rejection of this so called “controversial advert” is the effect of the gruesome images used to provoke the viewers, in which the advert presumes smokers to be animals, that haunt their minds until any desire for cigarettes are permanently removed from their minds. Although the advert is very provocative it’s extremely adamant that people should quit smoking, since NHS would not come up with this ad just to offend people with strong images. However everyone’s biased reasons do not change the fact that there would be consequences in the future. Although the advert is very gruesome, if you focus on what the advert denotes rather than what it connotes, you would understand that there is a more successful side to it. moreOpen Question: I have bled from my vagina for weeks now, what is wrong with me?
I have noticed dark bleeding from my vagina after sex for about a year now, however, it also happens after yoga and even occasionally when i havent had sex, i dont think it is period related as I have now been bleeding on and off for about 8 weeks, the condition only appears to be getting worse. The bleeding typically lasts for 2-4 days at about the same volume as a regular period but far darker, but can differ. In addition, i am getting strong stomach cramps more and more frequently, sometimes several a day, it feels like I am bloated but really badly. I occasionally feel sick after eating, not with any particular food, it doesnt seem to have a pattern, this seems completely random. I do feel it is related though as the sickness only occurs when I am bleeding. I am on the pill (cerezette) and have been for about 7 weeks, only once missing a tablet, and will typically take it at exactly the same time daily, I have not taken any breaks since starting as was instructed not to. Bleeding seems to have become more servere since taking this pill. I have not had sex for at least 4 weeks, and have since taken a pregnancy test which was negative. In addition I had an abortion over a year ago, other than a reduced libido i havent felt any major side effects of this, i waited a fair while before having sex again. However, my boyfriend has said that I bleed very slightly every time we have sex. We always use condoms in addition to the pill, some feel more uncomfortable than others, but I do not feel any pain during sex. I am stuck for what to do, as I have made several visits to the doctor on this who say it is simply related to the pill. Having only being taking the pill for 7 weeks i find this unlikely, as symptoms have lasted longer than that, sickness and cramping possibly for up to 2 years (maybe more, but i cannot remember). I am really worried about this as no doctor seems to be able to help with the issue, but it is clearly getting worse and affecting me daily. I do worry frequently that I am pregnant, but since the abortion I have not had frequent sex, and have always been exceptionally careful with contraception, in addition to taking numerous pregnancy tests. Any help, or a point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. moreOpen Question: How bad is the anti-malarial Lariam really?
I'm going to South & Central America backpacking for 6 months and am considering my options for anti-malarials. Malarone sounds great but it's far too expensive at over £400 for the 6 months and Lariam (only £60) has what sounds like a high percentage of people having quite disturbing side effects. Is it just that people love to write about stuff when it bad and never when it's good or is it really that bad? Plesae help me decide and give me your stories...good and bad.I have asked at the doctors and they tell me to go to the pharmacy and they can advise. Hi girls, can someone help me. Ok so im on the pill for a few years now. It's the 21 day pack called logynon. I take the pill at the exact time and i never miss a pill. Im just wondering why is it that when i first started id take the pill for 21 days take a 7 day break and id get my period on a wednesday, ok thats fine, then time went by and i started to get my period on a thursday like early hours of thursday morning. It's been like that ever since again thats fine, but now for the last 3 months i don't actually get my period until late thursday afternoon or sometimes evening/nightime. I dont have any side effect and it's helped me becoz i suffered alot with my period when i was younger, i dont much now, only the odd time with some period pain. Why am i getting my period later? Im not in a relationship, im not pregnant, i do have a touch of polycystic ovaries. Could this be the reason why my period is coming later or something else. Do i need to change my pill to another one. I dont want my period to get later and i get my period on a friday or saturday and then back on the pill monday. Everything has been fine, why only in the last 3 months is this happening. I know at first your body need to get use to the pill but ive been on it a few years so im well use to it by now. Any ideas? Thanks moreOpen Question: Does anyone have experience of the side effects of Implanon?
I recently had a contraceptive implant, Implanon, fitted. 20 or so days later my hair is falling out in handfuls, my feet are swollen, I feel sick, have massive mood swings and feel either boiling hot or freezing cold at any given moment. My skin itches unbearably. This all started a week or so after the implant was fitted. By coincidence at the same time my kids have been waking up a lot at night and I'm really tired and run down. Could my syptoms be the implant? The exhaustion? A combination? Does anyone have any experience with side effects from the implant, or from exhaustion, so I can get an idea of what is going on? I have been to the doctor and he said give it another month to see if it settles down, but I feel so awful, I want it removed if it is what's causing my problems. moreOpen Question: Should i get the HPV jab considering my other condition?
I am being offered the HPV jab at school but i don't know whether to get it. In the past i have had side effects from allergy medicine pescribed from the doctor for hayfever (i know this sounds kind of stupid but would this make me more at risk of side effects?) but my main worry is a problem i have with my bladder. I have problems that are being investigated, they think i may have an irritation in my bladder so i am having an operation where they use a tube to look at my bladdder. Could this cause a problem with the jab? Should i get the jab? Thanks! moreOpen Question: are people aware the "complications" of prostate cancer treatment are the same as pregnancy?
(people like Rowdy btw. Quoted below) " The complication rate of successful prostate cancer treatments (there are multiple treatment courses), which includes sterility (100%), inability to ever have an orgasm (100%), incontinence, impotence, loss of bowel control and, sometimes, removal of the testicles, is substantially worse than the complications of successful breast cancer treatments." Um.. not only are the complications the same as that of pregnanc/childbirth (pregnancy has worse, including things like developing diabetes...LOL? ..not so lol..) Anyway as I was saying.. women don't just share the complication risks of prostate surgery through pregnancy but it's also similar to the complications of the birth control IUD (for those who don't know it's basically metal inserted inside the woman, through the cervix into the uterus). Yes bowel and bladder perforation. Infection. Sterility. Death. Not only that, it has side effects when it is put in CORRECTLY and stays in place. Episiotomy?? Every woman has to go through childbirth. Those who GO OUT OF THEIR WAY to avoid it will most likely still end up needing an abortion (with also shares some of the same wonderful side effects..) BEFORE YOU SAY IT (women don't need to get pregnant...) those who DO NOT end up pregnant or having abortions will obviously need to be on birth control. My point? Side effects which include blood clots, heart attacks, strokes, migraines, you know DEATH etc. So basically just being a woman means you have to deal with this anyway at some point in your life. And most women WILL have to face it directly because most DO end up pregnant however most men DO NOT have to go through prostate cancer at some point. Not saying all people who give birth will end up fecally incontinent.. certianly not.. (but then not all men who have prostate cancer treatment will end up fecally incontinent). Just making a comparison. What do you think ?? Do you see?? AND before you mention it... they lose or are at risk of similar stuff through cervical cancer (it's just coincidence where the breasts are for this comparison of "which gender has the worst gender-cancer..") They are however... NOT at risk of losing their balls. In fact I think they may even gain some!?erm no. lol It's also fun to note that statistics say it's hard for women to even HAVE orgasms, let alone lose the ability to have them. I'm just making these comparisons to see how it goes down. I am not making any sort of point over BC, abortions etc. Just that pretty much ALL women will face these risks, not women who get a certain type of canceryeah but my point then would be pregnancy is something a woman has like zero control over. If you are born a (fertile) woman, then you WILL either end up pregnant, having an abortion, on hormonal birth control, getting and IUD or being abstinant forever. Unless you are the lucky one who can use either NFP or solely condoms and never have one break and never have to use Plan B. ;-) Also prostate cancer is not a given. It only happens to SOME men.yes I am. Are you not aware of what I'm trying to do here? I'm just comparing the side effects of a treatment that someone was complaining about, to something all women need to go through.if it's male cancer vs women cancer then women cancers "win" being the worst because they have various types of female cancer. One being the breasts, the other being cervical, then of course the ovaries and blah blah all the little things like clitoral , vulva etc. And what I'm saying is if you add on top of this, the fact that they have the whole childbirth thing too. Then if you are saying "woe is who" and one gender "has it worse" then it has to be males. Using the guy's own logic when he tried to prove a point about how much it sucked to be a man and have male cancer.or not ??OOPS LOL!! "Then if you are saying "woe is who" and one gender "has it worse" then it has to be FEmales." I meant to sayblue eyed this is not an abortion argument. You are wrong, and I'm not wasting my time explaining in deail why. For one thing, it doesn't MATTER if you believe in abortion. I said if women have sex then they are almost 100% guaranteed to get pregnant one day and if they do not wish to ever get pregnant they WILL , REGARDLESS of their wishes, NEED an abortion. If they don't believe in it, then they will have to give birth. MY POINT IS THEN PROVEN. Sorry. Try addressing the actual comparison I made instead of rambling your usual nonsense.it's no more of a pity party than the part I quoted, why can't you see my point? Try reading. If every woman who did not want to get pregnant or have an abortion abstained there would be like 20% of society having sex and probably an 80% rise in rapes. Obviously. The entire population of women could not just choose to not have sex. Have you also heard of rape? Do you think rape should be an exception? I don't. If it's murder it's still murder. (I am pro choice btw)DOES anyone agree that the complications are the same or very similar, or do you not ? Answer my question pleasethe word "AND..." the degree of the split. what happened to the other answers? moreResolved Question: Diclofenac is leaving me drowsy/giddy, how does that work out?
I've been prescribed this in the past, and it's had the same affect one me. I was given some diclofenac again for my chest pains today by the doctor, I've taken one and it's left me feeling incredibly sleepy, then quite giddy, then drowsy again. Lost my virginity a few weeks back,, we've only been using condoms but I don't feel v safe using just them and neither does my boyfriend so, I'm going to look into the pill or the patch because they are the less permanent ones - I'm a little afraid of things like the rod and the injection. All of it feels completely unnatural to me so I'm a little scared to try them, especially with the random side effects I've heard about - can anyone advise me on what would be best out of these? moreResolved Question: Orange colour on tissue after having a pee.?
This morning I went for a pee and when I wiped it was like an orange/peachy colour on the tissue, but my pee itself was just the normal green/yellow colour. Hey, so i went on cilest 6 years ago when i was 14 to control my acne. Being on the pill made my skin amazing, but when i began using the pill as a contraceptive it just wasnt for me- lot of illness led to me taking drugs that made the pill inaffective, i didn't like that it was inaffective if i comited etc... So i made the choice to use a more reliable contraceptive- the implant called implanon. The doctor mentioned that if my periods were troublesome and irregular (a likely side effect on implanon)- i could talk to a doctor about taking cilest AS WELL AS having the implanon implant. My periods however are fine. But my skin has erupted again like when i was 14. It's really causing me lack of confidence and getting me down, the spots are painful and are not just facial but on my chest and back area. This is just like when i was 14. Will a doctor give me cilest -the pill to control my acne? Is it safe? moreOpen Question: being on the contraceptive pill and taking other drugs? help..?

I think the cancer storyline about Steph has been handled poorly which is a shame as it could have been a real eye opener and educated some people. Its very sad and well acted but sheems too rushed. Steph has a hysterectomy, but no mention of any chemo or radiotherapy at theis point despite her cancer being very serious. About a week after the op she was dancing on tables drunk! Then suddenly she needs chemo, but there has been no mention of sickness, hair loss etc. She doesn't even look ill! Now after about 3 weekw of chemo with no side effects she is dying. I like Steph and i think Carlet Stenson is playing the part well, but overall the storyline just doesn't seem at all realistic. moreResolved Question: Double-period?? Please read!?
So not last Thursday, but the Thursday before (19th August), I started my period. I have a contraceptive implant, which means my periods tend to be irregular these days, and only occur once every 2 months. Thing is, that period kind of ended on Saturday. That was a really long period as it was, but all of a sudden, I started bleeding really heavily again last night. I kind of know this isn't really normal, especially since I've been getting periods for the past 9 years. Could this just be a side-effect of my implant? Or (and I know this is a bit crazy) could I have been pregnant, then miscarried, and this period I'm on is an actual period? Hi, This is a hard question for me to ask, as it's not about me, but the closest person to me... my mum. Firstly, my mum has suffered with sciatica for years (well, I am not 100% sure if she still has pain from it, I am just assuming she does) and about 10+ years ago the doctor prescribed her quite strong painkillers for it, I think they were co codamol 500mg. I remember her taking one or two every few hours, daily for years. I don't think she has the same tablets anymore, but I do know she still takes painkillers daily (the ones you swallow, not the dissolvable type like co codamol) that you can buy from a regular Supermarket over the counter. Now, I have no idea whether she really is still in pain and that's why she is still taking the painkillers, because to be honest she never looks/sounds like she is in pain (like I used to be able to see/notice), or if it's because she is just addicted. But anyway, the main reason I am asking on here is to see whether taking painkillers daily for a number of years can lead to stomach problems? I'm asking that because I have noticed for a few years now (but it's got alot worse lately) that my mum gives off a not so nice smell through her nose pretty much 24/7. So when she's breathing I can smell it. I REALLY hate asking this as I feel terrible talking about her like this and I am not sure how on earth I would ever bring it up to her without upsetting her. The last thing I want to do is upset her. But at the same time I am really worried that there might be something wrong, that I can only tell her about as she is obviously not aware of the smell. The thing is, the smell from her breath/nose is really not nice and at times I have to try not to gag when she comes near and I feel absolutely awful about it, I end up walking away pretending I have to do something. If she cuddles me, I pull away quicker than normal because of it. Also, when she comes near me I find myself holding my breath so I don't gag - yeah, that may sound bad but I have a really bad gag reflex and can you imagine how she'd feel if I gagged because of her. Her bedroom in the morning absolutely reaks of it and I have to close her bedroom door to stop myself from reaching when I walk past. Please remember I am NOT being nasty about my mum, I lover her and care for her very much and all this is starting to worry me. Is this a side effect of the painkillers possibly? Do I tell her? If so, how!? :-(Maybe I should add, the smell isn't like typical bad breath (like when someone has poor oral hygiene), it's just a strange smell and it's coming from her nose, not really her mouth. So she can be sitting next to me not talking or have her mouth open and I can smell it when she breathes. As to the paink killers, I have talked to her about it many times, mentioning the possibe damage she could be causing, she just agrees but never does anything about it. She's been doing it TOO long and I just think no matter what I'd say she wont stop. I was just worrying that the painkillers might have caused a stomach problem which might be why she has a funny smell coming from her nose. Also, she is quite sneaky... maybe because deep down she know she shouldn't really keep taking the painkillers. But, she will get up earlier than me to take them, or go into the bathroom with a cup to take them. You might wonder how I know for sure this is what she's doing, well I have been a bit naughty and counted how many she has left in a pack and after she comes out of the bathroom one or two are missing etc. Thanks guys. Her doctor is no longer prescribing her pain medication (I don't know the reason for that), but like I said, she just buys them at a store instead now. I just remembered what the smell reminds me of, it's kind of like the Acrylic liquid they use to apply acrylic nails. I think it's called Monomer liquid? anyway, it's very similar to what that liquid smells like. moreVoting Question: Would it be okay if...?

I have a 4 month old male Netherlands dwarf rabbit who was given cylap injection on friday and he has been really docile and sleepy and heavy on his feet. He is usually lively, binking and being generally naughty. He is still eating and drinking and pooing but I am so worried because I have researched the side effects to Cylap and starting to get upset hoping he will not have these problems. I just wondered if anyone has any advice or if they have experienced a 'quiet' rabbit after the vaccinations. Thanks moreResolved Question: Recovering from depression... intense anger outbursts?
Late last year, I was signed off from work due to depression and severe anxiety issues. I saw some people, I got put on meds - mirtazapine and quetiapine, to be precise. They're working well enough I suppose - my mood is much lighter, but the anxiety is still kinda there, though nowhere near as bad. I've been back in work for three months now, and everything seems to be going great, except sometimes I get into this terrible rage where I'll scream and throw things, and throw threats and abuse around. I'll think of harming either myself or someone else, and it's truly terrifying. I'm normally quite mild mannered and couldn't hurt a fly, really, but sometimes I'm convinced I need to hurt myself or someone. I've no idea where this comes from. It feels like I'm not in control when this happens, and it's becoming more and more frequent, and it's never happened since before these meds started making me feel better. The anger gets more and more intense as time goes on, sometimes I think I'm going to lose it completely. Until this year, I've never felt the desire to really hurt someone before, it's so scary. I cope with it by making sure I'm alone, making sure I cry and get any emotion out that way. I guess my question is, has anyone else ever had this happen to them? Could it be the medication? Have you had any side effects from mirtazapine? I know it's not all roses on the road to recovery, and gracious me, I'd LOVE to get there finally! But it's so confusing, most of the time there's no reason for it. It's the bank holiday weekend now, so I'll make sure I get to my doctor on Tuesday. This evening really scared me :S If anyone has any serious advice, I'm happy to listen. Thanks for reading. moreResolved Question: USN - Muscle Fuel Anabolic, is it safe?

He's about 12 weeks old and had his second lot of jabs on monday 23rd august. He was grumpy for a day or so but then he seemed to be okay, back to his normal very wild and playful self. Now today (friday) he's been sleeping ALL day. Like literally he slept for 3 hours which is longer than usual, got up to eat, then went back to sleep again, woke up to eat, then went back to sleep. He did play for about half an hour with my older cats but he's now back to being tired which is unusual for him. Also, he seems to be more hungry than usual as normally he eats half his food then comes back for now, but today he's just gobbled it all down in one go and wanted more. Is this just a funny day? Or is it side effects from his injection? Or something else?*comes back for more later, moreResolved Question: Thigh tattoos anybody?
