Open Question: How to restore my laptop?

Okay, my laptops nearly 3 years old, and it's getting a bit slow and crashing sometimes. So I have decided that instead of buying a new one, I would try and get as much life out of it as possible by restoring it to the factory settings. A few questions, will this help at all with speeding up my computer? And, I have used all three licenses for MSOFFICE, if I restore will I be able to use office? BUT, here's the bigger problem, when I first got my laptop it was running WINDOWS VISTA HOME PREMIUM, (this is when I made my recovery disks), however I have since upgraded to WINDOWS 7 HOME PREMIUM. So I have no recovery disks since the ones I made for vista. However, what I do still have is the windows 7 upgrade disks that microsoft/acer gave to me (basically, i bought a vista laptop within 6 months of windows 7 being released so I was given the upgrade for free) so can I still use this to put my computer back to windows 7, or do I not need to revisit the horrors of windows vista at all? thanks for the help. more

Voting Question: My Task Manager has stopped working on my Windows 7 PC. How can I fix it?

When ever I open my task manager from the taskbar or from the Ctrl Alt Del Menu, it starts saying it has stopped working and asks me to debug the problem. I want to get the sims 3 but I'm a bit paranoid that it will slow it down my laptop or affect it badly in any way even though my laptop is just a few months old. It's a HP Pavilion dm4, it has Windows 7 64-bit operating system. Here is the system requirements of the sims 3. Voting Question: Windows XP stuck in reboot loop, on two computers. Can only start in safe mode, why? Solution?

I'm guessing I got a virus, my computer restarted and now it keeps restarting, can only be started in safe mode, cant even run safe mode with networking. Error message starts STOP: 0x0000007e which I have read was a possible hardware error. I used microsoft safety software, it found some viruses and removed them (I looked them all up and none of them apparently cause this issue but some had little description) but still the same. I have tried lists of different ideas (can't remember half of them) on the net as this happened about a week ago now. To top it off, my brother gave me his old desktop that also runs on XP and I began using this. I've been a bit obsessed to figure out what was wrong with my own, so I took his hard drive and tried to boot his windows on my computer, it failed and I thought I now knew it was possibly my motherboard or my ram ect. So I put his computer back together and began updating likes of chrome and I also installed firefox. I left it installing, returned and found it had crashed.. It now does the exact same thing, can only be booted in safe mode. I done very few things on this computer but I use usb network adapters which I had to install. It's a Belkin but I couldn't get the utility working so I used a O2 pay as go usb that installs a program I know works, it runs in a program called tsuci or something?? It's a pay as go but I can use it with other adapters to simply connect to my wifi. I've used this program for ages on my own computer but was disallowed to uninstall it when this happened to my brothers computer, this made me suspicious. Oh yeah and I can't use system restore, tells me I'm not allowed in safe mode, I tried to do it in BIOS or whatever it is but it didn't recognize the command. So I used a microsoft program for serious malware/viruses on my brothers computer and it found nothing.. What is the common denominator here? Can things like my monitor be causing it? usb mouse or keyboard? A dodgy power lead damaging the power supply and thus the motherboard? Speakers? Or is it a virus that I have managed to transfer to both systems? What virus could I be looking at? I know people will say reformat or use repair but its an old computer, I've no idea where the disk is, my brother said he might have one, so yes I might do this but I'm curious as to what caused it. ive been a member of xbox live since it started. im a huge fan but i have an issue which needs to be sorted regarding the net passport. I basicaly need to reset my password but setting up the email 6 years ago i do no remember the security question and i seem to fail security even though everything i enter is correct, even the card details. The net passport help and support only exists as a forum and all that happens on there is an endless loop of useless instructions and then told i need to create a new acount which i dont think is acceptable as im paying for the yearly subscription and i will lose all dlc every purchased which is not fair imo. Xbox customer support say the issue lies with windows live and that only they can help me, but windows live refuse to acknowledge the problem and im told my only option is to create a new gamertag, pay for a new subscription and if i want to dlc to buy it again. Hi I'm Chris. just want to ask something that's bugging me. When I first set up windows 7 I did a Dynamic mirror over two hard drive's including boot system reserved. Well it been running approx about a year now until today I had to do a system restore by booting up other windows 7 prefix of the other hard driver. after I removed mirror and deleted the bad partitions I made a new mirror with the good copy running after it finished syncing i reboot my pc to reboot back to the old hard drive with windows 7 . Now this is the confusing part.. they both come up saying windows 7 prefix. how do I edit one so I know the one I want is on C: (my main os). Could anyone help? more

My laptop has been effected by a virus which is blocking EVERYTHING on it. I use mozilla as a browser and I have microsoft security essentials as my sercurity. I was using google images and one of the sites from the images made my security essentials go crazy and it came up with a message saying it detected 3 threats and as soon as that popped up my laptop was taken over by a full screen msg using internet explorer -.- displaying my IP adress and a whole bunch of other msgs in greek (cuz I live there) saying I have to pay 100 euro in 2 different ways, which I have never even seen or heard of called Paysafe and Ukash. It claims to be from the greek economic crime department or something, but I'm pretty sure its fake and a virus because it appeard right after my security msg said it had detected 3 threats. It has disabled my security protection and it will not turn back on from what I have been able to gather. It wont display anything, wont let me open anything, not even task manager. I restarted it to see if it would do the same and it apears with the same image over the whole screen as soon as I log on to my user. My laptop is a sony vaio, with windows 7 incase that helps. Resolved Question: My Documents aren't printing correctly in Word 2010?

I recently upgraded to Office 2010 yesterday, and cannot print documents correctly from Word, when my document comes out of the printer, it has 'scaled' my document down by about 70%, For example, if I open a fresh new word document, and make a square that covers the whole A4 page, it appears at it does in the document on print preview (as it should be) but when it comes out of the printer, it has gotten smaller, and dosent cover the whole page, This does not AFFECT ANY OTHER APPLICATION, OR ANY OTHER OFFICE APPLICATION LIKE POWERPOINT OR OUTLOOK. I have checked all of my print settings in word and everything is set as usual (or so i can tell - A4, Portrait Orientation)... As ive said, Print preview shows that everything should be fine. But when it comes out of the printer, it has been scaled down, by about 50% or so, And i can't figure out why? I have already tried to reset Word's settings (by using a Microsoft FixIt found on a KB) and then Word was set back to how it was when i first installed office 2010... I really cannot find out whats going on, Word worked find in Office 2007, and so did printing, this is the FIRST time I have printed from Word 2010. So I cannot figure out whats going wrong. There is nothing wrong with the printer though, as every other application can print correctly. Voting Question: Display driver amdkmdap stopped responding and has successfully recovered.?

i get this error when in Battlefield 3. I only get this message when i play that game online. on single player its fine after 10 min test.. 30 secs into a online game (constantly) and it does it and crashes the game. i have tried Battlefield bad company 2 and its fine online. Please note i have switchable graphics in this laptop. a Intel 3000HD on a I7 2630QM and a Radeon 6490M 1GB GDDR5. HP Notebook. I have tried reinstalling the HP drivers but they dont work. it comes up with "Failed to load detection driver" during the AMD installer when it detects your card. EVERY time, i have tried in safe mode, tried uninstalling them and using driver sweeper, doesn't work. still comes up with same error. i have installed the drivers through the device manager by directing it to the folder with the drivers. and it works fine, no error in game, however this means i can no longer use my switchable graphics for power saving, and after 2 restarts the 6490M disappears completely from the device manager and it gets stuck using the Intel 3000 HD until i do a system restore to before the whole thing, so back to the 30 second in game crashing. please help me with this, i have tried reinstalling the Microsoft C++2010 distributable. At the same time as the error in event viewer there is also this. A request to disable the Desktop Window Manager was made by process (4). so i have no idea what to do.@snitch , windows update does not work, it will install the drivers but not for both cards and wont install the catalyst control centre for switching between cards, and also the card dissapears in device manager after a few restards, also the hp drivers arnt buggy, as other drivers i have fail to install aswell, ones from AMD ( these are cracked to bypass the hp block on amd drivers) and these worked fine before. Need more suggestions people@millisa sorry it cant be that as its a laptop and has never been tweaked it was working fine and suddenly went funny, no voltages have been changed, this seems more like a windows problem as doing system restores makes the card reappear. Thanks tho. Voltages tend to only be a problem with desktop gpus as the power supplies and overclocking are much more prone to faults and commeness. more
